The Role

We are looking for extraordinary Backend Engineering Interns to join our team for a 2026 Summer Internship.  During your internship you will:

• Design, code, and test the backend of our distributed, open source database CockroachDB. 
• Be matched to a team based on your interests, and complete a project related to your focus area that is shared with the entire Engineering organization.
• Work closely with other engineers and product managers across our the cloud and database teams. 
• Take part in a collaborative culture and exchange knowledge with a highly experienced technical organization.
• Ensure that CockroachDB remains scalable, survivable, and consistent as we continue to grow as a company.
• Meet regularly with your Mentor and Manager to get feedback and continue refining your skills.

A huge bonus is that even after your experience at Cockroach Labs ends, your code will live on in our open source GitHub repo, CockroachDB. 

The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you will become an integrated member of our engineering team. During this time, you will work on a starter project that allows you to gain confidence in navigating the code base and begin to understand our engineering environment. We believe that it's important for you to take this first month to become familiar with our technology and our company. 

For the next 8-10 weeks, you will make meaningful contributions to our codebase. After wrapping up your starter project, you will work with your manager to focus your efforts on a project that aligns with your interests and the product roadmap.

The cohort will close out with our Intern Presentations, where each intern has the opportunity to showcase the work they've done to the entire Engineering organization.

You

• Are pursuing studies in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field graduating in 2027. 
• Have had exposure to coursework on subjects like distributed systems, concurrency control, data replication, file systems, or SQL processing.
• Are comfortable using programming languages like Go, C/C++, Java, and Python. We primarily use Go but if you're not familiar with it, you'll learn them while you're here.
• Love building relationships with your colleagues and enjoy being part of the code review process and partnering with your teammates on challenging problems.
• Have past experience working on production-level code.
• Are genuinely interested in Cockroach Labs's mission and are excited to use CockroachDB in your projects.

Our interview process consists largely of programming in a real environment, and we'll be evaluating you on the skills listed above.

The anticipated base salary range for U.S. candidates for this role is USD $8,250 to $8,750 per month. We set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. The Role

We are looking for a backend software engineer excited about growing an open-source, cloud-native distributed SQL database to join our KV team. This team is responsible for the distributed foundations of CRDB, including Resource Management (data sharding, placement, rebalancing and Admission Control), the Transaction Layer (e.g., transactional APIs, distributed transactions and concurrency control) and the Replication layer (e.g., Raft, distributed lease management and configuration changes). Together, these subsystems form the underpinnings of CRDB and the guarantees it provides to clients, namely Fault Tolerance, Availability, Consistency, Transactional Semantics as well as its Performance and Scalability. We collaborate closely with Product and other Engineering teams, such as the Storage, and SQL teams. Join us to be a part of cutting-edge work that provides foundational database functionality and enables a seamless experience for CockroachDB users.

You Will

• Contribute to the growth of CockroachDB by bringing your expertise and commitment to excellence to help build a database that makes data easy for everyone.

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across the KV layer, including transaction latency, replication overhead, and resource utilization under load.

The Expectations

In the first month, you will join your engineering team and start to learn about our production systems, software development workflow, and the architecture of CockroachDB and our cloud offerings. We believe that it's essential for you to take this time to become familiar with our technology, company, and our culture.

After three months, you'll be a fully-fledged member of the KV team and feel comfortable contributing to CockroachDB. You will begin determining the parts of our product that most interest you and work with your manager to focus your efforts on projects that align with your interests and our goals.

We want our users to have a phenomenal experience using our product. You play a crucial role in making CockroachDB a joy to use, and as our team grows, you will have the opportunity to shape the direction of development for CockroachDB and CockroachDB Cloud. You Have

• Passion for working on complex technical products and exposure to topics like distributed systems, consensus, data replication, concurrency control, file systems, or SQL processing.

