What we are looking for
We are looking for Software Engineers to contribute across our end-to-end platform. Our software engineers work across cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, agentic systems, data engineering, ML engineering and MLOps, simulation ecosystems, complex workflow orchestration, microservices mesh, application development and security. Our software engineers supercharge design and delivery of our product development activities while helping to build and lead an engineering capability that is the core of the company’s strategy and identity. In the near-term, you will work with other software engineers, data engineers, infrastructure engineers, ML engineers, data scientists, researchers and product managers to execute our ML- and AI-infused product development plan en route to growing our company. Have a specific interest in a particular part of our technical stack? No problem...we’re looking for technical leaders across our ecosystem.
In the medium-term, you will cultivate our software engineering function by nurturing a culture of experimentation and delivery. You will design, write and optimize software to support our end-to-end product development ambitions, helping to build the core of our competitive differentiation.
What you will do
- Lead the design, development, testing, delivery and support of software systems across our technical stack that drive our end-to-end product development ambitions.
- Agentic systems - build internal agents to automate and enhance company workflows. Build a stack for agents to enhance customer facing products.
- Cloud and distributed systems development - contribute to building and maintaining our cloud-native platform and infrastructure; K8s, cluster management, linux containers, etc.
- Data Platform and Engineering - our use cases are varied and so are our data engineering needs. From stream, batch, pub-sub, queuing, state stores, virtualization, complex data models and closed-loop pipelines, we’ve got a little bit of everything.
- ML Engineering and MLOps - we aim to infuse EVERY business process with ML and AI, relying on closed-loop decision-making at every valuable juncture.
- Simulation ecosystem - our ML- and AI-centric workflows need training and testing.
- Workflow orchestration - we live in the land of complex, autonomous, multi-step sequential workflows operating in a distributed runtime with low latency requirements.
- Service mesh - we rely heavily on reuse of core microservices to keep application development productivity high, which requires thoughtful service mesh management.
- Application development - we’ve just started designing and developing across our anchor product suites, each focused on leveraging a common platform and service core.
- DevSecOps - security is inherently embedded within our development and operations practices, and we leverage bespoke security techniques for some unique exposures.
- Assist in product development strategy, design, planning and productivity.
- Contribute your unique technical, user, and market knowledge to product strategy.
- Contribute to product and architectural design.
- Contribute to product roadmapping, resource planning and sprint management.
- Contribute to product development productivity improvements, including best practices, technical documentation, code reviews and automation / utility / abstraction packages.
- Serve as a member of our technical team across both engineering and research.
- Collaborate asynchronously with engineers, researchers and product managers across time zones to design, build and ship code.
- Contribute to technical strategy and planning across the company.
- Represent Equilibrium in external venues, including presenting work at conferences and contributing to open-source projects.
The minimum qualifications you’ll need
- Passion for clean energy and fighting climate change
- BS/Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Electrical Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
- Software development experience in Python, Typescript, Go, Julia, C, or Rust.
- 8 years of relevant work experience.
Nice to have additional skills
- PhD degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Electrical Engineering).
- 8 years of relevant work experience, including expert software engineering fundamentals and experience building software to support ML and AI pipelines, and associated data structures.
- Demonstrated expertise building agents and working with LLMs.
- Expertise in Python or Typescript. Experience with orchestration tools like Dagster.
- Experience with trading systems.
- Deep knowledge of electricity markets.
- Advanced proficiency across a range of data engineering tools (ELT, streaming, pub-sub, relational DBs, object DBs, GraphDBs, etc.).
- Deep expertise across any one of our tech stack domains: cloud infrastructure, data platform and engineering, IOT, MLOps and ML pipelines, simulation ecosystems, workflow orchestration, microservices orchestration, and/or application development.
- Familiarity supporting and releasing ML/AI models that drive operational workflows (e.g., models that run and produce new inferences every hour of the day).
- Proactive communicator who can translate product design specs into organized code.
- Experience communicating the results of analyses with product, engineering, and leadership teams to influence product and engineering strategy.
- Demonstrated proactivity and self-direction. Willingness to teach as well as learn.

