About the role
The CX Tooling & Innovation team at Betterment is building the future of customer experience — and this role is the engine of that work.
As our Sr. CX Programs & Automation Manager, you'll own the full lifecycle of net-new AI initiatives across our customer support and operations ecosystem: from identifying the opportunity, building the business case, and driving implementation, through to launch and handoff.
This is a dedicated AI delivery role within our AI & Automation pod. You will not own BAU Zendesk maintenance or queue management. Your job is to ship AI that makes our customers' experience better and our agents' work more effective — and to do it with rigor, speed, and measurable outcomes. Your north star metrics: automation rate, AHT reduction, agent productivity, and customer satisfaction — every initiative you ship should move at least one of these.
This is a salaried, exempt role that is remote eligible, except for the New York City metro area, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, Washington, D.C., & Orange County, CA. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position in locations with city or state requirements. For those located elsewhere, the actual compensation offered will be based on candidate experience and geographic location. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.
Posting range: $130,000 - $160,000

A day in the life
- Build and maintain a multi-quarter AI roadmap aligned to CX/Ops OKRs — automation rate, AHT reduction, agent productivity, and coverage — and own prioritization, sequencing, and business case development for each initiative
- Translate CX and Ops pain points into structured AI use cases with clear hypotheses, success metrics, and implementation plans
- Lead delivery in partnership with the Chatbot Strategy Manager, Sr. Manager of Tooling, Analytics, and Engineering
- Drive agent adoption of AI tools (copilot, smart suggestions, AI summaries, auto-tagging) through change management and training
- Design and run experiments and A/B tests to validate AI performance before scaling
- Establish performance baselines and handoff documentation before transitioning live programs to the Sr. Analyst, AI Quality & Continuity
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Security to ensure responsible, policy-compliant AI deployment
- Represent CX AI priorities in cross-functional planning and vendor discussions
What we’re looking for
- 7–10+ years in CX operations, support product management, or technical program management
- Hands-on experience launching AI or automation in support environments — Zendesk AI, Intercom Fin, Decagon, or similar
- Strong product thinking: you can take an ambiguous problem, define a clear use case, and build the case for prioritization
- Analytical mindset: comfortable with experiment design, interpreting A/B results, and building performance baselines
- Excellent cross-functional collaborator — you've worked with Engineering, Analytics, Legal, and frontline ops teams to ship AI features
- Comfortable getting hands-on with AI and SaaS tooling — you're not just managing from a distance; you can configure, build, and iterate within platforms like Zendesk AI, Decagon, or similar without needing engineering support for every change
- Experience managing a portfolio of concurrent initiatives

A day in the life
- Deliver above-and-beyond customer service and experiences through phone, email, live chat, and social media channels
- Explain complex transactional and investment principles clearly, helping prospects and customers understand the benefits of our products
- Provide end-to-end customer support across all channels, helping customers with account setup, transactions, transfers, and product guidance on investments, goals, and cash offerings.
- Troubleshoot customer issues and concerns, investigating why they happened, and communicating with multiple teams to find rapid resolutions
- Act as the internal voice of the customer, offering insights to all areas of the business to help build a better product.
- Consistently achieve or exceed channel-specific benchmarks and SLAs for CSAT, handle time, and first contact resolution across phone, email, and chat by delivering clear, empathetic, and accurate support.
What we’re looking for
- Exceptional written communication skills and ability to build rapport - you will speak with our customers through email and in real-time over our live chat feature
- Interest in becoming a subject matter expert in finance and personal investing, including working with our higher-net-worth customers across all product lines.
- Technical savvy, specifically the ability to navigate multiple complex systems simultaneously to respond to customer inquiries
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to take the initiative to use available resources to find an answer to a customer’s problem and resolve escalations
- Customer service experience, including (but not limited to!) retail, call centers, restaurant industry, or other client relationship management
- Sound judgment, flexibility, and enthusiasm for shaping this evolving team through strong cross-functional partnerships and a willingness to learn the inner workings of Betterment.
- 40 hours per week as standard, may include weekends as required.

About the role
The CX Tooling & Innovation team at Betterment is responsible for the systems, AI programs, and automation that power our customer experience. Shipping AI is only half the job — keeping it performing is the other half.
As our CX Automation Performance Analyst, you own the post-launch life of our AI programs. You ensure that what gets launched keeps working, keeps improving, and is well-documented enough that the whole organization can benefit from it.
You'll serve as the primary administrator of net-new AI tooling (VoiceAI, Zendesk AI agents, and others) after launch, owning ongoing configuration, optimization, and performance management. This includes tuning AI agent behavior, updating knowledge sources, adjusting conversation flows, managing prompt configurations, and validating output quality on an ongoing basis.
In your first year, we expect every live AI program to have a performance dashboard with clear KPIs and a regular review cadence, an active optimization backlog producing measurable gains quarter over quarter, complete and current AI documentation being actively used across the organization, and no AI program drifting quietly — degradation is caught early and addressed with a clear plan.