The Team

Reporting to Nick Travers - Sr. Manager, Engineering

Nick joined Cockroach Labs in 2021, and looks after the Database Platform group, consisting of the Storage, Key Value (KV) and Server teams. Storage is responsible for Pebble, our RocksDB-inspired Log Structured Merge (LSM) Tree implementation. KV turns multiple Pebble stores into a multi-node distributed KV store, encompassing replication, transactions and resource management. The Server Team is responsible for a node’s lifecycle, including spin-up and tear-down, and the networking stack. Nick lives in Los Angeles with his wife and son. Hailing from Perth, Australia, he is an avid Arsenal Football Club supporter, dabbles in cookery, and loves being outdoors.

Jordan Lewis - VP of Engineering

Jordan is the Head of Engineering for Cockroach Labs. He’s responsible for the teams that build, maintain and keep CockroachDB reliably serving the needs of Cockroach Labs’ most demanding customer base. He joined Cockroach Labs as a Database Engineer in 2016 when it was just 25 people before moving into engineering leadership leading the Global Engineering organization. Jordan lives in his hometown of Brooklyn NY with his wife. Outside of work he enjoys folk music and riding his electric scooter around town.

The Role

We are looking for a seasoned Product Manager to own the end-to-end CockroachDB Data Onboarding user journey — the critical on-ramp for every CockroachDB customer. You will define the strategy, product direction, and measurable outcomes that transform complex migrations from databases like PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server into a predictable, low-friction, and self-service experience, powered by AI-native tooling. Your north star: any user can go from schema introspection to a successful data load in under an hour.

This is a deeply customer-centric role that sits at a critical inflection point in CockroachDB’s growth. Migrations are among the most painful and high-stakes steps in adopting any database platform — and a friction point in our sales motion today. The migration experience spans schema conversion, bulk data ingestion, compatibility validation, and live cutover, and it must work seamlessly across a diverse set of source databases and deployment environments. Strong data onboarding shortens time-to-production, reduces dependency on professional services, and builds early trust in the platform. This is CockroachDB’s front door, and you will define what it means to walk through it confidently.

Large language models are poised to fundamentally transform what is possible with database migrations, turning what has historically been one of the most manual, expert-intensive workflows in enterprise software into something that could be self-service. As the PM for Data Onboarding, you will be at the frontier of a new class of AI-native developer tooling, and you will wrestle with some of the most interesting product questions of our time: What are the right economics of embedding LLMs in a migration workflow — and who bears the token costs? Should customers bring their own model or API key, or does CockroachDB provide a fully managed AI experience hosting the models ourselves? How do you design for trust when an LLM is making schema decisions on behalf of a DBA? How do you measure and improve AI accuracy in a domain where a wrong data type mapping can break production? These are open questions without obvious answers, and this role puts you squarely at the center of defining them.

You Will

Own the end-to-end journey. Lead the full lifecycle of the Data Onboarding experience — from initial schema introspection through data load, cutover, and post-migration validation — across all supported source databases. Define metrics that capture migration completion rates, time-to-value, and customer support signal to surface gaps and drive continuous improvement across all customer personas: Architects, DBAs, and Developers.

Build a problem-first, data-driven strategy. Deeply understand the pain customers face during migrations: fragmented tooling, incomplete compatibility coverage, manual workarounds, and the lack of prescriptive guidance that leaves teams without a clear path forward. Define a roadmap that balances AI-augmented schema conversion, unified migration tooling, expanded database source coverage, and self-service capabilities — prioritizing using a combination of qualitative customer signals and quantitative migration funnel data.

Deliver measurable outcomes. Set and track success metrics spanning self-service migration completion rates, reduction in migration-related professional services engagements, and time-to-first-successful-import. Ensure product changes deliver real, validated value and iterate rapidly when they don’t.

