Role Overview
Our Lead Combustion Engineer serves as the technical authority pioneering our rocket-inspired, high-pressure oxy-fuel combustion systems - integral in delivering carbon-neutral and carbon-negative power cycles at scale.
In this leadership role, you’ll own the combustion subsystem, guiding a talented team through end-to-end development of breakthrough, high-efficiency devices in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment. You’ll drive strategy from clean-sheet concepts and advanced modeling through hands-on testing, rapid iteration, and performance validation, establishing the technical direction that powers a sustainable future.
You’ll mentor junior engineers, align cross-functional efforts with test, analysis, and design teams, and make critical trade-off decisions to accelerate progress while pushing the boundaries of efficiency and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Serve as technical lead for oxy-fuel combustion systems: own architecture, clean-sheet design, rigorous analysis, and delivery of breakthrough performance
- Define and lead high-pressure/high-temperature test campaigns—from planning and execution through in-depth data analysis and actionable recommendations
- Direct system configuration trades and performance optimization to achieve maximum efficiency, reliability, and scalability
- Own rapid hardware development cycles—from manufacturing and assembly through testing and iterative improvements
- Champion the use of additive manufacturing, modern CFD/tools, and advanced simulation to shorten timelines and enable innovation
- Mentor team members, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and implement design upgrades that elevate system capability
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, chemical engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in combustion system design, analysis, and testing
- Deep expertise in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and combustion
- Hands-on experience with high-temperature and pressure equipment
- Strong leadership presence with experience mentoring engineers and influencing cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to own product lifecycle from conceptual design to validation
- Curious, inventive, and entrepreneurial mindset—thrives in ambiguity and drives progress relentlessly
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering
- Direct experience leading hot-fire testing campaigns in rocket propulsion, gas turbines, or similar environments
- Proficiency in programming for data analysis and automation (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
- Prior success in startup or fast-paced hardware development environments

Role Overview
From conceptual design and modeling to hands-on testing and rapid iteration, you'll own the full hardware lifecycle.
Responsibilities

- Comprehensive understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
- Hands-on experience with high-temperature and pressure equipment
- Demonstrated ability to own the product lifecycle from conceptual design to validation
- Curious, inventive, and entrepreneurial mindset comfortable driving progress
Preferred Qualifications

Role Overview
We’re seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to drive the design, development, and optimization of high-pressure solids feed and removal systems—critical systems enabling reliable biomass delivery and ash management in our novel high-pressure gasification platform for carbon-negative power cycles.
In this role, you’ll own end-to-end development of robust, high-reliability solids handling hardware in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment. From conceptual design and mechatronic integration through prototyping, testing, rapid iteration, and validation, you’ll deliver solutions that ensure continuous, clog-free operation under extreme pressure and temperature conditions.
You’ll collaborate closely with gasification, test, and controls engineers, providing technical expertise on critical decisions to accelerate progress while maximizing system uptime, flexibility, and overall carbon impact.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, analysis, and integration of high-pressure solids feed (e.g., lock hoppers, screw feeders) and removal (e.g., ash extraction, filtration) systems
- Develop mechatronic solutions combining mechanical design, actuation, sensing, and control logic for reliable solids transport in harsh environments
- Perform sizing calculations, 3D modeling, structural/FEA analysis, and flow modeling for solids handling components and assemblies
- Plan, execute, and analyze solids flow tests and integrated high-pressure test campaigns, driving rapid learning and iteration
- Lead hardware development cycles—from detailed design and procurement through manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and performance upgrades
- Leverage additive manufacturing, modern actuators/sensors, and automation tools to accelerate innovation and improve system robustness
- Propose and implement continuous improvements to eliminate bottlenecks, enhance safety, and increase operational reliability
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and testing solids handling, feeding, or conveyance systems (preferably under high pressure/temperature)
- Strong expertise in mechanical design, actuation, sensing, controls integration, and materials selection for abrasive/corrosive environments
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks/NX preferred), FEA, and GD&T; experience generating fabrication drawings and BOMs
- Proven ability to own technical development of complex hardware from concept through validation in fast-paced settings
- Demonstrated track record of delivering reliable mechatronic systems with minimal downtime
- Curious, inventive, and entrepreneurial mindset—thrives in ambiguity and drives practical solutions forward
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering

- Hands-on experience integrating PLCs, sensors, and control loops for automation
- Proficiency in programming/scripting for data analysis, automation, or control (Python, MATLAB, Ladder Logic, etc.)
- Background in startup or agile hardware development environments

Role Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Combustion team to own the 3D design of high-temperature, high-pressure hardware from concept through fabrication. You’ll collaborate closely with combustion engineers, analysts, and test engineers to develop practical, test-ready systems. Your work will leverage metal additive manufacturing, precision machining, and algorithmic design techniques to push the boundaries of modern fabrication.
Responsibilities
- Lead detailed 3D modeling of complex components and assemblies.
- Apply Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Create complete drawing packages with GD&T, assembly documentation, and bill of materials (BOMs).
- Translate engineering requirements into practical, buildable designs.
- Generate work instructions and collaborate with technicians during builds and test campaigns.
- Continuously iterate based on feedback from analysis, testing, and fabrication.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related Engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design of high-performance systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Siemens NX preferred; others such as SolidWorks or Creo also acceptable).
- Experience producing fully detailed drawing packages including GD&T and manufacturing specs.
- Experience with additive manufacturing and DfAM principles.
- Understanding of additive constraints: overhang angles, support strategy, build orientation, powder removal, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to material behavior and surface finish considerations in high-temperature AM alloys (e.g., Inconel 625/718, Hastelloy, Haynes).
- Familiarity with FEA or fluid/thermal analysis workflows.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced, hands-on R&D or startup environment.
- Exposure to combustion systems, high-temperature materials, or pressure vessels.

Role Overview
We're looking for a Combustion Analysis Engineer to perform fluid, thermal, and structural analyses on our novel combustion systems—bringing high-performance engineering to the fight against climate change. You'll work closely with combustion engineers and designers to inform and accelerate development using advanced simulation tools, algorithmic workflows, and additive manufacturing. Your work will help bridge modeling and reality through system integration and hot-fire test validation.
Responsibilities
- Perform CFD, transient thermal, and structural analyses on combustion hardware.
- Collaborate with combustion and mechanical engineers to develop practical, testable designs.
- Use integrated system models to inform design direction and support performance prediction.
- Help anchor simulation results with hot-fire test data and iterate models accordingly.
- Contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative team with a focus on climate-impactful technology.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.
- 3+ years of experience in fluid dynamics, CFD, structural and transient thermal analysis.
- Strong foundation in compressible and incompressible fluid mechanics.
- Experience with ANSYS Mechanical or similar analysis suites.
- Proficient in Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting tools for automation and post-processing.
- Strong ownership mentality and eagerness to work collaboratively in a small, dynamic team.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in propulsion or combustion analysis.
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience working in startup or agile development environments.
- Familiarity with conjugate heat transfer simulations.
- Interest in or ability to lead and grow a small analysis team over time.
