Job Summary:

We are seeking a proactive and execution-focused Project Manager to drive cross-functional coordination and ensure the successful development and launch of new hardware products. This role is responsible for maintaining project schedules, identifying risks early, and driving timely resolution across engineering, operations, and supply chain teams in the U.S. and Asia.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced hardware environment, with strong ownership of project execution, product readiness, and retailer compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and task tracking to ensure clear visibility of project timelines and ownership.
• Proactively identify risks, delays, or execution gaps, provide early warning, and drive timely resolution or escalation when needed.
• Drive cross-functional execution across hardware, firmware, mechanical engineering, operations, and supply chain teams in the U.S. and Asia.
• Ensure clear communication, accountability, and follow-through on project priorities, deliverables, and timelines.
• Support new SKU setup by collecting required product, packaging, and system information. 
• Track hardware or design changes through trial runs, monitor results, and coordinate issue resolution to ensure readiness for production.
• Coordinate packaging updates, including regulatory and compliance information changes.
• Track regulatory, certification, and retailer compliance activities to ensure launch readiness.
• Lead and coordinate the execution of retailer compliance requirements, including factory audits and operational mandates
• Continuously improve project workflows and communication processes to enhance execution efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

• 3–5 years of experience managing new product development projects from concept through production, preferably in consumer electronics or hardware-related industries.
• Strong project management and execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to proactively identify risks, drive resolution, and maintain accountability for timelines and deliverables.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills across global teams.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision.
• Experience working with global teams, especially in Asia-based manufacturing or engineering environments, is highly preferred.
• Flexibility to collaborate across time zones.
• Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Notion, Jira, or similar). Comfortable using AI tools to improve productivity, streamline workflows, and support proactive project management.
• Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese (required).
• PMP certification or equivalent project management training is a plus.

Our frame runs an Android app that shares code with our mobile app, providing a connected way for us to build new features and fix bugs. Our web app and the ability to email photos to the frames also provide key connectivity touch points for our customers.

Overview: Aura is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Frame Platform Team, responsible for the Android-based software experience that powers our connected frame products. In this role, you will primarily work on the platform application — the core system app that defines the Aura product experience — as well as the services that keep our devices up to date and running reliably in the field. You'll work within a vendor-customized Android environment, collaborating closely with product, firmware, and backend teams to deliver a polished, resilient platform. The ideal candidate is a strong Android engineer who is equally comfortable architecting user-facing platform features and building the robust background services that support them, as well as not afraid to dive deeper in the Android system to debug platform issues.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and evolve the core platform application —  from architecture through delivery.
• Design and implement Android system services and background processes that support device lifecycle management, including OTA update delivery, installation orchestration, and rollback handling.
• Work within a vendor-customized AOSP environment, understanding how platform-level configurations and system app permissions shape application behavior.
• Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams to integrate new device capabilities into the platform app and associated services.
• Drive quality through thorough testing practices — unit, integration, and end-to-end — and establish patterns that raise the bar across the team.
• Lead technical design discussions, write clear design documents, and participate in code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
• Mentor and support other engineers on the team, contributing to a culture of craft, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of Android development experience
• Strong proficiency in Java and Kotlin
• Solid understanding of the Android platform — application lifecycle, inter-process communication (Binder/AIDL), system services, and permissions model.
• Experience building and owning background services, including WorkManager, foreground services, broadcast receivers, and related Android primitives.
• Demonstrated ability to own large, complex features end-to-end across design, implementation, testing, and production monitoring.
• Strong communication skills; comfortable driving technical discussions and writing design documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience shipping software for Android-based consumer hardware products 
• Exposure to AOSP build system (Soong), system app development, and platform-signed APK integration.
• Experience with device management or fleet operations concepts — staged rollouts, forced update policies, device health monitoring.
• Comfort reading and navigating AOSP source to understand platform behavior, even if not actively modifying it day-to-day.
• Experience with backend integration for device services — REST/gRPC APIs, push messaging, or device telemetry pipelines.
• Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced hardware/software product environment.

• Architect and implement sharding in our PostgreSQL backed Rails api
• Lead initiatives to improve system reliability, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response
• Reduce application and database costs

Qualifications:

• Deep experience scaling consumer applications and infrastructure to tens of millions of users
• Experience in low-latency async distributed systems
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including compute, storage, networking, and database services
• Experience at a startup with fewer than 100 employees
• 10+ years of relevant experience
• Strong coding skills in Ruby, Python, or similar languages
• Hands-on experience with reliability engineering practices: SLIs, SLOs, monitoring, alerting, and incident management
