We are hiring a Public Cloud Solution Architect to drive Canonical’s joint initiatives and technical engagements with major public clouds. This role will act as the technical counterpart to Canonical’s Cloud Alliance GTM Lead, working closely with engineering, sales, and product management teams across Canonical and our cloud partners. Canonical is building a new generation of Ubuntu-based container images to simplify open-source application deployment across the world. These container images will be free to use with long-term security commitments, and engineered for performance, security and usability. The role of a Technical Author

A product-focused Technical Author is a member of a product engineering team, typically focused on a product or family of products. In this role you'll help the team develop documentation that serves the needs of the product's users. You will have responsibility for  the quality of the user experience with the product, and will contribute towards the long-term success of the project itself.

A customer-focused Technical Author works in a team such as Field Engineering, Customer Success or Support, dealing with users of complex suites of Canonical software products, sometimes deployed in custom configurations. In this role you’ll take a responsive approach to software documentation problems and develop a strong understanding of how products work together and are used in the real world.   

An operations-focused Technical Author is part of a business team, for example Legal, HR or Talent. An important part of this work is to maintain internal documentation, such as employee handbooks. We are hiring a Software Engineer to develop, test and release improvements to the Ubuntu on public clouds. 

The quality and stability of the Ubuntu is critically important, since it's available on every public cloud. We are hiring a software architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud.

Our goal is to make clusters of compute, with system containers or virtual machines, "just work". It should be trivial to stand up a small cloud using one, two or twenty servers. This is a challenging exercise in distributed systems, virtualisation, container technology, networking and storage. As with the Ubuntu desktop, our goal is to make it easy and to make it reliable for people to focus on the things that really matter to them rather than the OS and infrastructure.

LXD is a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator widely used on Ubuntu, ChromeOS and other Linux platforms. LXD engineering spans the entire software stack from low-level kernel work on namespaces, confinement, security, filesystems, VMMs and networking, to the high level management REST API and CLI. As a software architect, you will drive the architecture, design and evolution of LXD, and also Canonical MicroCloud which combines LXD with Ceph and OVN to make a lean, easy to use and resilient cluster-scale cloud infrastructure.

We are looking for an outstanding software architect and engineer with experience in Golang and C, with the leadership qualities needed to rally a team to ship outstanding products. Knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure offerings, their APIs and their underlying technologies is a must.

We are hiring a Revenue Accounting Manager, ideally a candidate with a passion for systems accounting, to drive revenue recognition process, decisions, systems and reporting.

In our finance function we aspire to set the industry pace for speed and accuracy of reporting. We aim to achieve this by driving our product pricing and terms, contracting, sales processes and systems into alignment.

We are looking for a professionally qualified accounting leader with expertise in IFRS 15/ASC 606 to build scalable contract review and revenue recognition processes. This lead will work across teams including product management, legal, FP&A, sales operations and commercial business systems to align understanding and ensure that the accounting and revenue recognition treatment of contracts and products is straightforward and correct, with a very high level of automation. Perhaps unusually we prefer a leader with deep personal interest in the software and technology industry, and ideally some data analytics and software engineering experience. Visas, travel complications and unexpected situations make this a complex operation to run efficiently, demanding a rigorous approach and high work ethic in the team.

The role of a Treasury Analyst at Canonical

As a Treasury Analyst, you will be a key team member of the Finance team ensuring that Canonical’s global liquidity and cash movements are managed and controlled in a manner consistent with our Treasury Policy. You will support the execution of approved cash management including international intercompany funding, multi-currency transactions and FX strategies while managing the financial risks associated with global operations.

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems at Canonical

As a Project Manager for Canonical’s Devices business, this role is responsible for the coordination and completion of large complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of project delivery and acting as the primary delivery liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and Canonical's customers.

Sector go-to-market:

Currently, sector GTM leads report to the VP Alliances, but the overall sector strategy and execution will be a CRO responsibility and the organisation structure will be determined by them. We are currently building out expertise and leadership in the telco, finance, automotive, energy, retail and health sectors; we expect to expand sector specific investments significantly to speak directly to customer need and trends.

