Structural Steel Fabrication Technician
Location: Richmond, VA
Shift: First Shift (occasional Saturday overtime as needed)
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: Starting at $22.00/hour (higher pay available based on experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabrication Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will fabricate and assemble a variety of miscellaneous metal products, including railings, stair systems, ladders, and other custom steel components.
The ideal candidate has strong fabrication skills, can interpret blueprints accurately, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment where priorities may change throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
Fabricate and assemble railings, stairs, ladders, and other miscellaneous steel products using shop drawings and specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, job travelers, and work instructions to ensure accurate production.
Perform layout, measuring, cutting, fitting, welding, and finishing of metal components.
Operate fabrication equipment, including saws, shears, press brakes, and welding machines while following all safety procedures.
Use FCAW welding to complete fabrication work while maintaining quality standards.
Inspect finished products to verify they meet company and customer specifications.
Work with supervisors, engineers, and production team members to complete projects on schedule.
Identify fabrication issues and help develop practical solutions to improve production.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Adapt to changing production schedules and move between projects as needed while maintaining quality workmanship.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience fabricating miscellaneous metals, including railing systems and similar steel products.
Proficiency with FCAW welding. Welding certifications are preferred but not required.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work efficiently in a production-driven setting.
Flexibility to move between assignments to support changing production demands.
Work Environment
Indoor fabrication shop with exposure to welding fumes, dust, exhaust, paint vapors, and industrial noise.
Regular work around moving machinery and electrical equipment.
First-shift schedule with occasional overtime and Saturday work based on production needs.
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, protective footwear, hearing protection, and appropriate work attire.
Long pants are required at all times while working on the shop floor.