We are looking for staff / sr staff quantitative scientists with a heavy focus on trading strategy research and development in the energy space to accelerate the maturation of our quantitative trading & platform-as-a-service businesses. You'll help to shape the science-driven products, tools, & processes that will drive the future success of our company and lead the energy transition.
As a key member of our sciences group, you will play an active role in a) cultivating our culture of experimentation, signal discovery, and incremental delivery, b) facilitating research into profitable strategy development and energy market dynamics, c) helping to identify, recruit, train, and mentor members of our growing team of exceptional trading analysts, and d) partnering with our clients, engineers, product managers, and scientists to influence the near to medium term product roadmap.
What you will do
Use research insights to shape product direction and deliver innovative client solutions: Influence product and engineering roadmaps through presentation of research insights, experimental results, and trading strategy backtest metrics, in order to evolve organizational direction and drive positive impact at EQ's clients. Initiate and lead cross-functional engagements to surface, prioritize, and structure advanced novel quantitative analytics or machine learning techniques that can drive outsized impact on company trading strategies and client solutions.
Trading performance analytics: Investigate driving factors in trading over/under performance, identifying learnings, and drive a fly-wheel of continuous strategy improvement and team education.
Research, develop, backtest, and deploy novel quantitative trading signals and strategies in the energy domain: Identify and extract sources of trading alpha by researching multiple energy datasets, surveying industry techniques & domain intuition, and executing hands-on experimental models & backtests. Drive the design, specification, development, and production deployment of our suite of novel quantitative trading solutions. Lead short to medium term research projects that advance the state-of-the-art in quantitative research techniques, as applied to energy asset management and financial trading.
The minimum qualifications you’ll need
- Passion for clean energy and fighting climate change
- An degree in computer science, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, operations research, engineering, or related quantitative discipline
- 2+ years experience in quantitative research & analytics or systematic financial trading, or similar role, in the US Power Markets
- 2+ years experience with python and the supporting computational science tool suite (e.g. numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit-learn, tensorflow, etc)
- Experience in the electricity and energy domain (e.g. wholesale market prices)
- Experience developing, releasing, and tracking performance of quantitative trading strategies in production
- Experience communicating mathematical concepts, analytical results, and data-driven insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
- A collaboration-first mentality, with a willingness to teach as well as learn from others
Nice to have additional skills
- Experience designing and building novel statistical models on time series data, including characterizing probabilistic outcome uncertainty
- Experience with database technologies and sql
- Experience with probability, hypothesis testing, and uncertainty quantification
- Experience with optimization techniques (e.g. stochastic optimization, robust optimization)
- Experience with data visualization and dashboarding technologies (e.g. plot.ly Dash, Streamlit)

What you will do
As a Senior/Staff Engineer at Equilibrium, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of energy software.
You’ll participate in critical frontend architecture decisions and strategic initiatives, shaping the experience for both internal customers and large power companies. We are building a deeply interconnected ecosystem of front end applications within a complex domain, creating software that enables both powerful automation and human agency. You’ll need to navigate complex, ambiguous problem spaces and translate intricate domain requirements into elegant, scalable UIs.

The minimum qualifications you'll need
- A commitment to clean energy and combating climate change.
- Experience with frontend/full-stack engineering, ideally at scale, including development and ownership of complex, data-intensive applications, and large-scale Typescript/React codebases.
- Collaboration-driven mentality: work closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and data scientists to deliver cohesive user experiences. The strongest candidates will have experience working across domains and contributing to technical discussions beyond their focus area.
- Demonstrable experience designing and implementing frontend strategies for effectively consuming, visualizing, and interacting with large, complex datasets, including understanding the underlying data models and APIs.
- Proficient in AI-augmented software engineering (e.g. Gen AI and LLMs, agentic tools, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.)
- Good understanding of security best practices, bonus points if it’s in an enterprise environment.
- Deep expertise with modern testing strategies for frontend applications, including unit, functional, and end-to-end testing frameworks (e.g. Testing Library, Cypress, and Playwright).
- Strong communication skills for collaborating within a remote-first company that spans all time zones across EU and the Americas.

