About the Role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll build reliable ingestion and transformation pipelines, implement automated quality checks, and ensure downstream systems can trust the data they depend on. Working within a .Monks delivery team, you’ll collaborate with clients, engineers, and product teams while using AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex as part of your everyday workflow.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain ingestion and transformation pipelines across diverse data sources
- Develop automated validation and integrity checks that identify data issues early
- Model and move data across relational and analytical stores to support reliable downstream systems
- Monitor pipeline health and troubleshoot data quality and performance issues
- Design pipelines that are reliable, scalable, and observable
- Review human- and AI-generated code for quality, correctness, and consistency
- Collaborate with engineers and product teams to define and implement data quality standards
- Communicate data quality risks and technical concepts clearly to clients and non-technical stakeholders
- Identify and resolve the root causes of pipeline and data integrity issues
- Use AI coding agents to accelerate engineering workflows while maintaining high quality standards
- Other duties as assigned
About You
Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering or backend engineering
- Advanced proficiency in at least one core language, preferably TypeScript/Node.js or Python
- Strong SQL and data modeling skills across relational and analytical data stores
- Solid understanding of data ingestion, ETL, transformation, and pipeline architecture
- Experience designing scalable data validation, integrity, and quality checks
- Experience building and operating data solutions on AWS
- Fluency working alongside AI coding agents, such as Claude Code or Codex, and reviewing AI-generated code
- Rigorous approach to data correctness, reliability, and observability
- Strong ownership mindset and practical root-cause problem-solving skills
- Strong English communication skills, including the ability to explain data quality concepts to non-specialists
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, engineers, and product teams
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, agile consulting environment
