At EBANX’s Engineering team, you don’t just write code. You help build and operate scalable solutions that ensure reliability and performance for millions of global transactions. Your work will contribute directly to the evolution of our platform, with a strong focus on system observability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
You will work in a team of experienced developers, contributing to a platform that processes millions of transactional requests every day. We cultivate an engineering culture that values sustainable quality, continuous delivery, high availability, fast feedback loops, and data-driven decision making.
As an EBANX Software Engineer, you will:
- Write, test, and maintain code in an incremental, well-documented, and production-oriented way;
- Contribute to code reviews and collaborate with teammates to improve code quality and system design;
- Follow your code through production, helping monitor, troubleshoot, and improve system behavior;
- Work with observability tools (metrics, logs, traces) to understand system performance and reliability;
- Help evolve internal tools and platform capabilities that improve developer experience and operational efficiency;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Product, Risk, Finance, and Business;
- Contribute to the reliability and scalability of a high-throughput, high-availability system;
- Participate in improving system monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices;
What you need to shine in this role
- Experience building and maintaining software systems in production environments;
- Solid experience with Java and backend development (experience with frameworks like Spring Boot is a plus);
- Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals (data structures, APIs, concurrency basics, persistence);
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git or similar);
- Willingness to learn and work with observability and platform-related topics;
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to different parts of the stack;
- Good collaboration and communication skills;
- English skills sufficient for reading/writing technical content and collaborating with global teams;
Bonus points if you have
- Experience or interest in observability practices (monitoring, logging, tracing);
- Familiarity with cloud environments (preferably AWS) and modern infrastructure concepts;
- Understanding of system performance, latency, and reliability concerns;
- Experience with distributed systems or asynchronous processing (even at a basic level);
- Knowledge of SQL and relational databases;
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation;
- Familiarity with the Java ecosystem (Spring, JVM tuning basics, etc.);

You will work in a team of experienced developers and be responsible for maintaining a platform that processes millions of transactional requests every day. As an EBANX developer you will be responsible for:
- Writing and testing code in an incremental, agile and well-documented way;
- Doing thorough code-reviews and help your teammates with complex designs and architectural decisions;
- Testing and following your code to production continuously;
- Developing new tools to help facilitate all of your team's work;
- Interacting with colleagues from different departments like Product, Finance, Risk and Business Development;
- Working on strategic projects for EBANX;
- Evolving and deciding the future of our payments platform;
- A system of high availability (+ 99.9%) and with high throughput (100+ TPS), written in PHP, and MySQL (yes, it is possible :smile:). Don't know PHP? No problems, the important thing is to master the basics!
What is indispensable for the job?
- Proven experience designing, implementing and deploying software solutions to production; the stack is not relevant, we are ready to teach it to new teammates if necessary;
- Interest in subjects such as data structures, concurrency, persistence and distributed systems;
- Expertise in git or any other collaborative version control system;
- A vision for software quality, evolution of systems, decomposition of problems and abstractions;
- A great ability to learn new practices, technologies, programming languages and absorbing engineering culture;
What would we love to see?
- Passion for software, you go to sleep and wake up thinking about how to make that part of the system more elegant or efficient;
- Advanced English, we have customers from all around the world and it is commonplace for us to speak and write English when helping, supporting and writing specifications with them;
- Software development expertise in any complementary area to our core business, such as: data warehouses, specialized development platforms, infrastructure automation, services provisioning, real-time systems, fault tolerant systems and mission critical systems;
- Experience with deploying to and monitoring a cloud infrastructure especially AWS.
- Experience with computer networks, latency, package loss, routing optimization, monitoring and problem solving;
- Full knowledge of SQL and relational databases;
- Test driven development: you don't even remember how to code without a very extensive test coverage; You often write the tests first and then the code.
- Expertise in at least one functional or logic programming language -- besides SQL ;)
- Comfortable with challenges of concurrency problems and has already worked in distributed and asynchronous systems;
- Knowledge of data replication and conciliation;

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives in high-pressure environments, excels in distributed systems design, and takes full accountability for the reliability of systems that handle millions of transactions daily.
As an EBANX developer, you will be responsible for:
- System Ownership: Take end-to-end accountability for complex features and core system components, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and resilient.
- High-Throughput Engineering: Architect and maintain Java-based systems with +99.9% availability, optimizing for high throughput and low latency.
- Technical Leadership: Drive the evolution of our engineering culture by leading deep code reviews, mentoring mid-level and junior developers, and setting high standards for documentation and testing.
- Strategic Integration: Collaborate with CloudOps, Product, Fraud, and Regulatory teams to translate complex Central Bank requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Incident Management & Reliability: Lead troubleshooting for critical issues, applying observability and performance tuning to prevent recurrence.
- Innovation for Efficiency: Develop internal tools and frameworks that improve the entire team's productivity and system observability.
What is indispensable for the position?
- Advanced Expertise in Java Stack: Deep knowledge of the Java ecosystem, including advanced Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and JVM tuning.
- Architectural Mastery: Proven experience with Design Patterns, SOLID principles, and Distributed Systems architecture.
- Database Proficiency: Advanced SQL skills and experience optimizing relational databases for high-concurrency environments.
- API Design: Extensive experience designing and maintaining mission-critical REST APIs, with a focus on system resilience.
