The opportunity
Altruist is in the midst of an exceptional growth phase and we’re excited to hire a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager of Settlements to lead and elevate our Settlements team within the Operations department. This role is integral to ensuring seamless trading, settlement, and reporting processes. The Senior Manager will oversee a team of Analysts and collaborate across departments to enhance operational efficiency, mitigate risk, and drive continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to shape the systems and processes that underpin Altruist’s clearing and settlement operations, ensuring excellence in service delivery.
Your impact
- Lead and mentor a team of Settlement Analysts, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities to ensure a high-performing team.
- Manage daily settlement operations, including fail control functions, buy-ins for aged fails, and daily settlement reconciliations.
- Oversee seg deficit management, including curing deficits and completing segmentation reporting.
- Collaborate with internal teams (ACATS, Securities Lending Ops, Trading, FinOp) and external stakeholders (DTC, street counterparties, 3rd party vendors) to resolve settlement issues promptly and effectively.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of daily entries, adjustments, and corrections in the brokerage platform.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve escalated trade, cash, and position reconciliation issues.
- Develop, document, and maintain department procedures, guidelines, and controls to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to design and implement innovative solutions for process improvement and automation.
- Monitor and report fail exposures to senior management, ensuring robust risk management practices.
- Support and enhance systems integration to maintain data accuracy, consistency, and completeness across platforms.
- Stay informed on industry developments, technologies, and best practices to ensure Altruist remains at the forefront of settlement operations.
- Serve as the point of contact (POC) for fixed-income escalations, ensuring prompt resolution and effective communication with stakeholders.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with TRACE and MSRB reporting requirements, maintaining accuracy and timeliness in reporting fixed-income transactions.
What you bring
- Experience - 8+ years in brokerage operations and 4+ years in a people management position, with specific expertise in trade clearance and settlements for a self-clearing broker-dealer.
- Leadership skills - strong coaching abilities with a proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
- Securities licenses - You studied hard and we’re excited to carry your series 7, 24, and 53 licenses
- Technical aptitude - You’re technologically savvy and are proficient with DTC, NSCC, Obligation Warehouse, SMART Track, and other DTCC applications; Expertise in fixed-income processing and settlement.

The opportunity
Altruist is seeking a Senior Manager or Director, Trading Credit Risk – Margin & Options to provide senior-level leadership over credit risk arising from customer trading activity. This role is responsible for overseeing margin and options credit exposure, setting risk strategy, and leading a team that manages risk through both steady-state operations and periods of market stress. You’ll act as a key risk leader and escalation authority, partnering closely with Trading, Brokerage Operations, Product, Engineering, Compliance, and executive Risk leadership to build out the risk framework, develop talent, and help launch and scale our margin and options offerings so programs remain compliant and scale safely.
What you’ll do
- Provide senior leadership for trading credit risk oversight related to margin lending and options trading
- Set and maintain credit risk strategy, limits, thresholds, and escalation frameworks
- Oversee monitoring of customer leverage, buying power, margin balances, and options exposure
- Lead response to market stress events, including elevated margin calls, forced liquidations, and systemic risk scenarios
- Review and challenge margin methodologies, options risk frameworks, and liquidation strategies
- Serve as a senior escalation point for high-risk accounts, complex scenarios, and firm-wide credit risk events
- Oversee and manage collateral requirements and firm obligations at The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC)
- Partner with Trading, Product, and Engineering on risk rule changes, automation, and platform enhancements
- Lead preparation and presentation of credit risk reporting to senior leadership and risk committees
- Support and lead regulatory exams, audits, and supervisory interactions
- Own and maintain credit risk policies, WSPs, and governance documentation
- Lead, mentor, and develop managers and analysts; build a strong, resilient risk team
- Drive continuous improvement of risk analytics, controls, and monitoring tools
What you bring
- 7+ years of experience in trading credit risk, margin risk, or brokerage risk management
- Deep, hands-on expertise in margin lending and options trading
- Strong understanding of customer leverage, options strategies, and liquidation mechanics
- Experience managing OCC collateral and clearing risk requirements and familiarity with OCC Encore
- Extensive experience in a second-line risk oversight or independent risk function
- Proven people leadership experience, including managing managers or leading larger teams
- Ability to make sound risk decisions under pressure and during volatile market conditions
- Strong executive communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Excellent judgment, strategic thinking, and operational discipline
Licenses and credentials
- Series 7 and Series 63 required
- Series 24 and Series 4 required
- Series 57 required, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
Nice to have
- Experience at a custodian, clearing firm, or fintech brokerage
- Familiarity with FIS and Sterling trading platforms is a plus
- Background in stress testing models, margin engines, or automated credit risk systems
- Experience leading risk functions through significant market events
- Familiarity with clearing, OMS/EMS, or brokerage risk platforms
- Experience scaling risk programs in high-growth environments

