About the American Connection Corps:

The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship program aimed at helping communities build the digital connectivity necessary to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment.

ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, helping address the digital divide and strengthen access to opportunity. Through their service, they gain hands-on experience, build in-demand skills, and explore career pathways while making a tangible impact in their communities.

About Hillsboro Public Library

Our mission is "For Everyone - Para Todos". We have two library branches that serve our community of about 110,000 people, including one of the most diverse populations in the state. We are a department of the City of Hillsboro and a partner in the WCCLS cooperative, where we work together with 15 other nearby libraries to serve patrons across Washington County.

Position Overview

Our ACC Member will serve as a Digital Navigator at Shute Park Library, helping advance digital equity and inclusion by providing direct support to community members navigating technology barriers. The Member will provide direct assistance with foundational digital skills, internet access, devices, and online services, while supporting the delivery of digital literacy workshops tailored to diverse community needs. Through patient, culturally responsive, and relationship-centered service, the Member will help individuals access essential resources, educational opportunities, employment tools, and community connections. Their service will strengthen trust between the library and the community while expanding access to technology resources and building digital confidence for underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one digital navigation support to community members, assisting with foundational computer skills, email setup, internet use, file transfers, online applications, and smartphone/tablet basics.
  • Support the delivery of digital literacy workshops for diverse audiences through accessible instruction, including bilingual support when possible, in collaboration with library staff.
  • Assist patrons in accessing affordable internet options, digital resources, and device acquisition programs.
  • Build trusted relationships with community members through patient, culturally responsive, and customer-centered service.
  • Support the maintainance of accurate records of patron interactions, workshop participation, outreach efforts, and measurable outcomes to support program assessment and service improvements.
  • Serve collaboratively with library staff to identify emerging digital literacy needs, outreach opportunities, and training initiatives.
  • Communicate and provide consistent feedback to library staff, reporting challenges, sharing successes, and collaborating on solutions.

  • Under staff guidance and direction, support submission of quarterly summary reports related to patron interactions, workshops, outreach efforts, and measurable outcomes.
  • Additional projects may include supporting access to makerspace tools, creative technology resources, and digital learning opportunities that are consistent with allowable AmeriCorps service activities and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with existing library partners and support efforts to cultivate new community connections to strengthen digital inclusion efforts and expand equitable access to resources and services.

Additional Preferred Competencies

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills to better serve our diverse community STRONGLY preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to quickly build trust and rapport with patrons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including seniors, immigrants, and underserved groups.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to support services across both library locations.
  • Initiative in supporting the development and delivery of workshops and/or trainings.
  • Strong organizational skills for tracking data, reporting outcomes, preparing materials, and managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and commitment to equitable, inclusive public service.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with community partners and organizations to expand outreach and access to services.

All functions and activities performed by the AmeriCorps Member are completed under the guidance, supervision, and direction of program and host site staff.

Learning & Development Opportunities

As an ACC Member, you will receive structured training and support throughout your service year, including: 

  • A two-week-long virtual orientation with the national cohort to kick off the service year.
  • A week-long, in-person national Winter Institute convening with your ACC cohort — travel, lodging, and a per diem stipend are fully covered.
  • Twice-monthly virtual training on skills for service, including project management, asset-based community development, grant writing, and serving vulnerable populations, plus self-paced curricula with opportunities to earn badges and credentials.
  • A structured community listening tour at the start of service to understand local needs, assets, and opportunities.
  • Dedicated 1:1 support from a Lead For America Program Coordinator and twice-monthly peer pod meetings for networking and professional development.
  • Access to a national network of ACC Members, alumni, and community partners.

Requirements

  • Passion for community service and connecting your neighbors to the digital tools, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Interest in gaining experience in community development or digital inclusion.

Eligibility:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Be 17 years of age or older by the start of service.
  • Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps State/National terms. 

Timeline:

We are currently recruiting Members to serve from September 8th, 2026 - August 13th, 2027. Members will serve full-time (approximately 40 hours per week), completing 1700 hours of service over the course of the term.

Benefits

Full-time ACC Members receive: 

  • A $33,000 living stipend (dispersed bi-weekly over the course of the service term)
  • A $7,395 Segal Education Award through AmeriCorps, which can be applied to education-related expenses after the program concludes (including repayment of qualifying student loans).