Lead with clarity and customer centricity. Act as the voice of the customer — particularly Architects evaluating migration risk and DBAs managing the cutover process — in all strategic decisions. Communicate complex migration trade-offs clearly across Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Executives, aligning teams around a coherent narrative: migrating to CockroachDB is fast, low-risk, and genuinely self-service. Drive cross-functional alignment on how data onboarding improvements shorten sales cycles and reduce professional services dependency.

Apply an AI-first mindset. Lead the development and evolution of AI-native migration tooling as the centerpiece of a unified, end-to-end migration experience. Identify opportunities to apply large language models to schema conversion, data type mapping, error remediation, and migration guidance — eliminating hard-fail outcomes and reducing the manual effort that defines migrations today. 

The Expectations

In the first 30–60 days, you will go through PM onboarding with your onboarding mentor (Roachmate). You will familiarize yourself with CockroachDB’s current migration tooling. You will run a complete end-to-end migration from a PostgreSQL or Oracle source, experiencing the workflow firsthand: schema conversion, compatibility gaps, bulk loading, and verification. You’ll review the existing backlog, speak with customers and prospects who have recently migrated (or stalled), and align with Engineering leads across the migration tooling teams.

After 90 days, you will be fully integrated into the team. You will have conducted deep customer calls to understand migration blockers, support escalations, and the specific friction points that slow or derail time-to-production. You will own the strategy and a prioritized roadmap with clear problem statements backed by migration funnel data and customer evidence. As the owner of CockroachDB’s front door, you will advise senior leadership on how data onboarding investments drive new lands, reduce professional services costs, and shorten sales cycles. You will partner closely with Sales to ensure migration narratives are field-ready and directly tied to product capabilities you are shipping.

You Have

• A computer science degree and/or first-hand experience building products focused on databases, data engineering, ETL/ELT pipelines, or developer tooling
• 4+ years of total work experience with enterprise or SaaS products
• Proven track record of improving user journeys while leveraging both qualitative and quantitative data
• Delivered successful customer-facing products or features by partnering with senior Engineering teams in a fast-moving environment
• Background working directly with medium-to-large enterprises — understanding their operational and economic constraints, setting proper timelines, and managing expectations with internal stakeholders and external teams
• Experience driving business results through influential communication and cross-functional stakeholder management across Engineering, PMM, Sales, and Finance
• A collaborative approach and eagerness to partner with other product teams and all functions in the company, including Legal, Finance, Marketing, and Sales

We are looking for a seasoned Product Manager to own the end-to-end Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery (BCDR) user journey for our customers. You will define the strategy, product direction, and measurable outcomes that ensure CockroachDB meets the world’s toughest uptime, resilience, and recovery expectations.

This is a highly technical, deeply customer-centric role that requires systems thinking, sharp problem definition, and strong cross-functional leadership. You will leverage both qualitative and quantitative data (customer telemetry, product analytics, operational outcomes, and failover success metrics) to guide prioritization, validate hypotheses, and drive data-backed decisions that deliver seamless, reliable user experiences.

You Will

• Own the end-to-end journey. Lead the full lifecycle, from awareness and activation (e.g., validating RPO/RTO targets) through ongoing use and renewal. Using metrics to surface gaps and drive continuous improvement.
• Build a problem-first, data-driven strategy. Understand customer needs across key personas (SRE, platform, architect). Define a multi-year roadmap balancing performance, cost, RPO/RTO guarantees, and operational simplicity. Prioritize using qualitative and quantitative signals.
• Deliver measurable outcomes. Set and track success metrics (DR adoption, failover success rate, time-to-recovery). Ensure customers reliably achieve their RPO/RTO targets. Validate that product changes deliver real value and iterate when they don’t.
• Lead with clarity and customer centricity. Act as the customer’s voice in strategic decisions. Communicate technical concepts clearly across engineering, PMM, Sales, and executives, aligning teams around the user journey success and failure points.
• Apply an AI-first mindset. Use AI to accelerate insights, improve product quality, and increase the efficiency of delivering customer value.