Your impact
- Lead and mentor a team of Settlement Analysts, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities to ensure a high-performing team.
- Manage daily settlement operations, including fail control functions, buy-ins for aged fails, and daily settlement reconciliations.
- Oversee seg deficit management, including curing deficits and completing segmentation reporting.
- Collaborate with internal teams (ACATS, Securities Lending Ops, Trading, FinOp) and external stakeholders (DTC, street counterparties, 3rd party vendors) to resolve settlement issues promptly and effectively.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of daily entries, adjustments, and corrections in the brokerage platform.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve escalated trade, cash, and position reconciliation issues.
- Develop, document, and maintain department procedures, guidelines, and controls to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to design and implement innovative solutions for process improvement and automation.
- Monitor and report fail exposures to senior management, ensuring robust risk management practices.
- Support and enhance systems integration to maintain data accuracy, consistency, and completeness across platforms.
- Stay informed on industry developments, technologies, and best practices to ensure Altruist remains at the forefront of settlement operations.
- Serve as the point of contact (POC) for fixed-income escalations, ensuring prompt resolution and effective communication with stakeholders.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with TRACE and MSRB reporting requirements, maintaining accuracy and timeliness in reporting fixed-income transactions.
What you bring
- Experience - 6+ years in brokerage operations and management, with specific expertise in trade clearance and settlements for a self-clearing broker-dealer.
- Leadership skills - strong coaching abilities with a proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
- Securities licenses - You studied hard and we’re excited to carry your series 7, 24, and 53 licenses
- Technical aptitude - You’re technologically savvy and are proficient with DTC, NSCC, Obligation Warehouse, SMART Track, and other DTCC applications; Expertise in fixed-income processing and settlement.

About the position
Altruist is entering an exciting new phase, and we're looking for an Tax and Retirement Operations Analyst to join our team. As a Tax & Retirement Operations Analyst, you’ll play a vital role behind the scenes, ensuring that all tax, cost basis, and retirement operations are accurate, compliant, and efficient. You’ll maintain the integrity of thousands of client accounts — processing transactions, reconciling data, producing tax forms, and ensuring compliance with IRS and regulatory standards.
This role is ideal for someone with exceptional attention to detail, a strong understanding of brokerage and retirement operations, and a drive to deliver operational excellence in a fast-paced fintech environment.
What you’ll do
- Maintain and update client cost basis across equities, mutual funds, ETFs, fixed income, and options.
- Process and reconcile corporate actions (splits, mergers, spin-offs, return of capital events) with real-time cost basis adjustments.
- Manage wash sales, gain/loss adjustments, and tax corrections in compliance with IRS standards.
- Support the production, review, and reconciliation of tax forms, including Forms 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC, 1099-OID, 5498, and 1099-R.
- Investigate and resolve cost basis discrepancies by collaborating with custodians, fund companies, and internal teams.
- Ensure complete and accurate cost basis preservation during ACATs, non-ACATs, and asset transfers.
- Manage transactions including contributions, distributions, rollovers, RMD recalculations, Roth conversions, recharacterizations, and death claims.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Client Success, Compliance, Product, Engineering) to improve processes and resolve operational issues.
- Ensure all retirement operations meet regulatory and IRS standards, including Publication 590-A/B and the SECURE Acts.
What you’ll bring
- 1+ years of experience in financial operations, retirement services, cost basis management, or brokerage operations
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in financial services, operations, or accounting.
- Knowledge of IRA and 401(k) account rules, custodial operations, and tax reporting.
- Familiarity with a wide range of investment products (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, options).
- Sharp attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Nice to have:
- FINRA Series 99 or Series 7 license (or willingness to obtain).
- Understanding of retirement vs. non-retirement tax treatment and beneficiary rules.
- Knowledge of IRA and 401(k) account rules, custodial operations, and tax reporting.
