You’ll be part of an engineering team, participate in multiple activities to develop features of Axon’s camera products from inception, through design, development, and release. You live and breathe device software that require high stability and fast, consistent performance. You love working with the latest open source technologies, and can leverage your system design skills to make the right technical decisions on a system that needs to be bullet-proof.
Not only can you drive decisions among competing engineering trade-offs, your empathy with customers allows you to intuit innovative solutions for our customer problems. You will be working closely with product managers and designers to ensure we are building the right solution for our customers. You also enjoy mentoring other engineers, and love to be a hands-on teacher helping to up level the engineers around you as of a senior engineer.

Work Location: This role is based out of our Ho Chi Minh Office and follows a hybrid schedule. As the Engineering Manager for Mobile, you will lead and grow the team that designs the technology powering Axon Device Manager, Axon Device Checkout, and the Fleet 3 Dashboard—mobile IoT applications that connect Axon devices to officers in the field, promoting transparency and protecting truth worldwide. You'll collaborate daily with software engineers, product managers, designers, and a Release Manager to turn bold product concepts into secure, reliable mobile and frontend experiences. Your deep expertise in Android, iOS, or modern frontend development (React, TypeScript), along with broad knowledge of modern application architecture, release practices, and observability, will enable you to set technical direction, unblock delivery, and raise the bar on code quality and system design. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, you'll lead a team of engineers in Vietnam while partnering closely with peer engineering leaders and product teams in the U.S., fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning that accelerates feature velocity without compromising quality and stability.

Your Impact
As a member of the Video Electrical Engineering Sustaining team, you will play a key role in maintaining, debugging, qualifying, and improving the electronics designs behind Axon’s in-market video products. Not only can you drive decisions among competing engineering trade-offs, your empathy with customers allows you to intuit innovative solutions for our customer problems. You will be working closely with product managers and designers to ensure we are building the right solution for our customers. You also enjoy mentoring other engineers, and love to be a hands-on teacher helping to up level the engineers around you as of a senior engineer.

The starting base pay for this role is between USD 162,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 259,200 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors. As a Staff Embedded Software Engineer, you will lead critical software engineering initiatives and set the strategic technical direction across multiple embedded product lines, including body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, stationary cameras, drones, and emerging connected device solutions. Your role involves defining and significantly advancing embedded software architectures and ensuring system-wide excellence in stability, scalability, security, and performance.
You will proactively identify technical opportunities and risks, guiding architectural decisions to future-proof our products against complex operational environments. Your strategic oversight will involve collaboration with executives, directors, managers and cross-functional teams, deeply influencing Axon’s broader software engineering organization. Your mentorship will uplift engineers across multiple teams, driving Axon’s mission-critical standards and technical excellence.
In this role, you will also shape Axon’s approach to applied artificial intelligence on connected devices, influencing how AI models are trained, deployed, evaluated, and deployed across the device and cloud ecosystem. You will help define scalable and responsible AI architectures that balance model performance, operational constraints, safety, and real-world reliability, ensuring AI-driven capabilities can be trusted in mission-critical environments.
