Who You Are

• You have led and managed complex coastal engineering projects from concept through construction, including coastal hazards and vulnerability assessments, engineering evaluations, and erosion/flooding studies, technical reports, design plan sets, specifications, cost estimates (PS&E packages), construction schedules, and/or construction support.
• You are adept in the engineering steps required to move projects from concept to construction bid package, including coordination with multidisciplinary teams such as geotechnical, structural, and hydraulic engineers as well as coastal planners and landscape architects.
• You have provided senior engineer review and oversight on large-scale coastal engineering projects, with an emphasis on Living Shorelines, nature-based solutions and multi-benefit flood and erosion protection, and have experience integrating coastal engineering with planning, economics, and resilience strategy development.
• You have led, managed, mentored, and/or supervised multi-disciplinary design and engineering teams including delegating and guiding engineers through simple to complex tasks. You are an effective communicator who fosters teamwork and inclusion, and shares knowledge and expertise with more junior staff through mentoring and direct supervision. 
• You have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in coastal engineering or a closely related discipline and a Professional Engineers license in California, Washington, and/or Oregon.

What You Will Do for ESA

• As a senior leader, contribute to annual and long-term strategic planning for our coastal engineering and coastal resilience practice. Cultivate best practices, facilitate knowledge sharing and technical training, mentor and manage more junior staff, develop and oversee implementation of engineering QA/QC protocols specific to coastal engineering and analysis, help manage workflow and workplans and make staffing and recruitment recommendations.

Our Coastal Engineering team is leading efforts throughout the West and Gulf Coasts to understand the increasing vulnerability of our shores, infrastructure, and communities and working to develop adaptation strategies and sound land use planning and policy. ESA has particular expertise in coastal hazards analysis under existing and future conditions, including sea level rise, wave runup, coastal flooding, and erosion processes, as well as adaptation planning and risk management, and nature-based adaptation and design solutions.

Along the Gulf of Mexico, we have worked with the Gulf States, counties, parishes, and federal agencies to plan and prioritize coastal resilience and restoration projects funded by the RESTORE Act. We also specialize in coastal lagoons and have developed management and enhancement plans for dozens of lagoons throughout the West Coast.

The ideal candidate shall manage projects for a growing group of cultural resources specialists within our Northern California Cultural Resources Group. The selected candidate will manage and carry out archaeological investigations and technical document preparation on a wide range of interesting projects throughout the region and practice and will be part of an interdisciplinary team that includes staff from our Water, Energy, Community Development, Transportation, and Airports practices. Who You Are

• The successful candidate will have: excellent technical skills, writing, time/budget management, and organizational capabilities; agency coordination and client service experience; proficiency in management of archaeological and tribal resources within the context of CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106; experience conducting CHRIS records searches, experience with leading archaeological survey and testing projects, documentation, evaluation, and treatment of Native American and historic-period archaeological resources; and experience preparing MND and EIR sections and developing mitigation. Who You Are 

• Water resources engineer with 10+ years of professional experience with an emphasis on freshwater restoration design within the southeastern United States, preferably Florida and some project management experience.
• You hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline and are a professionally licensed engineer (PE). A Florida Professional Engineers license is desirable.  If not licensed in Florida, willing and able to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire.

• You have prepared design plans for a variety of projects and have knowledge of state and federal regulations related to implementation, permitting or monitoring of water resource projects.
• You have experience with preparing technical specifications, engineer opinion of probable costs, and construction bid packages
• You are experienced in performing field inspections of existing water control structures and evaluation of existing water control system designs in freshwater, riverine, or tidal systems (Florida experience preferred).

ESA seeks a highly motivated Wetland Scientist and Permitting Specialist to join our Pacific Northwest Biological Resources and Land Management team.  Our ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience in wetland science and permitting in Washington and Oregon, but candidates with 5+ years of experience who meet the qualifications will also be considered. This is a salaried, full-time exempt role. Qualified candidates must be able and willing to work hybrid (1-2 days a week) from one of our Northwest Office Locations including: Seattle, Portland, & Bend.  Some travel required for in-person team collaboration, project visits, and field work as needed.  

