What you will do
Abnormal AI is looking for a driven and growth-oriented backend software engineer to join the Email Productivity team. The team builds and supports Abnormal’s Email Productivity product, an important service that helps our customers manage email more efficiently. As a member of the team, you will contribute to developing new features, improving system reliability, and supporting the ongoing success of the product. You’ll have the opportunity to work on backend systems, learn best practices from experienced engineers, and help solve technical challenges related to high-volume email processing. We’re looking for candidates who are eager to learn, excited to work collaboratively, and interested in working on high-scale, high-impact products.
Must Haves
- BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems or other related engineering field
- 1+ years of industry experience on backend development & distributed systems, designing & building software applications
- Experience working individually as well as in groups on a regular basis
- Experience working with distributed teams, proficient in asynchronous and written communication
- Experience building features & components from scratch and operating them, balancing feature development work with operational tasks
Nice to Haves
- Experience with our stack: Python, Go, AWS, K8s, Django, Spark, Prometheus
- 1+ years of experience programming in Golang
- Familiarity with AWS services and deployment practices.
- Experience leading a small team to build a feature or component from scratch

About the Role
Abnormal AI is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer II to join our innovative team, working across the Messaging Security Products (MSP) division, including the Threat Visibility and Exploration Team (TREX) and the Adaptive Classifications Team (ACT). This role focuses on delivering a top-tier product experience by enhancing our core offerings in Email Security and threat visibility. The engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining comprehensive products, ensuring seamless integration from the database layer to the user interface, with a primary focus on back-end development and some front-end responsibilities (80% back end, 20% front end).
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in full-stack development, possessing in-depth knowledge of both frontend and backend technologies. This position requires leveraging skills to improve visibility into detected threats, enabling SOC teams to intuitively search and filter threat data. Additionally, the role supports SOC workflow automation by developing tools such as the AI Security Mailbox and Detection 360. What you will do
- Design and execute software projects that are crucial to Abnormal’s success, in collaboration with a team of engineers, through conception, design, implementation, launch, and operation

- Collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and GTM teams to implement, verify, and iterate on issues and requests from our customers
- Raise the standard of excellence in engineering by actively sharing knowledge within the team and engaging in professional development activities

Must Haves

Senior Software Engineer, Adaptive Classification Team

About the Role
Abnormal AI is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Adaptive Classifications Team. The team owns & operates Abnormal’s AI Security Mailbox and Detection 360 products. The team’s goal is to automate security analysts' workflows by providing them with reliable, intuitive, and delightful agentic products that give them back time in their day.
This is a full-stack team responsible for all layers, including data storage, detection efficacy, backend, and frontend. The ideal candidate will have worked across the stack and have in-depth knowledge about backend systems, distributed computing, and event-driven architecture.
What you will do
- Work with the Engineering Manager & Product Manager to craft the roadmap for the ACT team.
- Lead and architect Software Projects critical to Abnormal’s success with a team of engineers through conception, design, implementation, launch & operation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship for junior members of the team
- Collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and Go-To-Market teams in order to implement, verify, and iterate on the issues & requests coming from our customers
- Raise the bar of excellence in engineering, actively contributing to knowledge sharing within the team, and participating in professional development activities.
- Grow into a tech lead role for the AI Security Mailbox product
- Own key deliverables from e2e within our division's quarterly roadmap and a subset of the key divisional SLAs/SLOs
- Provide direct leverage for the team by architecting and owning AI-native workflows to eliminate team toil.
Must Haves

Define the Future of Platform Operations: Operate a platform built by 200 engineers with a team of only five people. The necessary tools, APIs, and infrastructure for efficient operation do not yet exist and must be built. Gain Broad, Deep Expertise: The role offers hands-on involvement across the entire product and development stack.
Recent examples include:
- Tracing commercial-side dev infrastructure build pipelines.
- Designing Continuous Delivery (CD) processes for government deployments that will eventually be used commercially.
- Improving underlying cloud infrastructure emission processes.

- 4+ years of experience working with distributed systems
- Familiarity with Redis, Kafka/PubSub, and relational databases