The Expectations

In the first 30-60 days, you will go through PM onboarding with your onboarding mentor (Roachmate). You will familiarize yourself with the current state of our disaster recovery capabilities and how they address customers’ business continuity and disaster recovery journey and process. You will create Cloud clusters, and try out the core features, to get a sense of the end-to-end experience for yourself. You’ll review our current backlog, get up to speed on in-flight features, and understand today's most pressing customer problems. 

After 90 days, you will be fully integrated into the team. You will conduct customer calls and work with our internal account teams to understand core customer problems. There are countless opportunities for us to invest in. You will prioritize the ones that exceed our customers’ expectations and allow them to seamlessly integrate CockroachDB into their operations without worrying about recovering from disasters. As the owner of an integral part of our customer and product growth, you will be an important advisor to senior members of our team as we determine how disaster recovery capabilities can support and accelerate our growth. You will also be expected to partner with our Sales team and meet with our most important customers and their operating teams.

The Role

The Director of Compensation and Equity is a high-impact individual contributor role responsible for designing and executing Cockroach Labs' compensation strategy across base salary, variable pay, and equity. Reporting to the Sr. Director, People Operations & Development, this person will serve as the company's subject matter expert on compensation and equity partnering directly with senior leaders, HR Business Partners, and front-line managers to ensure our compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and built to scale. This role requires both strong analytical rigor and the ability to execute independently across the full compensation and equity lifecycle. We are looking for someone who brings deep expertise and genuine curiosity about how AI is reshaping what a single great practitioner can accomplish.

You Will

• Own the design and ongoing refinement of Cockroach Labs' global compensation philosophy, salary structures, and pay bands across all functions and levels, and lead annual review cycles -- merit, promotion, and equity refresh -- with rigor and consistency
• Evaluate the effectiveness of incentive and variable pay programs, surfacing recommendations grounded in market data and business outcomes
• Conduct and interpret market benchmarking using established survey sources (e.g., Radford, Pave, Carta), translating data into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership
• Partner with Finance on compensation budget planning, headcount modeling, and compensation expense forecasting
• Design and administer Cockroach Labs' equity compensation programs -- including option and RSU plan design, grant guidelines, and refresh frameworks -- ensuring programs remain competitive and aligned to company stage, employee expectations, and potential liquidity events
• Partner with Legal, Finance, and outside counsel on equity plan governance, 409A valuations, and regulatory compliance
• Ensure employees and managers understand the value of their equity and can speak to it clearly
• Support the development of Compensation Committee materials and contribute to executive compensation decisions in partnership with the Sr. Director, CPO, CFO, and Legal
• Partner on job architecture and leveling frameworks to ensure they remain competitive and internally equitable
• Leverage AI-powered tools and emerging compensation technology to scale analytical work, build repeatable processes, and make compensation expertise accessible across the organization.

The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you will orient yourself by conducting a thorough review of Cockroach Labs' existing compensation structures, equity programs, salary bands, and benchmarking methodology. You will meet with key stakeholders across People, Finance, and Legal to understand current priorities and build foundational relationships with the HRBPs, Recruiters and business leaders you will support. You will also develop a clear picture of where our compensation programs are competitive and where there are gaps, working with your manager to align on priorities that you will then move into action.

By day 60, you will identify the highest-priority opportunities for improvement across base pay, variable compensation, and equity, and begin moving on the most time-sensitive of them. You will build trust with the HRBP team by becoming a reliable and knowledgeable resource for active compensation decisions. You will also assess our current equity program relative to market and stage, and develop an initial point of view on where it needs to evolve.

By day 90, you will have established yourself as the go-to expert for compensation and equity decisions at Cockroach Labs. You will have delivered or have in-flight meaningful progress against at least one foundational priority -- whether that is a refreshed salary band framework, a refined equity grant guideline, or a benchmarking process upgrade. You will be actively engaged in ongoing compensation decisions alongside HRBPs and senior leaders, and you will be ready to support your first Compensation Committee reporting with confidence.

