Software Engineer - Robotics & Autonomous Systems

Scale's Robotics business unit is dedicated to solving the data bottleneck in Physical AI across Robotics, Autonomous Vehicles, and Computer Vision. In this role, you'll be a key contributor building production systems for robotics data collection, model training pipelines, and evaluation infrastructure. You'll have the opportunity to own critical parts of our robotics platform, work directly with cutting-edge robotics and AV customers, and shape the future of embodied AI systems.

You Will:

• Own and architect large-scale data processing pipelines for robotics and autonomous vehicle datasets
• Build ML training and fine-tuning pipelines using Scale's robotics data
• Work across backend (Python, Node.js, C++), and frontend (React, TypeScript) stacks to build end-to-end solutions
• Develop tools and real-time systems for robotics data collection, teleoperation, model evaluation, data curation, and data annotation
• Interact directly with robotics and AV stakeholders to understand their technical needs and drive product development
• Design comprehensive monitoring and evaluation frameworks for robotics models and data quality
• Solving complex, late-stage industry challenges in concurrent and real-time robotic systems, with strict attention to timing constraints and data integrity. This often involves deep investigation, reviewing academic papers, and direct collaboration with robotics vendors
• Collaborate with ML engineers and researchers to bring robotics research into production
• Deliver features at high velocity while maintaining system reliability and performance

Ideally, You Have:

• At least 6 years of high-proficiency software engineering experience, with a strong background in complex systems and the ability to independently research, analyze, and unblock hard technical problems.
• Strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript/Node.js for production systems
• Experience with React and modern frontend development for 3D interfaces
• Concurrent and real-time systems, with special attention to timing constraints
• Understanding of distributed systems, workflow orchestration, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Temporal, Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience with databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL) and data processing at large scale
• Track record of working with cross-functional teams including ML engineers, researchers, and customers
• Strong communication skills and ability to operate with high autonomy

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with C++
• Experience with robotics hardware platforms (robotic arms, mobile robots, perception systems) with a focus on time synchronization
• Background in computer vision, SLAM, motion planning, or imitation learning
• Familiarity with autonomous vehicle data, lidar technologies, or 3D data processing
• Experience with ML model deployment and serving frameworks
• Knowledge of teleoperation systems (ALOHA, UMI, hand tracking) or VR interfaces
• Experience with workflow orchestration systems (Temporal, Airflow)
• Published research or open-source contributions in robotics or autonomous systems

We're looking for a Ssr QA Engineer to join our remote multicultural team and be part of the full development cycle of web and mobile apps: including understanding business needs, designing solutions for specific problems, and developing the product.

What are the main responsibilities of this role?

• Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases.
• Review clients needs and technical specifications with the development team, to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
• Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities of the project.
• Identify, record, document thoroughly and track bugs.
• Design, develop, and execute automation scripts (including Playwright-based automation).
• Design, develop and execute automation scripts.
• Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved.
• Track quality assurance metrics and reports.
• Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and strategies while encouraging the department technical improvement.
• Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and train development team to implement solutions to prevent them from happening in the future.
• Collaborate with internal initiatives.

• Experience using AI tools to optimize the testing process, including test case creation, bug reporting, edge case identification, and test automation.
• Hands-on experience with mobile testing (required).
• Experience with test automation, preferably using Playwright.
• Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., Claude or similar) to optimize testing processes, including test case creation, bug reporting, edge case identification, and automation support.

We're looking for a AI Engineer to join AI & Data Team. The Senior AI Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge AI solutions particularly those involving Large Language Models (LLMs), intelligent agents, and AI systems that integrate seamlessly into production-grade software. This person will work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating across teams to deliver intelligent, scalable, and reliable applications.

They will be responsible not only for crafting models and prototypes, but also for embedding these into robust applications, building APIs, writing clean code, and ensuring the operational success of AI-powered features in real-world environments.

The main objective of this role is to bridge AI innovation and software engineering excellence deploying LLMs, agents, and smart systems into full-stack products and production infrastructure.

What are the main responsibilities of this role? 

• Design and implement LLM-based solutions (e.g., RAG systems, multi-agent tools, copilots).
• Fine-tune, evaluate, and deploy open-source and proprietary foundation models.
• Build end-to-end AI-powered features in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
• Create scalable APIs and services to expose AI functionality to frontend/mobile clients.
• Own the lifecycle of AI features from experimentation to deployment and monitoring.
• Collaborate with DevOps to implement CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code for AI services.
• Implement observability, error tracking, and performance monitoring on deployed AI features.
• Evaluate and experiment with diverse AI frameworks and libraries (LangChain, Transformers, OpenAI SDKs, etc.).
• Lead technical discussions and mentor peers in AI best practices and architecture.
• Identify AI-driven product opportunities by working closely with clients or internal teams.

Which skills and experience do we envision for this role?

• +4 years of experience in AI/ML-focused roles with shipped software products.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs (OpenAI, Claude, Mistral, open-source models) and agent frameworks (LangChain, AutoGPT, etc.).
• Proficiency in prompt engineering, vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, etc.), and embedding strategies.
• Experience with testing AI systems using tools such as Promptfoo, Giskard, etc
• Solid Python skills, with experience building APIs using FastAPI, Django, or similar.
• Production experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and tools like Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes.
• Good software development practices: testing, code reviews, version control (Git), and modular design.
• Experience deploying and monitoring AI systems in production.
• Familiarity with MLOps and model deployment workflows is a plus.
