About the role

We are looking for a Senior Reliability Lab Operation Engineer who will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of laboratory equipment, complex problem analysis, and technical improvement, and participation in the development of reliability test equipment and test fixtures. The engineer will ensure the laboratory operates efficiently, stably, and with low risk through institutionalized and engineering means, providing reliable experimental platform support for the R&D, verification, and mass production of POS terminal products.

This position requires a deep understanding of mechatronic consumer systems, strong development skills, and proven ability to lead and collaborate in cross-functional team environments and in supplier management. In this role, you will manage contract workers (CWs) to meet the needs of laboratory operational excellence.

What you will do

1. Laboratory Operation and Equipment Full Lifecycle Management

• Fully responsible for the planning, operation, and continuous optimization of reliability lab equipment;
• Core equipment under management includes, but is not limited to:
• Environmental reliability equipment: High/low temperature, temperature and humidity, thermal shock, temperature/humidity cycling equipment, etc.;
• Electronic testing and measurement equipment: Data acquisition systems, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, multimeters, sensors, and data loggers;
• Develop and implement equipment full lifecycle management strategies.

2. Maintenance, Repair, and Calibration System Development

• Lead and execution of the annual maintenance, repairing, and calibration plans for laboratory equipment;
• Deeply participate in the analysis of complex equipment failures and technical decision-making, leading internal and external technical reviews when necessary;
• Standardize the instrument calibration management process to ensure the accuracy and consistency of test data;
• Establish and continuously optimize management systems and technical documents for equipment maintenance, repair, and calibration.

3. Reliability Test Equipment and Fixture Development

• Participate in or lead the customized development or modification of reliability test equipment to meet POS product testing needs;
• Collaborate on the design and development of reliability test tooling and fixtures (structural or electrical);
• Promote standardization, modularization, and reusability design for test equipment and fixtures.

4. Risk Control and Technical Improvement

• Identify technical risks in laboratory equipment operation and reliability testing processes;
• Formulate and implement preventive maintenance and risk control programs to enhance overall equipment reliability;
• Analyze the impact of equipment issues on test results and product reliability, and propose systemic improvement suggestions.

5. Supplier and Cross-Departmental Collaboration

• Act as the technical interface, liaising with equipment manufacturers and third-party maintenance/calibration service providers;
• Evaluate supplier technical capabilities and service quality, and drive continuous improvement;
• Closely cooperate with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing departments to ensure the smooth execution of reliability testing plans.

6. Systems, Audits, and Technical Support

• Participate as a core engineer in internal systems and customer audits (such as requirements related to ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025);
• Provide technical evaluation and equipment feasibility analysis for new laboratory projects and test methods;
• Provide technical guidance and experience sharing for managing junior engineers or technicians.

2. Technical Skills

The work is in a highly collaborative and multi- functional environment, handling several projects at a time. The successful candidate will be an experienced Quality engineer who ideally has Mechanical, Electrical and Hardware Quality Assurance expertise and will be experienced in Quality management systems, Data analysis techniques and quality assurance methodologies.

This position is based in Shenzhen, requiring frequent business travel to our manufacturing partners in Vietnam and other Contract Manufacturers (CMs) across China. You will be responsible for OEM product quality from new product introduction through sustaining. You will foster and build an excellent communication and working relationship with our global Stripe partners.

• Define and implement BBPOS quality management in OEM factories.
• Establish a system of quality metrics to continually drive and supervise measurable quality at OEM.

• Define and implement Quality assurance processes for our in house developed Hardware solutions (both for our Shop floor system Hardware and for BBPOS Product Test & Diagnostic bundles).

• Understand product and process CTQ and implement control plans to monitor these CTQ’s and prevent quality excursions or quality incidents.

Who you are

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Manufacturing Process Engineer who has great expertise in enabling design and achieving a high level of manufacturing performance and quality and maintaining this level of performance throughout a product’s life. This is someone who has significant experience of working with the R & D team to enable & optimize design and defining manufacturing processes on-site at electronic manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys critical thinking and problem solving, can successfully partner with a wide variety of stakeholders and is willing to dive deep.

This role will be based in Shenzhen. A significant amount of this person’s time will be spent on-site at partner contract manufacturing facilities.  

What you’ll do

You will lead the development, validation, optimization, and documentation of production processes across both final assembly (FATP) and key components manufacturing.

• Led hardware assembly processes development, including but not limited to PSA activation, adhesive dispensing, heat staking, screwing, ultrasonic/laser welding, and the design of semi-auto and fully automated assembly lines.
• Extensive experience in the FATP process, with deep expertise in assembly technical requirements, tolerance analysis, and critical quality control points for electronic components (PCBA, modules, and mechanical parts).
• Led Process DFM initiatives, providing critical feedback to R&D/Engineering during the concept phase to ensure design and manufacturing feasibility and cost effectiveness.
• Perform deep-dive failure analysis on manufacturing-related issues. Utilize PFMEA to mitigate risks before mass production.
• Drive process innovation and develop MP-intent equipment. 
• Implement continuous improvement strategies using Six Sigma or Lean methodologies to maximize yields and reduce manufacturing costs.
• Travel to vendor sites to lead NPI builds. Use statistical tools (such as JMP or Minitab) to analyze DoE (Design of Experiments) data and validate process stability (Cpk/PPK).
• Partner with Hardware Engineering, GSM, and Quality teams to identify, audit, and select contract manufacturers capable of meeting technical requirements.