Field engineering:

Our VP Field Engineering will report to the CRO. Our field engineering organisation is more than a traditional pre-sales or solution architect team, they are expert implementers with a commitment to deliver what they themselves promise. They have served as an effective way to accelerate customer adoption and confidence as Ubuntu and our open source solutions displace incumbent providers.

Customer success:

Our Head of Customer Success will report to the CRO. This is a new organisation but has already made significant progress in establishing processes and relationships, we expect to grow this capability as we expand our portfolio and move deeper into solution sales.

Potentially, revenue operations ("sales ops"):

Our Head of Revenue Operations will report to either the COO or the CRO. In this organisation we:

• Ensure correct reporting of pipeline and progress

The Canonical MAAS team is responsible for delivering our Metal As A Service hyperscale provisioning technology. Ubuntu strives to be the most scalable, cloud ready server distribution and MAAS is our platform to get it there. This role entails

• Develop MAAS core components and features to make MAAS the #1 bare metal cloud system.
• Shape the architecture of MAAS to make it simpler, faster and easier to use.
• Collaborate with other teams to ensure MAAS works well with other tools and is released on time.
• Contribute your improvements to our continuous integration environment, tests and practices, to maintain fast feedback and good test coverage.
• Contribute to documentation of current and existing features, making it world-class resource for Data Centre operators and users.
• Provide technical communication and collaboration with other teams where appropriate.

What we are looking for in you

• Passionate about open source software, Linux, and Data Centre automation
• Solid track record of professional software development experience in Python, Go for back-end roles, or TypeScript, React for front-end roles.
• Capacity to learn quickly about new systems and techniques
• Excellent logic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
• Strong English language communication skills - both written and verbal
• Experience with Linux server technologies, including but not limited to Virtualization (KVM), Containers (LXC), etc.
• You have a Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree
• Knowledge of network technologies, including PXE, DHCP, TFTP, DNS, NTP
• Some experience with Baseboard Management Controllers and Protocols (Redfish, IPMI, AMT and others)
• Strong experience with networking, storage technologies and Cloud hosting and infrastructure.
• Ideally, experience of large-scale physical server provisioning and automation, including rapid deployment, configuration, management and service orchestration.
• Familiarity with some of the open source development tools and methodologies used in creation of several Ubuntu projects (MAAS, Juju, Ubuntu Server, LXD, Ubuntu Core), such as Launchpad, Debian packaging tools (APT, dpkg) and snapcraft.
• An exceptional academic track record from both high school and preferably university.
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events

We are hiring a Software Engineer for Distributed Systems Testing with a passion for building and validating resilient distributed systems. You drive the success of those leveraging Canonical’s Ubuntu and Juju to build multi-cloud deployable applications. We see quality engineering as a first class engineering practice and are looking for people who can bring deep engineering insights and a data driven approach to testing, test automation, reporting and data analytics.

The Distributed Systems testing team at Canonical is responsible for the high quality of Canonical’s Cloud solutions based on for example Juju, Terraform, OpenStack, or Kubernetes. Systems are tested and deployed under highly diverse conditions, from bare metal in customer data centers to public clouds such as AWS, GCE, Azure.

As a software engineer you will have the opportunity to develop CI pipelines which power Canonical’s cloud integration testing and reporting. You will help test our products on new clouds and advance our AI/ML pipelines for automatic analysis of test results. A successful candidate is interested in tackling these problems, as well as imagining and leading new initiatives within the team and across Canonical.

The role entails

• Creating automated testing approaches and infrastructure for validating reliability, performance, and resilience of cloud orchestration tools and applications 
• Enabling engineering teams across Canonical to develop software with confidence by making distributed system testing tooling available across the company
• Enhancing continuous integration pipelines for deploying and testing Canonical’s cloud native products such as Kubeflow
• Deploying, managing, and debugging highly distributed systems on clouds and bare metal
• Monitoring and reporting on automated testing efforts
