The Opportunity

Auros is seeking a highly motivated and proactive Trader with 2+ years of trading experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong hunger for trading, a keen eye for identifying profitable opportunities, and a relentless drive to maximise returns. While exposure to cryptocurrency markets is highly regarded, it is not strictly required. This role demands sharp analytical skills, quick decision-making under pressure, and a competitive mindset.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with quantitative researchers, developers and other traders to refine existing strategies and develop new trading models.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our trading systems and processes.
• Investigate market trends and real-time data to analyse, inform, and adapt trading strategies.
• Manage risk effectively within the trading portfolio, demonstrating a strong understanding of risk and reward patterns.
• Proactively research new market opportunities and pricing inefficiencies, utilising data analysis and market microstructure insights.
• Optimise trading algorithms and infrastructure to enhance performance and efficiency.

Who You Are

Our ideal candidate will have:

• 2+ years of proven algorithmic trading experience with a track record of profitability, ideally in D1 and/or options.
• A strong, demonstrable hunger for trading and an entrepreneurial mindset, constantly seeking new challenges and responsibilities.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively within a team environment and articulating complex ideas.
• Exceptional analytical and quantitative reasoning skills, with a superior ability to identify and interpret patterns in large datasets.
• Ability to make quick and decisive decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, acting and performing successfully under minimal supervision.
• A proactive attitude in identifying and pursuing new trading opportunities, with a desire to push research in new and unknown directions.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to develop trading strategies within the cryptocurrency markets. We are looking for someone to work with our traders, in person at our Asia HQ in Hong Kong. 

You will be embedded into the trading team, working closely with quants and traders to develop, implement, and optimize trading strategies using C++ that will trade cryptocurrency on various exchanges across the globe.

• Transform trading opportunities into profits. That is, improve and invent trading and market making strategies while minding risk and any market-making obligations. You will oversee the entire process, including problem identification, analysing data, writing software, and providing ongoing support.
• Improve and develop systems for automated monitoring of 24/7/365 trading.
• Develop C++ and Python applications that leverage internally-developed, normalised interfaces for market data and order execution.
• Work with both existing codebases and new ones.
• Collaborate closely with others. The business, development, and trading teams regularly work in concert with each other.
• Monitor trading, especially of new algorithms, and ensure that our systems are performing as desired from a technical, risk, and profit perspective.
• Use your experience working directly with trading teams to identify and surface opportunities to improve Auros’s technical systems and architecture.
• Engage with the team during system design discussions, code reviews, trading idea brainstorms, and general banter.

Who you are

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, a passion for financial markets, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience developing high-performance trading strategies for trading and especially market making in traditional or cryptocurrency markets.
• Experience with low latency trading algorithms, market making and/or high frequency arbitrage, including an understanding of risks associated with managing a portfolio.
• At least five years of experience in developing clean, maintainable, and performant code in C++ on Linux.
• Experience with latency-optimised, distributed systems that are built to robustly handle many transactions.
• Ability to find a balance between delivering clean, testable, reliable code and rapidly deploying new system features to take advantage of market opportunities.
• You are reliable, take pride in delivering robust software, and willing to be on call to support the systems you develop.

Highly Desirable:

• A thorough understanding of network programming, namely UDP, TCP, TLS, and Websockets.
• Experience profiling C++ code with any of Cachegrind, Valgrind or other profiling tools.
• Experience configuring and monitoring Linux machines.
• Experience with inter-process messaging via shared memory.
• Experience with cloud computing infrastructure such as AWS.

What you’ll do

Reporting to a senior trader, you’ll gain exposure to front, middle and back office functions so you can understand the end-to-end flow of the trading function. The right candidate will aspire to develop into a Senior Trader and manage his/her book.

Key responsibilities:

• Participate in the research and development of new trading strategies
• Engage in quantitative analytical work to support the improvement of our existing trading strategies
• Participate in idea generation, trading strategy formulation, back-testing and implementation
• Monitor and analyse the operation of live trading strategies
• Liaise with our key exchange counterparts on margin requirements, coin borrows, trade breaks, market-making requirements
• Work closely with our trading, middle office and finance teams to ensure trades are booked timely and correctly, reconciled between our front and back office systems
• Investigate crypto-currency market-related products, collect, organize and analyse the best solutions to match the requirements of our various trading strategies

Skills required:

• No experience in trading or crypto is required, but passion, drive, and interest in the industry is a must.
• A Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Maths, Engineering or a minor in any quantitative-related degree  
• Experience using Python/C++, in combination with a variety of other data manipulation technologies, including Excel.
• Knowledge and experience in mathematical modelling of big data, data mining and machine learning is a plus.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Self-starter with a high level of initiative and a strong drive to succeed.
• Ability to adapt to new challenges and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