You Have

• 8 to 12+ years of experience in compensation, with a strong concentration in total cash and equity compensation at high-growth, global technology companies
• Deep expertise in equity program design at a growth-stage technology company, including hands-on experience with option types (ISOs, NSOs), RSUs, vesting structures, 409A implications, and secondary market considerations
• Experience designing and evolving bonus and variable compensation programs across functions, including sales compensation structures such as OTE, commission mechanics, and accelerators.
• Deep proficiency in market benchmarking methodologies and survey tools (Radford, Mercer, Carta, Pave, or comparable), with the ability to model compensation scenarios, cost impact analyses, and budget projections
• Ability to translate and communicate complex compensation concepts into clear, plain language for managers, recruiters, HRBPs, and employees at every level. 
• Demonstrated daily use of AI tools to improve the speed and quality of compensation work — including analysis, modeling, and documentation — with a consistent practice of reviewing, refining, and owning all AI-assisted output.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field required; CCP or CEP designation is a strong plus

The Team

Lauren Weber - Sr. Director, People Operations & Development

Lauren has spent nearly seven years growing alongside the company from 100 to over 500 employees. She leads the function across three interconnected work streams: Total Rewards, People Operations, spanning HR, compliance, immigration, and payroll; and Talent Development, which includes the HRBP team and people programs from performance cycles to career ladders.

A culture vulture born and raised in Kentucky, Lauren holds an MBA from Georgetown and built her HR foundation through roles in fintech and consulting. We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing Accounting team!

You Will

• Perform general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, SOX compliance, and other ad hoc tasks
• Execute monthly accounting close activities and complete related deliverables on time
• Perform reconciliations and conduct actual vs. actual flux analysis with a strong attention to detail
• Coordinate and assist with external audit requests

You Have

The Role

We are looking for a seasoned Product Manager to own the end-to-end CockroachDB Efficient & Always-on Transactions user journey — the core of what CockroachDB promises its customers. You will define the strategy, product direction, and measurable outcomes that enable CockroachDB to deliver globally consistent, highly available, horizontally scalable, and low-latency transactions at any scale — from single-region deployments to distributed, multi-region architectures designed to survive regional failures without compromising consistency or performance.

This is a highly technical, deeply customer-centric role that requires systems thinking, sharp problem definition, and strong cross-functional leadership. You will leverage both qualitative and quantitative data, including TCO benchmarks, latency distributions, CPU and storage efficiency metrics, to guide prioritization, validate hypotheses, and drive data-backed decisions. Your work will directly address the critical gaps that prevent architects from standardizing on CockroachDB, DBAs and SREs from trusting it operationally, and developers from optimizing it independently. This is the "why CockroachDB" story: resilience, consistency, scale, and speed, all delivered globally, always on, and without compromise. You will set the standard by which all CockroachDB functionality is evaluated: does it support a fully always-on, multi-region database experience for mission-critical workloads?

