About the role...
Duolingo's Monetization pillar builds the systems that fund our mission — from subscription packaging and advertising to ML-powered personalization, performance marketing, and beyond. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you'll lead a cross-functional product engineering team working on high-impact, revenue-generating systems that help Duolingo grow sustainably while keeping the product playful, transparent, and learner-first. Your team will build and scale systems across ads and paid growth — building signal and audience pipelines, powering creative experimentation, improving ad quality, optimizing budget allocation, and strengthening attribution and ROI guardrails. Your role will be to improve the Android user experience by leveraging your extensive experience to enhance the performance and efficiency of our Android app. This position offers an exciting opportunity to drive performance improvement initiatives that directly impact user experience and retention. - Quickly develop native Android application performance optimizations in Kotlin.

- A minimum of 5 years of programming experience in Android development with a strong focus on performance optimization.
- Experience in developing world-class apps with stability, performance, and scalability in mind.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex performance issues, including memory leaks, UI lag, and slow network responses.
- The ability to communicate technical issues effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A desire to make the world a better place through technology and education.
- Ability to apply user insights, data, and statistical analyses to inform decisions.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Ability to work from or relocate to Beijing, China.

Come join our Music team and help us build the future of music education. We are looking for a Senior gameplay programmer with Unity background to help us implement our new music course. You will help build the best possible user experience for our learners through high-quality interactive lessons.

- Implement the new music course within the Duolingo app using embedded Unity.
- Productionize the existing prototype, turning it into robust, release-ready code.
- Work embedded within the Duolingo app architecture to ensure seamless integration of Unity.
- Collaborate with designers and product partners to refine the look and feel, ensuring a high-quality, gamified user experience.
- Proactively identify issues and opportunities to improve the learner experience.
- Engage in rapid prototyping to test new music mechanics and interaction models.

- Strong experience with Unity development (C#), specifically for mobile platforms (iOS/Android).
- Background in the gaming industry with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality game feel and polish.
- Sharp UX instincts and experience implementing complex UI/UX designs.
- Strong business sense, with proven experience working effectively with multi-functional team members (e.g. engineers, product, and design).
