ABOUT THE JOB

We’re seeking a Technical Program Manager to ensure interoperability and integration of our software and hardware across our Menace product line. You will also have the opportunity to work on net new products, ideating on prototypes and take to market strategies. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, program management experience, customer focus, and an understanding of the defense sector and military systems. You will work closely with engineering, product, business, and government stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions that meet the needs of our customers and partners.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Able to inspire, influence and drive the engineering execution of multiple teams. Gain alignment within the team and regularly with other teams/stakeholders involved with the product/program
• Effectively communicate within engineering teams, manipulating PM tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence) to organize and run multiple teams' sprints/regular execution cadence and ensure the teams understand how their work connects to higher level milestones. Generate and speak to planning artifacts and high-level engineering artifacts for multiple teams. Succinctly message progress, risks, and mitigations to team-adjacent leadership/stakeholders
• Understand the architecture and positively influence engineering decisions of multiple products or functional areas. Able to engage with cross-functional teams (e.g. SW, HW, T&E, Product)
• Act in a leadership role for the team and coordinate closely with leaders or cross-functional stakeholders. Create clear understanding within the team, and with cross-functional stakeholders, about team and program goals/milestones
• Discover inefficiencies in team operations and develop durable solutions to improve the day-to-day life of developers. Build and manage 6-12 month roadmaps, creating clear milestones utilizing inputs from cross-functional stakeholders
• Routinely engage with external stakeholders to surface and clarify pain points and solve problems related to operating prototypes. Deploy and support prototypes in the field at customer events
• Regularly assist and teach other engineers, act as legacy SME
• Keep up to date with industry technologies and identify technologies that would be applicable to defense problems

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 5 years experience as a Technical Program Manager, Product Manager, Engineering Manager, or Engineer for a commercial technology or aerospace and defense company
• Strong technical background with familiarity in systems engineering, software development, networking, and hardware engineering
• Experience shepherding complex technical projects from concept to prototype to full-rate production
• Ability to work within organizations with minimal structure and with minimal direction
• Proven client-facing technical program management and/or systems engineering experience
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical issues into business-impact insights
• Experience with Agile methodology
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills
• Willingness to travel as needed (up to 30%)
• Active U.S. Secret clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Connected Warfare Division builds mission-critical systems that enable global command and control for time-sensitive, multi-domain operations. By fusing robotics, sensor networks, and advanced software, we create high-performance, resilient software for autonomous systems and interconnected mesh ecosystems that empower our military partners with a comprehensive source of truth for rapid decision-making. 

The Edge Compute and Comms (ECC) Engineering team, you will rapidly prototype and create new products and solutions to address a wide variety of customer problems involving software, hardware, networking, autonomy/robotics, systems integration, and more, while making pragmatic engineering tradeoffs along the way. Your efforts will ensure that Anduril products seamlessly work together to achieve a variety of critical outcomes. You will work on new technology introduction and enhancing products like the Menace Family of Systems to bring integrated C4 (Compute, Comms, Command, and Control) capabilities to the tactical edge.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Engineering Manager for the Edge Compute and Communication group, you will lead a high-performing team that leverages cutting-edge technologies like Rust and C++ to deliver complex, high-impact software systems that operate with extreme efficiency and reliability at the tactical edge. You’ll be instrumental in shaping architectures optimized for resource-constrained environments, ensuring seamless communication and compute across our distributed network. You will be responsible for building the team’s culture, driving execution, and ensuring software quality and mission success. You’ll partner with cross-functional leadership—including seasoned engineers and product managers—to balance rapid delivery with robust, scalable architecture, always anchoring decisions in the realities of connected warfare.

A Note on This Role: This is an Engineering Manager role focused on both technical (opinionated about architecture, reliability, performance and quality, especially for low-level systems programming and distributed edge deployments) and non-technical (people, process, and project leadership).

