We’re hiring a Legal Operations Manager to own legal spend management, budgeting, forecasting, vendor oversight, and the financial/operational engine that powers our global Legal organization.

In this role, you’ll run the systems, processes, and analytics that ensure fiscal rigor, vendor performance, and operational excellence. You’ll partner closely with Finance, Procurement, AP, Tax, and Legal leadership to deliver clear visibility into spend, drive savings, and enable smarter, faster decisions across the function.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

• Manage day-to-day operations of our e-billing platform (Brightflag), including matter setup, user management, invoice workflows, and integrations.
• Own the end-to-end Legal budget across outside counsel, software, professional services, travel, and operating expenses; lead annual planning and monthly forecasting.
• Build and maintain KPIs, dashboards, and reports to track spend, forecast accuracy, trends, and risks; translate insights into actions for Legal leadership.
• Oversee the full law firm lifecycle—from onboarding and billing guidelines to performance management, rate benchmarking, and savings enforcement.
• Implement best practices for invoice review, accruals, and global billing compliance; partner with AP, Tax, and Procurement to streamline payment procedures.
• Drive operational improvements through process design, documentation standards, automation, and AI-enabled efficiencies that reduce manual work.
• Lead training for internal teams and outside counsel on systems, billing standards, and matter management best practices.
• Serve as primary liaison for outside counsel billing inquiries and cross-practice administrative coordination; step into adjacent priorities as a versatile program owner.

• 3+ years in legal operations, legal financial management, paralegal, or comparable in-house role with ownership of complex, cross-functional workflows.
• Deep experience in budgeting, forecasting, accruals, spend management, vendor oversight, and e-billing platforms (Brightflag or similar).
• Advanced Excel skills for modeling and reporting; familiarity with Microsoft 365, Airtable, e-signature tools, Zip, Jira, and Slack.

The Commercial Legal Director in Japan will lead and manage all commercial legal matters within the organization, providing strategic legal advice to support business objectives. This role involves leading the Japan Legal team, managing team member(s), overseeing contract negotiations, managing legal risks related to commercial transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders including sales, procurement, other members of Box’s global legal team, and senior management. WHAT YOU'LL DO 

• Developing and implementing the Japan Legal strategy and procedures in line with the Global Legal team. 

• Organizing and establishing day-to-day management of the Japan Legal team member and processes in line with agreed objectives and the Japan GTM’s strategic plan.  

• Lead negotiation and drafting of complex commercial contracts to protect the company’s interests while enabling business growth. 

• Lead the provision of legal advice to the Japan Leadership Team and the team member in K.K. Box Japan’s business activities and in proffering solutions to legal issues, constraints, risks, options, consequences and approaches. 

• Collaborate with business leaders on updates and revisions to programs and Box policies where needed. 

• Review and sign-off of various legal templates including translation. 

• Carry out other tasks/projects assigned by Legal senior management or the　Japan Leadership team. 

• Mentor and guide the Japan Legal team member(s) to build capability within the department. 

WHO YOU ARE  

• Work experience in a law firm or the legal department of a commercial entity in Japan (more than 10 years) 

• Knowledge of Japanese law and some familiarity of Anglo-American law 

• Knowledge of Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information, GDPR and/or US privacy legislation is preferable. 

• Proven track record in negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts 

• Native level Japanese with the ability to communicate in English (business level) 

• Qualified lawyer or Legal educational background (law degree or law school graduate) 

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills 

• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities 

• Commercially minded with strong problem-solving abilities 

• Demonstrating leadership capabilities, including ability to manage team members to attain goals.
