Role Summary and Impact
This role is within the Modelling Services part of the Data, Tech & Analytics team, where you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality analytical and data-driven projects that help drive effective marketing and media planning decisions. Sitting between the WPP Media agency brands and at the intersection of data science, econometric modelling, and client consultancy, you will support the end-to-end delivery of bespoke modelling analytics projects.
As a Senior Associate, you will play a key role in delivering analytical support to our clients. Your primary impact will be in managing complex marketing datasets, building robust statistical models (such as market mix models, attribution, and brand health modelling), and translating those outputs into actionable insights. You will work collaboratively with planning teams and clients to ensure these learnings are consistently applied to media planning decisions, fostering a positive, supportive, and continuous-learning environment.
Skills and Experience
Academic Background and Experience
- Essential: A bachelor’s degree in a highly numerate/quantitative subject (e.g., Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science) or equivalent demonstrable practical experience.
- Desirable:
- A master’s degree in a numerate/quantitative subject.
- A second degree in Marketing or Business/Management.
- Prior work experience (internships or placements) within a marketing, media, or general business environment.
Core Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Essential:
- Strong understanding of basic statistics and the principles of regression analysis.
- High level of comfort working with both small and large datasets to discover insights.
- Efficient use and writing of code—specifically R or Python—to build, update, and run scripts for data processing, analysis, and visualization.
- High proficiency in Excel (data manipulation, formulas) and PowerPoint (presentation creation).
- Knowledge of standard analytical methodologies including Econometrics/MMM, Brand Health modelling, attribution models, and media optimization.
- Desirable:
- Understanding of advanced statistical methods.
- Ability to use SQL, Stata, or SPSS.
Core Responsibilities & Professional Attributes
- Data Processing & Quality Control: Own the creation and validation of project datasets. Run thorough error checks on raw and processed data, proactively query and resolve anomalies with providers, and design/implement automation or efficiency improvements for data ingestion.
- Robust Modelling & Forecasting: Independently update existing modelling files and build technically sound statistical models under line manager guidance. Know how to balance statistical robustness with intuitive sense, justify all model variables, and use outputs to build and update forecasting and optimization tools (such as curve creation and interpretation).
- Storytelling & Reporting: Take responsibility for compiling sections of client presentations. Write storytelling, insight-led, and actionable headlines supported by fully formatted and checked charts. Suggest additional content
- Client Engagement & Meeting Leadership: Play an active role in client meetings, following discussion, taking notes/actions and contributing where relevant
- Integration & Relationship Building: Act as a key point of contact for internal project, planning, and client teams. Work collaboratively to ensure modelling insights are integrated into media planning decisions, and respond to ad-hoc queries from planners.
- Leadership, Mentorship & Team Growth: Provide basic guidance and mentorship to junior Analysts in the team. Take responsibility for sharing specialist knowledge and case studies across the wider agency, and work towards completing professional credentials like the IPA Foundation Certificate and continue to broaden and deeper your knowledge of the industry
- Departmental Contribution & Vision: Active participation in departmental vision working groups, taking responsibility for a key area of focus and suggesting new ways to achieve agency goals.
- Commercial Awareness: Maintain a strong awareness of project timelines, pricing, resource allocation, and how your personal resource usage impacts the team's commercial profitability. Support project wrap-ups by updating benchmarking databases for cross-brand trend analysis.
