WHY BOX NEEDS YOU?

The Content Capabilities team is relatively new and is tasked with the ambitious goal of supporting the Box Content Cloud’s next 10x wave of growth. We aim to achieve this by building innovative new platform capabilities, enabling our product teams and customers to build intuitive and differentiated experiences that scale to millions of users.
We’re close to delivering the first set of features, unlocking new use cases and significantly increasing the scale at which users can collaborate on content. The team is just getting started though and has a strong roadmap of new capabilities to build. That's where you come in!
As we embark on this journey, we're looking for a skilled Backend Software Engineer to join us and play an important role. You'll have the opportunity to work with a small team of talented, collaborative, and fun people, solving some of the toughest challenges in the content management space. The work you do will have an immediate impact on the productivity of millions of users, at some of the most important enterprises of our time.

WHAT YOU'LL DO?

• Work closely with engineering leadership to develop strategies for evolving the platform to its next generation.
• Collaborate with product management to help refine requirements, break down complex projects into meaningful, deliverable units and lead the effort.
• Design and implement scalable services with a focus on reliability, observability, operability and efficiency.
• Continually improve the current code base and infrastructure patterns.
• Work with cutting-edge technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, BigTable, Elasticsearch, Spark, and Istio.
• Mentor new engineers and interns, contribute to team growth and development.
• Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

WHO YOU ARE?

• 3+ years of professional software development experience building high-scale services.
• Strong coder with demonstrated proficiency in Java.
• You have experience designing, building, and deploying high quality software.
• You are excited about solving complex technical problems using data-driven solutions.
• You act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions.

Metadata is a key component of the Box Intelligent Cloud, enabling customers to add additional context to their files and transforming them into actionable content. In the current iteration, it's used to organize, discover, annotate, secure, and retain content. Metadata Platform adoption continues to grow exponentially as more Box products, like Shield, Relay, Forms, Sign, Governance, etc, rely on it internally and as our customers continue to build custom applications leveraging it.

But, we've only scratched the surface of what's possible. That's where you come in!

As we embark on the mission to deliver a next-generation Metadata Platform, we're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us and play a pivotal role. You'll have the opportunity to work with a team of talented, collaborative, and fun engineers, solving some of the toughest challenges, as we build out the future of intelligent content management in the cloud. WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design and implement scalable services with a focus on reliability, observability, operability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with partner teams and domain architects on system design and services integration.
• Be heavily involved in defining the vision and assembling feature roadmaps.
• Work with cutting-edge technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, BigTable, and Istio.
• Strengthen engineering processes, principles, and culture within the team and across Box, by championing a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and blameless retrospection.
• Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

WHO YOU ARE 

• You have 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficient in Java, familiarity with other scripting languages like Python, Scala or PHP is a plus.
• Proven ability to design, build, and deploy high-quality software.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, software design principles, and object-oriented programming.
• Skilled in designing and developing APIs.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB preferred.
• Passionate about new technologies with the capability to implement them in existing products.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice to Haves

• Experience working with message queues and/or streaming data systems like Kafka/PubSub.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Service (AWS) or Azure.
• Experience deploying and operating microservices on Kubernetes.