Minimum requirements

• 15+ years’ experience in manufacturing engineering, possessing knowledge of design for manufacturing, assembly process engineering 
• Strong track record of implementing manufacturing improvements through DFM and DFx principles.
• Knowledge of GD&T principles and use, ability to analyze and understand part tolerance and tolerance stack up and their impact on assembly and component production.
• Experience leading design and implementing manufacturing jigs/fixtures and process flows.
• Possessing the interpersonal skills and experience needed to work with CM teams and management in a collaborative way to meet development schedules and mass-production deliveries.
• Working knowledge on quality management tools (e.g., six sigma, lean production, etc.)  and ability to interpret quality reports.
• Fluency in Chinese and English.

• Mechanical design experience is strong plus
• Experience working in consumer electronics.
• Experience with POS hardware development and manufacturing including knowledge of tamper-proofing systems, and components for POS devices.

We are looking for a Head of Hardware Operations. This person is a senior leader who has extensive experience leading their team in the new product development, manufacturing ramp and sustained production of high volume products.  They possess the meticulous attention to detail that is needed to plan production and material readiness to ensure on-time delivery to aggressive forecasts. They have experience managing both the execution of and relationship with large contract manufacturing partners and components suppliers. This person will ensure that the cost of our products meet targets and drive even lower than that. The Supply Chain Lead will ultimately ensure that our supply chain excels in delivery of supply, flexibility and cost while doing so in a way that meets our quality bar. 

A significant amount of this person’s time will be spent on-site at partner contract manufacturing facilities across the APAC region. 

In this role you will lead your team in in the following areas:

• Defining and driving the overall Supply Chain strategy from supplier risk management to component inventory planning to manufacturing planning.  Specific areas of focus include:
  • Ensuring supply of our products to forecast through effective management of our supply chain and our contract manufacturer partners, particularly through implementation of best practice tools such as factory capacity models, factory input/output production plans and material clear to build files.
  • Effectively managing end of life materials in a way that ensures product supply at a minimal risk to product quality. Ensure that the team has last-time buy opportunities and that the cross-functional engineering team is informed in sufficient time to implement alternate components.    
• Being a critical loop in our forecasting process. Ensure that the extended hardware team has understanding of lead times so proper expectations can be set regarding the ability to meet forecast upsides. Influence forecast adjustments as needed during NPI and sustained production based on our supply chains ability to deliver.
• Implementing tactics and strategies that allow for forecast flexibility, particularly upside. 
• Driving the lowest possible unit cost and NRE for our devices and programs through effective sourcing strategies, influence in the design of products and ultimately negotiation with our suppliers.
• Negotiating master supply and development contracts with our CM and supplier partners and the associated statements of work. These agreements will include things such as pricing, NRE costs, liability and material buffering.
• Being a strong partner to our quality teams to ensure our products meet quality targets. Drive manufacturing and supplier partners to implement all needed quality systems and resources.
• Communication with and managing the cross functional team to meet dates needed to ensure that we can ramp new programs to schedule so we can meet our supply commitments to the business. This includes driving the engineering and program management teams to meet design build exit dates and the quality team to complete reliability testing per schedule.
• Managing our corporate responsibility and environmental safety approach with suppliers. 
• In addition to leading the Supply Chain Management team, this role will also be responsible for leading the NPI Operations, Manufacturing Test Engineering (MTE), and Manufacturing Process Engineering (MPE) teams.  

Minimum requirements

• 15+ years experience leading teams in the new product ramp and sustained production of products in high volume manufacturing in the consumer electronics or adjacent space.
• Knowledge of and proven implementation of best tools to manage manufacturing output including factory line balancing and capacity models, production input/output reports and material clear to build (CTB) files.
• Experience working with and strong knowledge of final assembly and test, pack-out, and SMT production processes. 
• Strong knowledge of component manufacturing processes such as injection molding, battery pack, PCB fabrication and display assembly.
• The interpersonal skills and experience needed to work with CM teams and management in a collaborative way to meet development schedules and mass-production deliveries.
• A proven track record of driving lowest product cost and product cost reductions through using comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and component roadmaps to conduct effective negotiations. 
• Experience in negotiating contracts with contract manufacturers and vendors for supply and development activities. 
• Deep experience in new product development and introduction. A strong understanding of what is required of each phase of development (EVT, DVT, etc.) and when key forward looking decisions need to be made - i.e. components risks buys and factory equipment purchases.  
• A working understanding of manufacturing test and manufacturing process engineering. Having the ability to establish a rapport with engineering teams to ensure that design for manufacturability is incorporated into designs. 
• Fluency in Chinese and English