What we are looking for
Equilibrium Energy is building the platform that will power the clean energy transition. As a Staff/ Sr Staff Software Engineer- Data Engineering, you will play a critical role in shaping our long-term data architecture. You’ll lead the design and implementation of high-impact data initiatives that support energy trading, forecasting, and AI development.
This is a hands-on role that blends platform engineering, advanced data processing, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll help scale our systems to enable near real-time decision-making and empower traders, data scientists, and operators to move faster with confidence.
What you will do
- Design and implement the long-term data architecture using modern technologies and frameworks.
- Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines in Python, SQL, and dbt—ingesting data via APIs, web scraping, and streaming sources.
- Develop and operate data pipelines using orchestration frameworks such as Temporal and Dagster.
- Design data models and schemas for our cloud warehouse (Databricks) and relational databases; contribute to the development of our ML feature store.
- Optimize workflows for performance and cost efficiency.
- Drive large, cross-functional data initiatives from planning to execution.
- Partner with AI and engineering teams to ensure high-quality datasets for machine learning and analytics.
- Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and engineers to gather requirements and deliver robust data products.
- Mentor other engineers in best practices for data ingestion, architecture, and scalable pipeline design.
- Support the software testing cycle, debug code, and resolve issues found during QA or user acceptance testing.
The minimum qualifications you’ll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in data or software engineering.
- Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL.
- Experience building globally distributed data systems and real-time pipelines.
- Hands-on with orchestration/stream processing tools like Temporal, Dagster, Airflow, Spark, or Kafka.
- Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Cassandra).
- Familiarity with data warehousing and cloud computing (Databricks and AWS preferred).
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing architectural direction.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work with unstructured or ambiguous datasets.
- Commitment to data quality, testing, and observability.
- Experience with both OLTP and OLAP data processing systems
Nice to have additional skills
- Experience with energy market data or weather data sources (e.g., NWS, NOAA, Yes Energy).
- Experience using dbt for transformations and data quality checks.

What we are looking for
Our power sector is in the middle of a major transformation. Its increasingly renewable resource mix and demand-side changes require algorithmic management far beyond what was historically required. Because of this, scalable model development and deployment is at the heart of what EQ does. We are looking for Staff / Sr Staff Software Engineers who are passionate about helping to deliver this scientific platform – to stay at the forefront of AI/ML technology and operationalize those solutions at enterprise scale.
What you will do
You will be a member of EQ’s Science Platform team. Our Science Platform enables our internal data scientists, as well as external customers, to develop, experiment with, deploy, and monitor forecasting and optimization models at scale. We sit between our data and infra engineers and our scientists - developing frameworks for model development that are both robust and efficient to iterate within. We help bring the algorithmic capabilities of our scientists to a broad range of customer energy applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Abstract away the complexities behind the deployment and orchestration of a large number of forecasting workflows, enabling a fast model development lifecycle for our Science team
- Integrate with data and compute infrastructure to optimize resource utilization and performance
- Implement automated testing and monitoring for ML models in production
- Maintain and iterate on our model registry and experiment tracking
- Co-design frameworks that support model experimentation, hyperparameter tuning, training, and deployment
- Partner with our Data Services team to incrementally improve our feature store and tie it to the EQ ontology
- Collaborate closely with data scientists to understand new model requirements and together implement solutions that are robust, validated, and scalable
- Collaborate with the Science Platform Simulation team to incorporate forecasting into physical and portfolio asset optimizations
- Partner with our Product and Customer Delivery teams to enable external customers to perform similar tasks to our internal scientists, with minimal code divergence and following security best practices
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in ML engineering and integrate best practices into the platform
The minimum qualifications you’ll need
- A commitment to clean energy and combating climate change
- Proficiency and 5+ years experience in Python software development
- Familiarity with automated build, deployment, and orchestration tools such as CI/CD, Pants, Docker, Metaflow, Argo, and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL, and data infrastructure
- Experience with observability tooling like Grafana, Honeycomb, and Prometheus
- Experience with common machine learning algorithms and libraries (xgboost, sklearn, pytorch, pandas, polars, pandera)
- Prior experience in operationalizing machine learning workflows
- Agility in working with cross-functional teams and adapting to new work methodologies
- Familiarity with agile practices, or a willingness to learn
- Strong communication skills for collaborating within a remote-first team that works internationally across timezones
