The O&G Party Chief supervises the activities, safety compliance, and policy compliance of the field crew personnel under his/her direction.  The responsibilities of the O&G Party Chief include performing the assigned survey tasks in a safe, effective, and efficient manner that results in consistently thorough and accurate survey data.  

 Key Responsibilities:

• Perform topographic surveys, mapping surveys, boundary surveys, route surveys (including pipelines and transmission lines), construction staking, and as-built surveys.
• Utilize and maintain surveying equipment, including total stations, automatic levels, Trimble RTK systems, data collectors, and other specialized tools.
• Lead and oversee survey party members, evaluate survey progress, and ensure surveys adhere to company procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining work-issued vehicles, laptops, and survey equipment.
• Maintain detailed and organized field notes, create field sketches, draw isometric drawings, and capture site photographs in accordance with our standard procedures.
• Ensure all surveying equipment is in optimal working condition, with timely calibration and adjustments as needed.
• Collect and document survey data accurately, thoroughly, and comprehensively using assigned survey equipment.
• Download data, record notes, sketches, pictures, and more at the end of each workday. Enter time, expenses, safety documents, and other administrative records as required.
• Assist with your crew member’s new hire training plan, career planning, and continuous professional development at Atwell.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of survey experience as a Party Chief.
• A strong background in surveying techniques and equipment operation. This experience must include all aspects of pipeline surveying.
• Proficiency in maintaining and using various surveying tools, Trimble preferred.
• Leadership skills to guide survey party members.
• Exceptional documentation and reporting abilities.
• Diligence in equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Hold a valid Driver's License and pass drug screening.

This position will be based out of West Texas, primarily in Odessa/Midland.

Atwell is seeking a Director, Hydrocarbons Operations to help establish and grow our presence in Midland, Texas. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone who can help build a practice in one of the most important energy markets in the country.

We are open to leaders coming from either a Survey background or an Engineering background, as long as they bring strong experience supporting oil and gas, pipeline, facilities, and broader hydrocarbon projects. The ideal person will be someone who can lead teams, grow client relationships, oversee project execution, and help expand Atwell’s footprint across West Texas.

This role is well suited for a proven leader who wants to help shape strategy, build a team, and play a major role in the continued growth of our Hydrocarbons business.

What You’ll Do

Practice Leadership and Growth

• Help establish and lead Atwell’s Hydrocarbons presence in the Midland market
• Build and grow a local practice supporting oil and gas, CO2, hydrogen, RNG, pipeline, and facilities projects
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical professionals across survey, engineering, design, and project delivery
• Partner with executive leadership on growth strategy, staffing plans, and service expansion
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and strong client service

Client Development and Market Expansion

• Serve as a key client-facing leader for hydrocarbon-related pursuits in West Texas
• Identify, develop, and win new business opportunities across upstream, midstream, and related energy infrastructure markets
• Strengthen existing client relationships while building new partnerships with operators, developers, and industry stakeholders
• Support proposals, presentations, pricing strategy, and contract negotiations
• Represent Atwell in the market as a trusted partner and technical leader

Project Oversight and Execution

• Oversee successful delivery of projects, ensuring quality, schedule, budget, and client expectations are met
• Support projects involving pipelines, compressor stations, meter stations, storage assets, facilities, and related field development infrastructure
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to drive efficient project execution
• Support forecasting, utilization, staffing, and operational performance across the practice
• Monitor project health, identify risks early, and implement solutions to keep projects moving successfully

Technical and Operational Leadership

• Provide senior-level guidance on hydrocarbon project execution from either a survey or engineering perspective
• Act as a bridge between technical teams, operations, and client stakeholders
• Bring practical understanding of how field execution, technical design, and client needs come together on energy projects
• Support quality control, technical review, and process improvement efforts
• Help identify opportunities to improve service delivery and expand capabilities in the region

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Surveying, or a related technical field preferred
• 10+ years of progressive experience supporting oil and gas, hydrocarbon, pipeline, facilities, or energy infrastructure projects
• Demonstrated success in a leadership role involving team development, project oversight, and client relationship management
• Strong understanding of hydrocarbon project execution, whether from a survey, engineering, or multidisciplinary operations background
• Proven business development experience and the ability to grow client relationships in a competitive market
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities effectively
• Familiarity with the Midland / West Texas market is strongly preferred
• Professional licensure such as RPLS, PE, or similar is highly valued depending on background