A day in the life
- Build and maintain dashboards tracking performance across all live AI programs — automation rate, containment, AHT, CSAT, and model quality metrics — using tools like Zendesk Explore, Looker, or similar
- Identify performance degradation, intent gaps, hallucination, model drift, and guardrail failures across Zendesk AI, chatbots, ticketbots, and automation workflows
- Own the incident response process for AI quality issues — when performance degrades or a guardrail fails, you triage, escalate, and drive resolution with a clear post-mortem
- Serve as the primary admin for net-new AI tooling post-launch — including VoiceAI platforms, Zendesk AI agents, and any other tools handed off from the implementation phase
- Maintain active optimization backlogs for launched programs, ensuring improvements don't stall after initial implementation
- Drive post-launch iteration in partnership with the Chatbot Strategy Manager and tooling teams, tracking outcomes rigorously
- Own the AI program documentation library: runbooks, flow documentation, QA procedures, training guides, and internal knowledge base articles
- Maintain accurate records of AI program behavior, guardrails, and change history to support compliance and audit readiness
- Partner with the CX AI & Automation Manager during launch phases to establish performance baselines, define QA criteria, and ensure clean handoff documentation
- Build feedback loops from AI performance data to inform product, engineering, and CX leadership decisions — your insights should shape what gets built next, not just what gets fixed
What we’re looking for
- Hands-on experience analyzing performance data from AI or automation tools in a support environment
- Understanding of common AI failure modes — hallucination, model drift, guardrail gaps, and intent misclassification — and the ability to design QA processes that catch them before they reach customers
- Proficiency with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Zendesk Explore, Looker, Tableau, or similar) and comfortable writing queries to validate AI performance data
- Strong documentation skills — you write clearly, organize well, and build resources people actually use
- Analytical and detail-oriented: comfortable building dashboards, running QA analysis, and spotting patterns in messy data
- Experience with Zendesk (or comparable CX platforms) and AI tools such as Zendesk AI, Decagon, or similar
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry where AI outputs are subject to compliance review and audit
- A continuous improvement mindset and systems thinker — you see how knowledge structure, prompt design, monitoring, and feedback loops connect, and you're never satisfied with "it launched"

- Serve as a licensed resource for clients, providing expert guidance on portfolios, tax-advantaged strategies, and platform features while helping maximize adoption and engagement across their financial journey

About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sales Executive to join our team, focusing on the West Coast territory of the United States. This role is critical in driving growth within the advisor custody space by identifying, engaging, and closing new business with RIAs and financial advisory firms. As a key player in our sales team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver tailored solutions that meet the needs of our clients while expanding our market presence.
Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed below is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.
West Coast (Remote): Target OTE between $190,000 - $220,000

A day in the life:
- Business Development: Identify and pursue new sales opportunities with RIAs, financial advisors, and other wealth management firms within the West Coast region
- Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain long-term relationships with prospective and existing clients, acting as a trusted partner to help them leverage Betterment Advisor Solutions’ custody solutions
- Sales Strategy: Develop and execute a sales strategy that aligns with company goals, market demands, and client needs, ensuring consistent performance in meeting or exceeding revenue targets
- Territory Management: Proactively manage your sales pipeline, identifying and prioritizing key opportunities within the West Coast territory, while managing time effectively across a wide geographic region
- Collaboration: Work closely with the product, marketing, and customer success teams to ensure a seamless experience for clients and prospects, from first contact through onboarding
- Market Expertise: Stay current on trends and regulatory changes in the advisor custody space, with a particular focus on the needs and challenges of RIAs and financial advisors in the West Coast
- Reporting & Forecasting: Provide regular updates on sales activities, including pipeline updates, revenue forecasts, and competitive intelligence, to senior leadership
What we’re looking for:
- Experience: 5+ years of sales experience in the financial services industry, with a strong background in advisor custody or related sectors (e.g., RIA platforms, custodians, asset management, fintech solutions)
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth and building relationships with RIAs and financial advisory firms
- Knowledge of Advisor Custody: Deep understanding of the advisor custody landscape, including regulatory requirements, operational challenges, and competitive offerings
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex solutions in a clear and compelling manner
- Relationship-Building: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport and trust quickly with clients
- Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and drive results in a remote, territory-based role
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using CRM software (e.g., Salesforce), presentation tools, and other technology platforms essential to the sales process
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with RIAs or wealth management firms in the West Coast region
- Familiarity with the Betterment Advisor Solutions platform and/or digital advisory solutions
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field