You Will 

• Own the end-to-end journey. Lead the full lifecycle of performance, reliability, cost efficiency, and multi-region capabilities, from competitive evaluation and initial adoption through operational trust and broad expansion. This includes CockroachDB's foundational always-on promise: surviving regional failures without data loss, enabling low-latency reads and writes globally, and delivering strict consistency at planetary scale. Define metrics to measure price-performance improvements, multi-region survivability, plan stability, and support ticket ratios to surface gaps and drive continuous improvement across all customer personas: Architects, DBAs, SREs, and Developers.
• Build a problem-first, data-driven strategy. Deeply understand the economic and operational pain customers face: TCO that blocks broader adoption of CockroachDB in enterprises, scale limits, and the complexity of running globally distributed, multi-region workloads with strict latency SLOs and data domiciling requirements. Define a roadmap balancing storage and CPU efficiency, plan stability, competitive benchmarking, SQL diagnostics, contention reduction, and multi-region capabilities — including survivability modes, low-latency global reads, and geo-partitioning. Prioritize using a combination of qualitative customer signals and quantitative performance data.
• Deliver measurable outcomes. Set and track success metrics spanning competitive win rates in TCO-centric deals, expansion into broader workloads, reduction in latency-related support tickets, and internal efficiency benchmarks. Ensure product changes deliver real, validated value and iterate rapidly when they don't. 
• Lead with clarity and customer centricity. Act as the voice of the customer — particularly Architects who need rigorous TCO justification, and DBAs/SREs who need operational predictability — in all strategic decisions. Communicate complex performance and infrastructure trade-offs clearly across Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Executives, aligning teams around a coherent narrative: CockroachDB is not just the most resilient database, but also the most trustworthy and operationally efficient one.
• Apply an AI-first mindset. Use AI to accelerate insights, improve product quality, and increase the efficiency of delivering customer value. Identify opportunities to bring AI-assisted query diagnosis, automated plan management, and intelligent self-remediation into the product roadmap as longer-term investments that reduce the "black box" experience customers describe today.

The Expectations

In the first 30–60 days, you will go through PM onboarding with your onboarding mentor (Roachmate). You will familiarize yourself with CockroachDB's current performance, storage, and CPU efficiency capabilities and how they map to the Efficient & Always-on Transactions user journey. You will spin up Cloud clusters — including multi-region deployments — run benchmark workloads (e.g., sysbench OLTP read-write), and experience the end-to-end diagnosis workflow firsthand, from identifying a slow query to understanding plan changes and contention. You'll test CockroachDB's survivability modes, explore geo-partitioning and zone configurations, and develop an intuition for the latency trade-offs inherent in globally distributed transactions. You'll review the existing backlog, get up to speed on in-flight initiatives, and align with Engineering leads across various teams.

After 90 days, you will be fully integrated into the team. You will have conducted customer calls to deeply understand their scaling challenges, TCO concerns, and operational anxieties. You will own the strategy, and a prioritized roadmap with clear problem statements backed by competitive benchmark data and customer evidence. As the owner of an integral part of our product's growth story, you will advise senior leadership on how efficiency and reliability investments support expansion into standard workloads and improve adoption. You will partner closely with Sales to ensure TCO narratives are validated, field-ready, and directly tied to product capabilities you are shipping.

You Have

• A computer science degree and/or first-hand experience building products focused on databases, distributed systems, performance engineering, or infrastructure
• 7+ years of total work experience with enterprise or SaaS products
• Proven track record of improving user journeys while leveraging both qualitative and quantitative data
• Delivered successful customer-facing products or features by partnering with senior Engineering teams in a fast-moving environment
• Background working directly with medium-to-large enterprises — understanding their operational and economic constraints, setting proper timelines, and managing expectations with internal stakeholders and external teams
• Experience driving business results through influential communication and cross-functional stakeholder management across Engineering, PMM, Sales, and Finance

We’re looking for a passionate, results-oriented Salesforce specialist to help maintain and support our Salesforce CRM. Own end-to-end integrations (API + middleware) and data migrations into Salesforce; partner with app owners to deliver reliable, secure, observable data flows. The Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our Storage team. Storage is the team responsible for Pebble, CockroachDB’s storage engine. Storage is the bedrock of our database product, and is responsible for the safe, durable and efficient persistence and retrieval of data, on top of which the rest of the database is built.

Our team develops and maintains Pebble, an innovative Log Structured Merge (LSM) Tree storage engine, purpose built for Multi Version Concurrency Control (MVCC) data. Additionally, our team develops higher layer storage features for integration with CockroachDB, such as MVCC APIs for mutation and iteration, and the Enterprise Encryption At Rest (EAR) feature in CockroachDB. The team also has a hand in the development, operation and troubleshooting of our Cockroach Cloud product, as it relates to the various storage offerings of the cloud providers on top of which Cockroach Cloud runs.

