We’re looking for a Director, MCU Software to lead the development and delivery of our embedded software platform and help shape the future of energy-efficient computing.

The Role

As Director of MCU Software, you will lead the team responsible for the execution, quality, and release of Ambiq’s AmbiqSuite SDK across current and next-generation ARM Cortex-M–based MCU platforms. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring our software platform meets the highest standards of performance, reliability, and usability—enabling customers to bring innovative products to market faster.

This is a high-impact leadership role that blends technical depth with organizational leadership. You’ll work across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to drive alignment, execution, and continuous improvement in how we build and deliver software.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the development and delivery of Ambiq’s embedded software platform across multiple MCU product lines
• Drive alignment between software execution and silicon program milestones to ensure successful product launches
• Oversee day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring high-quality, predictable software releases
• Champion robust support for embedded RTOS environments, including FreeRTOS and Zephyr
• Establish and evolve engineering best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and quality metrics
• Partner cross-functionally with Architecture, Silicon Design, Validation, Applications, and Field teams to resolve dependencies and execution risks
• Serve as a technical escalation point for complex issues and customer-facing challenges
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing embedded software team

What You Bring

• 15+ years of experience in embedded software development, with 10+ years in leadership roles
• Strong background in MCU or embedded systems, ideally with ARM Cortex-M architecture
• Deep expertise in C/C++ development for real-time, resource-constrained environments
• Experience delivering SDKs, platform software, HAL/BSP, or driver stacks for production systems
• Hands-on knowledge of RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr
• Proven experience working across the silicon lifecycle, including hardware/software integration and system-level debugging
• Familiarity with modern development practices: Agile, CI/CD, automated testing, and defect tracking tools
• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills

Scope

As a member of the team at Ambiq, an Sr. Staff Embedded Software Engineer (Security),  will provide technical and team leadership in extending and supporting Ambiq’s Secure Bootrom/Bootloader and SDK for the Apollo SoC and emulation platforms.

This role will work within our global MCU software development team, closely with the architecture team and local MCU SoC design teams, focusing on MCU software development and testing.

A successful candidate should be team-oriented, fast-learning, result-driven, and self-motivated with an “always learning” mindset. He/She will have an inquiring spirit and be comfortable in a lab environment, working hands-on with bare metal hardware and debugging tools for embedded systems.

The candidate will be involved in maintaining and extending the Secure Boot ROM, Secure Bootloader, and security aspects of the SDK for Ambiq MCU products from concept through release.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership within the MCU Software team. Lead the technical planning, work assignments, and implementation for the new products and new features to be implemented by the MCU software team.
• As the team scales, there's a potential path to managing a small to mid-size team. The candidate is someone who's excited to grow into a player-coach role over time.
• Work with the teams, e.g., Design, Architecture, Verification, and Applications, to define and implement new security features from design to production.
• Participate in testing and verification of pre-silicon (via FPGA emulation), and post-silicon (first Silicon), and debug of issues found, focusing on Secure Bootrom and Bootloader and the hardware features supporting them.
• Integration and Testing of runtime cryptographic operations utilizing the embedded hardware accelerators.
• Work closely with the SQA and System Test team to help define and implement test cases for security deliverables to ensure full coverage.
• Work with other team members to implement the hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and board support package (BSP) of the SDK.

Qualifications

• BS/MS (EE, CE, or CS) with 10+ years of embedded projects utilizing both bare metal and RTOS systems/real-time environments.
• 3+ years of team management experience preferred
• Expert-level proficiency in C, with C++ and object-oriented extensions.
• Embedded Expertise: Strong knowledge of ARM architectures, RTOS, and low-level drivers (I2C, SPI, UART).
• Security Expertise: Experience with Secure Boot, PKI, encryption (AES, RSA, ECC), and embedded security (TrustZone, CryptoCell).
• Experience: Bachelor’s or Master's in CS/EE with 5+ years of relevant embedded security experience.
• Familiarity with debuggers (JTAG, Saleae), Git, and scripting languages (Python, Bash).
• Understanding of security implications for the embedded systems, and familiarity with IoT security concepts (TrustZone, CryptoCell, and secure boot)
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Use of gcc and Arm compilers and MCU IDEs from ARM, Keil, IAR, Eclipse or others
• Excellent problem-solving skills dealing with issues related to HW/SW debug, FPGA/Silicon testing

Scope

As the Senior Embedded Graphics Software Engineer at Ambiq, you will support the development and testing of AmbiqSuite SDK on Ambiq SoC devices and emulation platforms, focusing on the graphics processing unit (GPU) Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and the graphics stack for Ambiq’s mainstream and next-generation MCU. 

This role works within our global MCU software development team and will work closely with more senior graphics software development team members, focusing on MCU graphics software development and test activities.    