We are interested in proactive candidates who have strong experience in one or more of the following: wetland and aquatic resource delineations, mitigation planning, preparing reports and applications for local, state, and federal permits coupled with experience and field work in botany, soil science, fisheries biology, wildlife ecology, and habitat restoration ecology. • A Scientist and Permitting Specialist with at least 5 years of experience in the Northwest collecting, analyzing, and presenting in writing ecological data and environmental documentation to support projects and obtain regulatory permits and approvals.
• You have experience developing and leading wetland and aquatic resources studies, with some experience in one or more of the biological disciplines ESA projects require, including botany, fisheries biology, wildlife ecology, and habitat restoration ecology. Certifications and training in one or more of these disciplines are a plus.
• You have served as the primary or contributing author on a variety of environmental documents such as Wetland and Stream Reports, critical area reports, Biological Assessments for Endangered Species Act consultations, habitat mitigation plans, strategic plans for watershed management, fish passage barrier assessments, and permit applications such as Joint Aquatic Resources Permit Applications and Joint Permit Applications.
• You have excellent writing and communication skills. You are known for preparing documents that are clear, concise, well-written and supported. 
• You have led field survey efforts and data collection for environmental projects and possess the ability to work with multiple teams and complex schedules.
• You have experience drafting scopes of work for Senior level review on small to complex projects, including identifying necessary tasks, preparing task descriptions, and estimating the associated level of effort.

What You Will Do for ESA

• As an Wetland Scientist and Permitting Specialist, you will serve as field lead or crew member performing field surveys and will be the primary author of environmental documents including technical memoranda, biological assessments/habitat evaluations, scientific discipline reports, habitat mitigation plans, and impact evaluations to support resource-related permit applications, including in support of Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act.  
• You will apply your technical skills and permitting knowledge to natural resources projects. You will serve as a technical specialist, participating in environmental analyses and coordinating with key team members, including senior and junior staff, subconsultants, and clients. Lead the preparation and implementation of biological field studies. This includes field studies such as wetland delineations, vegetation classification and habitat mapping, stream habitat assessment, fish passage barrier assessment, nesting bird surveys, endangered species occurrence, and water quality sampling. You will produce technical work and written products that are clear, concise, and well supported.
• You may serve as a Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, or Task Lead depending on complexity of project. You will demonstrate a clear understanding of project management principles and practices, including managing your work to the scope, budget, and schedule. You will proactively and constructively communicate to successfully navigate project or scope challenges that may arise. You will also take the initiative and resolve issues to assure client needs are met effectively, lead and advise on all aspects of project implementation, including the development of permitting strategies, provide QA/QC of work processes and deliverables, and lead teams completing technical studies that support permitting efforts.

ESA seeks a highly motivated Coastal Engineer to join our team of engineers and scientists in the Southeast region. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic team member with 2+ years of work experience, a passion for coastal processes and restoration, and the desire to learn and grow. This is a full-time and exempt role with office and field work expected. Strong preference given to candidates within a 1-hour commutable distance to one of these ESA Office locations: Tampa or Boynton Beach. Qualified candidates within a 1-hr commutable distance to other ESA offices including Sarasota, Orlando, & Pensacola will also be considered.  This role will involve some travel and field work as needed for in-person team collaborations and site visits as-needed. Who You Are 

• 2+ years of professional experience in coastal analyses with an emphasis on living shorelines, beach nourishment, dredging, inlet management, or natural systems restoration.

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is actively seeking On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians in the Northern California Area, including San Francisco, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, and Petaluma.  Candidates must be within a commutable distance and able to commute to support field work on-site as needed will also be considered.  

Who You Are

• You are an effective team member experienced in archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys, and documentation of archaeological, and/or paleontological resources in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and requirements. You live in Northern California to support local work. If you are available to travel to remote work locations, we will consider candidates from elsewhere in California as well. Potential for travel to Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Our Cultural Resources Team includes pre-contact and historical archaeologists, geoarchaeological specialists, tribal consultation specialists, architectural historians, historians, and paleontologists that provide expertise for many local, state, and federal agencies throughout California. Our work matters because we assist agencies in ensuring that our nation’s history and that of the tribal communities with whom we work are protected where possible and treated with respect. We value creative thinking, teamwork, and multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary engagement and integration.

Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to perform survey and other work-related tasks.
