DESCRIPTION

As the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at Bezos Academy, you will be responsible for leading the financial rhythms of the organization, including enterprise-wide annual and multi-year planning. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will evaluate and lead a team with the goal of providing trusted financial business partner perspectives to leaders across functions, creating tools and processes to support best decisions and consistently encourage a stewardship mindset in the shared pursuit of the organization’s mission and long-term priorities.    

In this hands-on role, you will utilize your problem-solving skills daily by inventing, simplifying, and making improvements to systems and processes to evolve and scale the organization. You will provide timely and relevant insights, analyze data, drive reporting improvements, and interact with various stakeholders. You thrive and succeed in a high-stakes environment, comfortably navigating ambiguity and competing priorities. Above all, you are inspired by our mission to expand access and invent the solutions needed to provide early education for all children.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt (salaried) position.  
• The full salary range for this position in Seattle, WA, is $173,000 - $293,000 per year. The upper third of the salary range is typically reserved for employees who have been in the role for multiple years and have demonstrated strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by qualifications and prior experience. 
• This role includes 15 paid days of vacation, 4 days of paid personal time off, 9 paid days of sick (care) time, 9 paid holidays, 5 paid days off for an organization-wide winter break, and additional time off if required by applicable law. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Ten years of relevant experience, with at least five years of people management and team leadership
• Demonstrated financial acumen and analytical experience delivering forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and data interpretation of results
• Strong analytical skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., proficiency in VBA/macros)
• Experience working with financial analytical tools, modeling methods, and reporting systems
• Understanding of US GAAP and internal control frameworks 
• Superior communication skills, including the ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems, present findings and recommendations in well-written documents of six pages or less, and convey key info to audiences with diverse levels of financial and technical knowledge

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• MBA, CPA, or advanced degree in a relevant field 
• Ability to work in a rapidly evolving, dynamic work environment
• Comfort and confidence in translating business objectives into financial data structures used to support measurement of performance, with a keen eye for simplification
• Proven track record of working in consultative partnership with other business leaders to effectively improve decision-making, steward financial resources, and drive results
• Demonstrated ability to automate and use systems to streamline business and financial reporting processes

The Office of Performance Analysis and Integrity manages and enhances the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) which resides on one Oracle M8 Supercluster database and thirteen application servers. Our team provides the technical services required to sustain EDW applications to include Project Management, Data Warehouse Management, Advanced Analytics, Tableau Server Administration/Tableau Desktop Administration, Technical Collaboration Support, Lessons Learned, Executive Orders and Special Projects, Architectural Enhancement, and Cloud Migration. • Monitor and optimize the performance of Power BI reports and dashboards to ensure they are running efficiently and effectively, minimizing load times, and enhancing user experience.
• Collaborate with business analysts, database administrators, and other VA stakeholders to understand business requirements and deliver Power BI solutions that meet expectations.
• Develop test plans and conduct thorough testing of Power BI reports and dashboards. Document software defects, resolve, and re-test to ensure the highest level of quality and reliability.
• Draft training materials and documentation as required and assist Business Analysts to provide training and support to end users on the use of developed software products.  
  Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups, ensuring timely delivery of Power BI development tasks.
• Solicit feedback from business stakeholders to gather UI/UX/CX insights of delivered Power BI reports, and document lessons-learned to inform future development efforts.
• Serve as a technical leader within the project team, mentoring junior developers, and providing guidance on best practices in software development, data integration, and system design.