Jordan Lewis - VP of Engineering

Jordan is the Head of Engineering for Cockroach Labs. He’s responsible for the teams that build, maintain and keep CockroachDB reliably serving the needs of Cockroach Labs’ most demanding customer base. He joined Cockroach Labs as a Database Engineer in 2016 when it was just 25 people before moving into engineering leadership leading the Global Engineering organization. Jordan lives in his hometown of Brooklyn NY with his wife. Outside of work he enjoys folk music and riding his electric scooter around town.

Our work has a broad-reaching impact on teams who rely on these tools on a daily basis. Our tools and systems encompass the workflow of the entire Engineering team, ranging from the CI pipeline to internal cloud infrastructure. Success in this role means collaborating with many teams and improving workflows for engineers working in both database and cloud engineering. As part of a small, senior team, you'll get direct mentorship and regular feedback from experienced engineers and engineering leadership.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in software engineering, CI systems, source control and builds, automation, or cloud infrastructure, and enjoys working on a variety of problems and projects between building software and managing infrastructure.

You Will

• Learn engineers’ daily workflows across the org and identify ways to increase productivity and reduce friction through new tools and processes
• Provide direct support to engineers using our systems
• Maintain the health and performance of our CI system
• Build developer infrastructure tools, primarily in Go

The Expectations

First month: You'll onboard as a member of the Developer Infrastructure team. Your first two weeks focus on how Cockroach Labs works across departments and on our DB and Cloud Engineering teams. You'll start with small tasks, then take on larger starter projects to learn our systems, development workflows, and how CockroachDB and CockroachDB Cloud work. We expect you to use this month to get familiar with our technology and company.

Second month: You'll take on your first medium-sized project (several weeks in scope), partnering with one or more engineers to plan and deliver it.

By month three: You'll be a fully contributing team member, having owned and completed one or more medium-sized projects. You'll have enough familiarity to propose and scope work and to support other Cockroach Labs engineers on our development tools. 

You Have

• A BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• A desire to make other engineers more productive — you think of engineers as your customers
• Curiosity and willingness to learn unfamiliar tools and systems quickly
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, service-oriented mindset
• Comfort working in Unix/Linux command-line environments

You'll stand out if you also have experience with:

• Cloud infrastructure on GCP or AWS
• Build systems and CI/CD pipelines (Bazel, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Webpack etc.)
• Agentic AI development tools (Cursor, Claude Code)
• Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• Go programming

Ken Liu - Sr. Director of Engineering

Ken is an experienced engineering leader who has built and scaled teams at several high-growth startups in NYC. Since joining Cockroach Labs in 2019, he has built our Engineering Productivity, Security Engineering, and Compliance functions from scratch while also leading several DB engineering teams. Outside work, he spends most of his energy keeping up with his two teenagers and enjoys reliving the 90s by rollerblading on weekends.

BabuSrithar - Site Lead, India 

BabuSrithar is the Site Leader for India. He is responsible for our growth strategy and is a cultural champion in the region. He is passionate about building high-quality software products and lean teams by leveraging everyone's potential. He enjoys working with people and learning along the way. Before joining Cockroach Labs, BabuSrithar held senior leadership positions at companies like Nutanix, Clumio and recently he was VP of engineering at Apty where he led the engineering globally. When not at work, he enjoys his time with his 3-year-old and family.

Jordan Lewis - VP of Engineering

Jordan is the Head of Engineering for Cockroach Labs. He’s responsible for the teams that build, maintain and keep CockroachDB reliably serving the needs of Cockroach Labs’ most demanding customer base. He joined Cockroach Labs as a Database Engineer in 2016 when it was just 25 people before moving into engineering leadership leading the Global Engineering organization. Jordan lives in his hometown of Brooklyn NY with his wife. Outside of work he enjoys folk music and riding his electric scooter around town.
