We are looking for an experienced Principal Firmware Engineer to design and develop next-generation storage firmware solutions for high-performance storage devices. In this role, you will contribute to the architecture, development, and optimization of embedded firmware for HDD and SSD platforms, working across firmware layers to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performance storage solutions.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Storage Embedded Firmware, strong experience with HDD/SSD firmware development, and hands-on knowledge of SATA, SAS, NVMe, and Flash Translation Layer (FTL) technologies. You will collaborate closely with hardware, validation, and systems teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance embedded firmware for enterprise storage devices, including HDDs and SSDs.
• Develop firmware components across the middle layer and backend firmware stack.
• Design and implement complex firmware algorithms for storage management, reliability, and performance optimization.
• Work with storage interfaces such as SATA, SAS, and NVMe to ensure robust device functionality.
• Develop and optimize Flash Translation Layer (FTL) and storage management features where applicable.
• Participate in firmware architecture, design reviews, and technical decision-making.
• Create high-quality software design documentation, including Software Requirement Specifications (SRS) and Software Design Documents (SDD).
• Debug and resolve complex firmware issues across hardware and software interfaces.
• Collaborate with hardware, validation, and cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Develop automation utilities and debug tools using scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Shell, or Lua.
• Follow industry-standard software development practices, code reviews, testing, and release processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to firmware architecture and technical best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 10–18 years of experience in embedded firmware development.
• Strong experience in Storage Embedded Firmware development.
• Proven experience with HDD Firmware, SSD Firmware, or enterprise Storage Firmware.
• Hands-on expertise with SATA, SAS, NVMe, and Flash Translation Layer (FTL) technologies.
• Strong proficiency in C++ with solid experience in embedded software development.
• Good knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and system architecture.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Shell, or Lua.
• Experience following structured software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with embedded development using C.
• Knowledge of Windows or Linux device driver development.
• Familiarity with processor architecture, SoC architecture, and hardware-software interaction.
• Experience with MATLAB or simulation-based development.
• Prior experience designing enterprise storage products.