What You’ll Do

• Lead & Mentor: Manage and grow a team of 10–15 engineers, fostering a high-performance, high-integrity culture focused on mission-critical delivery and rapid iteration. Drive the adoption of best-in-class systems programming practices, emphasizing performance, memory safety, and concurrent design patterns.
• Strategic Partnership: Collaborate closely with product, mission systems, and technical leadership to define team objectives, prioritize work streams, and align with broader Connected Warfare initiatives.
• Drive Execution: Ensure the timely and reliable delivery of complex software projects by removing impediments, providing the necessary resources, and promoting agile methodologies.
• Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the primary conduit between your team and senior leadership, communicating status updates, managing expectations, and advocating for your team’s needs.
• Technical Ownership: Supervise and monitor architecture, design, and implementation of features for high-performance, low-latency edge applications, ensuring they meet stringent quality standards and customer requirements.
• Drive technical excellence in areas like memory safety (Rust), concurrency, inter-process communication, and hardware-software interface design. Assist engineers in solving complex reliability, performance, and operational issues inherent in distributed, real-time systems.
• Quality & Process Ownership: Champion best practices in software design, code reviews, testing for embedded deployments, and CI/CD processes to ensure robust, scalable, and maintainable systems that are mission-ready.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a software engineering manager, with a proven record of building and leading high-performing teams.
• 8+ years of hands-on software development experience, demonstrating a strong technical foundation in building resilient, high-performance software for distributed edge systems, networked applications, and Embedded Linux environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in C++ or Rust (or both), with a deep understanding of systems programming principles, memory management, concurrency, and performance optimization for resource-constrained environments.
• Successful track record of delivering complex software projects under tight deadlines while managing stakeholder relationships in a matrixed organization.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and develop talented engineers.
• Expertise in agile development methodologies and process improvement.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing teams in mission-critical domains such as command and control, robotics, or defense applications.
• Familiarity with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices tailored for embedded and distributed deployments.
• Background in developing software for distributed systems, connected ecosystems and hardware integrations.
• Direct experience in IoT device management, telemetry, and secure over-the-air (OTA) update mechanisms is highly valued.
• Experience working within or closely with multi-domain operation teams.
• A deep understanding of networking, security, and system integration challenges in high-stakes environments.
• Familiarity with low-level hardware interactions, device drivers, or firmware development is a strong plus.

JOB SUMMARY

Bringing American manufactured capabilities to our warfighters is at the heart of Anduril’s Mission. The Senior Director of Engineering for Compute will be responsible for leading multiple initiatives to bring new classes of ruggedized, high-performance edge AI compute platforms to the fight. Working with industry partners, you will identify USA differentiated components and sub-manufacturers that would enable the creation of a broad portfolio of mission-specific compute solutions that would enable various platforms.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Work with industry vendors and partners to source and design cutting edge AI compute architectures, board-level solutions, and integrated systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design for our customers’ requirements.
• Employ Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to effectively define interfaces between various system components within the architecture, ensuring seamless integration and streamlined development processes.
• Develop system architectures that encompass all critical components and subsystems, ensuring a holistic and integrated approach.
• Define key capabilities and performance requirements of the hardware system, ensuring alignment with customer needs and industry standards.
• Decompose system functionality into modular components, enabling efficient design and development processes.
• Lead thorough evaluations and make informed recommendations regarding potential external technology partnerships or vendors, leveraging their expertise when necessary to expedite hardware development processes.
• Lead comprehensive technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, as well as supportability and effectiveness analyses.
• Lead functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to aid in translating customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
• Provide oversight in conducting testing and validation of hardware designs, ensuring quality, reliability, and compliance with industry regulations and standards.
• Drive the product lifecycle from prototype to LRIP to FRP

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field AND 10 years of related professional/military experience in Computer Engineering, MBSE, Systems Engineering OR a Master's degree with 5 years of related professional/military experience
• Previous experience working in hardware supply chain and manufacturing
• Ability to set/manage customer and internal/external stakeholder expectations while also prioritizing key program initiatives (schedule, cost, quality, etc.)
• Strong understanding of various architecture frameworks (DoDAF, etc.), knowledge and understanding of interface control documents (ICDs)
• Experience with hardware verification, testing, and validation methodologies
• Experience in data center server and/or personal computer manufacturing
• Ability to obtain or have active DoD Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI access, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
