About the role

We’re looking for a product-minded software engineer to join the team building Dagster+, our hosted SaaS product, to help make Dagster the de facto cloud solution for organizations to manage their data platform with AI-native tooling. In this role, you will drive improvements to Dagster’s backend system, agentic platform, and product UI to unlock new capabilities for our users. You will solve difficult technical problems throughout the software stack and work collaboratively with the rest of the team to plan and execute. You will instrument, monitor, debug, and optimize distributed & agentic systems from end to end. You’ll talk directly to our users (data engineers and platform owners) to understand how best to improve our product.

This is a full-time, competitively paid position with benefits. We are a distributed team with offices in San Francisco, New York, and Minneapolis. We have team members all over the U.S. and we are hiring fully remote candidates in the U.S. Every employee is provided a remote work stipend to cover the cost of home office equipment and anything else that makes your remote work location comfortable, productive, or successful. And if you’d rather not work from home, we’ll cover the cost of a coworking or office space if you’re fully remote.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute product development initiatives from prototype to user adoption, in collaboration with product and design and your peers in engineering
• Participate in technical architecture discussions and help the team make key technical decisions.
• Solve difficult technical problems throughout the software stack and get projects over the finish line, across front-end, back-end, or infrastructure.
• Proactively identify and address opportunities for enhancement—be it in code quality, user experience, or overall performance—and lead initiatives to make these improvements happen.

Must-have Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant software development experience
• Fluency in Python or a similar high-level programming language, and proficiency with frontend development (we use React)
• Expertise across the full software development lifecycle, from planning to delivery and iteration
• Experience in a high-functioning engineering organization working on B2B SaaS applications or large-scale distributed systems
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Proven effectiveness at contributing to and executing as part of a team

Nice-to-have Qualifications

• Experience with agentic product development, including MCP, skills, and evals
• Experience building services on Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes & Postgres
• Experience with Dagster or related data orchestrators
• Experience with using or supporting tools in the Modern Data Stack
• Experience engaging directly with users for research and support

About the role

As a Customer Success Manager (CSM) at Dagster Labs, you will own the post-sale customer experience for a portfolio of high-value accounts, ensuring customers achieve meaningful business outcomes on the platform.

This role is part of a high-touch, account-based Customer Success model:

• You will partner closely with an Account Executive (AE) who owns commercial outcomes (renewals, expansion, business alignment)
• You will own activation, adoption, value realization, and goal attainment—creating the conditions for successful commercial relationships
• This is a quota-carrying role, and variable compensation depends on the ability to retain and grow the account value of your assigned portfolio of customers

At Dagster, Customer Success is not reactive support—it is a proactive, outcome-driven function grounded in delivering value in every interaction (Knowledge, Empowerment, Gain).

Must-have Qualifications

• 4–7 years experience in Customer Success, Account Management, or similar roles in SaaS
• Experience managing mid-market and enterprise accounts
• Proven ability to:
  • drive adoption and customer outcomes
  • influence stakeholders across technical and business personas
• Strong analytical skills; able to translate usage and outcomes into business value
• Excellent communication skills (written + verbal), including executive-level communication
• Ability to operate independently and prioritize across competing demands
• Strong conceptual understanding of technical products (data, dev tools, or infrastructure preferred)

Nice-to-have Qualifications

• Experience in data engineering, data platforms, or developer tooling ecosystems
• Experience working in CS + AE partnership models
• Experience building or improving Customer Success processes
• Familiarity with:
  • dbt, Airflow, or orchestration tools
  • cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Track record of supporting expansions or renewals in complex accounts

About the role

We're looking for a product-minded software engineer to help make Dagster the platform of choice for large organizations. The Enterprise Readiness team at Dagster helps our largest customers be successful with Dagster, and you’ll make a direct impact by solving real-world problems and delivering meaningful solutions for our users and customers.

You'll work on Dagster+, our hosted cloud product, building the features and infrastructure that enterprise customers depend on — from scaling the platform to handle massive workloads, to building enterprise-grade security, billing, and administration capabilities. You'll solve hard distributed systems problems, ship features that directly unblock our largest customers, and help define the technical direction of our enterprise product. While you'll have direct access to customer feedback to inform your work, this is a software engineering role - you'll spend your time designing, building, and shipping code.

• Develop high-quality features, tools, and integrations that help customers smoothly adopt Dagster, including tools for migrations and seamless integrations with databases, ETL tools, and cloud services.
• Architect and build backend systems that serve our largest customers running thousands of concurrent workloads
• Collaborate with product and design to plan and ship features that unlock new enterprise use cases
• Use direct customer feedback to inform priorities, but focus your time on building software, not consulting
• Proactively identify and address opportunities for enhancement—be it in code quality, user documentation, or overall performance—and lead initiatives to make these improvements happen.
• Improve and maintain critical systems that support Enterprise requirements.

Must-have Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant software development experience
• Fluent in one or multiple high-level programming languages; we primarily use Python
• Expertise across the full software development lifecycle, from planning to delivery and iteration
• Comfort working across the stack: backend, infrastructure, and occasionally frontend
• Experience building and operating B2B SaaS or large-scale distributed systems
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Proven effectiveness at contributing to and executing as part of a team

Nice-to-have Qualifications

• Experience building enterprise features: auth/SSO, RBAC, billing systems, multi-tenancy
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code
• Interest in progressing into a tech lead role
• Experience with Dagster or data orchestration platforms
• Experience engaging with enterprise customers to understand technical requirements
