The Role

This role isn’t a traditional writing role. Instead, you’ll sit at the intersection of writing and experimenting with the latest AI documentation tools. As our technical writer for API docs, you’ll be the primary architect for developer-facing content. Beyond that, you’ll also define how Addepar leverages AI and automation to ensure our technical content remains current, correct, and complete.

You’ll report to the Head of Design for Platform Adoption.

Addepar takes a market-based approach to pay. A successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on the role, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The current range for this role is $87,000 - $109,000(base salary) + bonus + equity + benefits.

What You’ll Do

• Take full ownership of developers.addepar.com, performing regular audits to ensure every endpoint and guide is accurate and functional.
• Create high-impact documentation for new features, consolidate redundant information, and proactively archive deprecated content to reduce technical debt.
• Rigorously test API documentation against live environments to verify accuracy, ensuring code snippets and examples work as intended.
• Evaluate and implement strategies to leverage AI and automation tools that keep content updated in real-time.
• Become the internal expert on ReadMe’s suite of AI tools. Implement best practices for automated API documentation and leverage AI-driven insights to improve the developer experience.
• Establish workflows that follow automated API documentation guidance to ensure the "completeness" of our technical library.
• Work closely with Engineers and Product Managers to translate complex technical specifications into clear, concise, and developer-friendly documentation.

Who You Are

• 5+ years of experience writing API documentation (RESTful, GraphQL, etc.).
• Comfortable reading code (Python, Java, or similar) and using developer tools like Postman, GitHub, and CLI environments.
• Deep experience with ReadMe or similar documentation platforms. Knowledge of Markdown and "docs-as-code" workflows is essential.
• A forward-thinking mindset regarding AI. You should be familiar with LLMs and how structured documentation feeds into AI-driven support and development tools.
• An obsessive eye for detail. You understand that in the world of APIs, a single missing character can break an integration.
• Ability to distill highly complex backend logic into simple, actionable guidance for external partners.
• Ability to manage varied workloads and tight timelines, communicating across multiple time zones.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced design systems leader who thrives on the challenge of scaling systems across complex products and platforms. You are a strategic thinker who identifies inconsistencies in both our interface and our internal processes, designing high-impact improvements that gain broad adoption across the organization.

In this role, you will lead the evolution of our design system while leveraging AI-driven workflows to automate distribution and maximize effectiveness. You will embed design operations into our core methodology to optimize the development lifecycle and ensure our system provides maximum strategic value. As an empathetic manager, you will align business objectives with the growth and skills of your team.

Reporting to the Head of Design for Platform Capabilities and Systems, you will act as the vital link between our most innovative teams. You will partner closely with design and cross-functional leadership to unify our product experience and elevate our technical standards.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain a compelling vision and roadmap for the design system that aligns with company strategy and long-term product transformation
• Build and scale repeatable systems and rituals that optimize the end-to-end design and development lifecycle, ensuring a high degree of operational efficiency
• Partner with Engineering and Product leads to ensure the design system is deeply integrated into the development workflow, maintaining a high standard of technical feasibility and UI consistency across the entire platform
• Provide leadership on adopting the latest technologies, including AI-driven workflows and UX engineering practices, to automate system distribution and maximize effectiveness
• Lead, empower, and mentor a team of designers to do their best work, aligning business objectives with their professional development
• Act as the vital link between innovative teams to unify the product experience and elevate technical standards across Addepar’s platform
• Evolve the design systems documentation website as a single source of truth and establish goal-driven metrics to measure the impact and efficiency of the design system
• Build a strategy for incorporating global accessibility standards and UI excellence into our core methodology
• Uncover adoption roadblocks and build solutions to remove them, building the required relationships to get broad consensus across a complex organization
• Lead, empower, and mentor designers on the team to do their best work. Regularly provide constructive critique and introduce learning opportunities. Encourage growth

Who You Are

• 7+ years in Product Design or UX Design, with at least 3 years specifically in a leadership or management role
• You have a proven track record of leading design systems initiatives for enterprise or B2B SaaS organizations
• You can plan for long-term platform transformation while triaging immediate design needs across multiple workstreams
• You understand how to scale design operations and are passionate about systematic, modularized problem-solving
• You possess a solid technical understanding of user interfaces and are proficient in the latest tools; experience or interest in UX engineering and AI-assisted design is highly valued
• You have exceptional communication and partnership-building skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization
• You thrive in a growth environment and are committed to cultivating a culture of design excellence and continuous learning

• Craft clear, concise, and on-brand copy for various delivery channels, translating complex technical ideas into simple prose.
• Develop and innovate on the language used to share product updates, ensuring a consistent and engaging voice across touchpoints.
• Partner with cross-functional partners to clearly convey big-picture concepts in one or two sentences.
• Independently develop and publish release notes to keep deliverables on schedule for regular sprint cycles.
• Regularly update our platform roadmap messaging to align with our company vision and strategic plans.
• Track and report on engagement metrics and user feedback to identify opportunities and strengthen how we write.
• Leverage Gemini, Hemingway, and other AI and editing tools to streamline and scale content development.
• Maintain, evolve, and apply Addepar’s content standards, ensuring all deliverables are polished and professional.

Who You Are

• 2-3 years of experience writing for a B2B/B2C company or creative agency.
• Inspiring portfolio that showcases your strategic approach to creating engaging content. Extra emphasis on samples of short, succinct copy that ladders up to a larger narrative.
• Fantastic writing (American English), editing, and proofreading skills with an understanding of editorial style guides and design systems.
• A performance mindset: you understand how copy supports engagement and adoption, and you strive for continual, iterative improvement.
• Proficient with (or eager to learn) Figma, Zendesk, Confluence, Jira, Google Analytics, and in-app messaging tools like Appcues.
• Adept at leveraging AI to optimize workflows, always looking for fresh ways to evolve brand standards.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage varied workloads and tight timelines across multiple time zones.
• You thrive in fast-moving, collaborative environments and enjoy building together as a team.
