As a Senior Software Engineer at Checkr, you will work on high impact engineering projects that help build a fairer future for all. Checkr is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the Growth group, working primarily on customer signup flows and fraud management. Our team’s focus is to ensure that customers who sign up for Checkr have a seamless and intuitive experience, while ensuring that bad actors are removed as threats to our platform.

You will work in a collection of small services built on Ruby and Javascript, utilizing relational databases, as well as event streams for asynchronous tasks. Checkr was founded by engineers for engineers; we want to create the best environment for developers to build, learn and love their work.

Responsibilities:

• Own the product development of full-stack features from design, implementation, to release
• Partner with product, design and other non-technical stakeholders in designing new features
• Collaborate with other engineers within the team and across the Growth organization in architecting and implementing new features
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve our products
• Deliver performant, reliable, scalable, and secure code
• Monitor, investigate, triage, and resolve production issues as they arise for services owned by the team

About the team/role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Monetization team, you will be at the forefront of building the foundational pricing and billing systems that power Checkr’s global scale. You will design and enhance the platform architecture responsible for automating the entire quote-to-cash lifecycle, ensuring our infrastructure is flexible enough to support both current products and future expansions. This is a high-impact role where you’ll develop robust solutions that directly accelerate our speed to market and streamline how we monetize our core offerings.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our monetization systems are seamlessly integrated and meet the highest standards of reliability, accuracy and performance. You will focus on building scalable platform solutions where your technical contributions have a direct line to the company's bottom line. • End-to-End Ownership: Lead the product development lifecycle for complex features—collaborating on ideation and design, executing implementation, and managing the release of mission-critical monetization systems.

What you bring

• Senior Backend Expertise: 5+ years of experience building scalable backend systems. You have strong proficiency in at least one modern language—ideally Ruby, Golang, or Python—and a deep understanding of CS fundamentals, including relational databases, ORMs, and RESTful APIs.
• Distributed Systems Mastery: You have a proven track record of designing and maintaining reliable distributed systems. You can navigate the trade-offs of microservices architecture and have hands-on experience with CI/CD, Pub/Sub systems, and RPC frameworks.

We are seeking an experienced and talented Tech Lead to join our Engineering team. This role involves integrating a recently acquired background check product into the Checkr ecosystem and developing it into a solid foundation for a comprehensive identity verification solution.

The Tech Lead will oversee the near-term integration of newly acquired background check solutions into Checkr. Responsibilities include working on data vendor integrations and developing the system into a long-term identity verification platform. The current background check solution includes multiple public APIs, public and internal portals, and numerous microservices.