The successful candidate should be a fast-learning, result-driven, and self-motivated team player with an “always learning” mindset. He should have an inquiring spirit and be comfortable in a lab environment and in executing hands-on debugging for embedded systems. 

The person in this role will be responsible for maintaining the current platform and extending the GPU HAL and software stack of the graphics SDK to new platforms as well as enhancing its features and content. The candidate will be involved in the extension of the SDK to cover new MCU members of the family as they become available.   

Responsibilities 

• Collaborate with software senior graphics software developers to implement the HAL and graphics API for the embedded GPU on Ambiq MCUs. 

• Design, implement and maintain the graphics API and the underlying graphics software stack, including the GPU and Display HAL layers. 

• Develop and maintain example applications and test cases to demonstrate and validate graphics features. 

• Play a key role in GPU-focused pre-silicon verification on FPGA platforms, as well as post-silicon bring-up, system validation, and debugging. 

• Provide support to Design Verification (DV), system validation teams, field engineers, and key customers as needed. 

Qualifications 

• MS in ECE or Computer Science and 4+ years of experience or BS ECE/CS with 6+ years of experience. 

• Expertise in at least one embedded GPU IP, with a solid understanding of the full graphics pipeline and hands-on experience developing HAL and graphics software stacks. 

• Experience with OpenGL ES or other 3D graphics APIs. 

• Experience with graphics frameworks such as LVGL is preferred 

• Experience with vector graphics acceleration or software libraries is preferred. 

• Experience with embedded system display interfaces, such as MIPI DSI, DBI, DPI, or Memory-In-Pixel. 

• In-depth knowledge of ARM architecture, with a preference for M-profile (Cortex-M) cores preferred. 

• Strong understanding of embedded RTOS concepts; experience with Zephyr and FreeRTOS is preferred. 

• Experience with developing embedded MCU code in C and assembly language on Arm Cortex-M Processors, with at least one MCU IDE from ARM, Keil, IAR, Eclipse, O-zone or other. 

• Good hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers etc. for debugging issues.  

• Experience with Jira, Confluence and collaboration tools.  

• Experience with source code control systems (git) required.  

• Understanding software testing and test automation principles.  

• Excellent problem-solving skills dealing with complex system level issues related to HW/SW debug. 

• Experience with scripting languages required and python experience is desirable. 

• Strong communication and documentation skills.

As a member of the Security team at Ambiq, the Senior Staff Software Engineer, Security will participate in developing and supporting Ambiq’s TrustZone-based Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) offering for the Apollo & Atomiq SoC and emulation platforms.  

This role will work within our Security software development team and will work closely with SoC and system architecture teams, Security architects and local SoC design team, focusing on enabling the TrustZone functions in Ambiq’s SoC and software offerings.  

A successful candidate should be a fast-learning, result-driven, and self-motivated team player with an “always learning” mindset. He should have an inquiring spirit and be comfortable in a lab environment and with hands-on debugging of embedded systems.  

The candidate will be involved in the extension of each of these to cover new MCU members of the family as they become available. 

Responsibilities 

• Enable Trusted Execution Environments (TEE) support on Ambiq’s TrustZone (ARM v8) enabled Apollo and Atomiq family of products. 

• Take reference Trusted Firmware for Microcontroller (TF-m) implementation from ARM and adapt it to suit the specifics of Ambiq’s TrustZone implementation 

• Drive necessary Secure Bootloader software updates, laying the foundation for TEE and implementing necessary elements required for TF-m. 

• Help drive SDK infrastructure and architectural changes to support TF-m-enabled systems. 

• Spearhead Ambiq's compliance efforts by supporting industry-leading security certifications like ARM PSA and SESIP. 

• Work closely with Alpha customers to ensure seamless integration of TF-m by testing and verifying its functionality in customer builds 

• Work closely with the SQA and System Test team to help define and implement test cases for security deliverables to ensure full coverage.  

 Qualifications 

• A Bachelor's of Science or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. 

• 10+ years of experience developing embedded software for real-time environments (bare metal and RTOS). 

• At least 5 years working on embedded security, cryptography, TrustZone, and secure boot. 

• Solid understanding & proven ability to port and support ARM Trusted Firmware for Microcontrollers (TF-m). 

• Understanding of security implications for the embedded systems, and experience with IoT security concepts (TrustZone, Root of Trust, Secure Boot, Secure Update) 

• Familiarity and prior experience with ARM Platform Security Architecture (PSA), ARM TrustZone for microcontrollers, cryptographic algorithms/protocols, and ARM Cryptocell. Expertise in embedded C and assembly language, particularly for system initialization. 

• Familiarity with at least one MCU IDE on Windows from ARM/Keil, IAR, Eclipse, or others. 

• The candidate must be able to independently manage assigned tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to seek clarification when needed are essential. 

• Experience in prioritizing tasks and managing workflow for oneself and potentially others in the future. Ability to delegate effectively and keep projects on track to achieve desired outcomes.
