GiveWell is a research organization that identifies and funds cost-effective giving opportunities, focusing on global health and well-being. Our work is funded by tens of thousands of donors who rely on our research to inform their giving. We’ve grown from directing $1.5 million in 2010 to directing more than $400 million in 2025.
GiveWell is seeking a Senior Water Researcher to help direct tens of millions of dollars annually to the most cost-effective water interventions we can find. You will have an outsized influence on our funding decisions and help us save and improve lives on a global scale.
Our water grantmaking has historically focused on improving drinking water quality through chlorination — primarily chlorine dispensers and in-line chlorination — in low- and middle-income countries with a high burden of waterborne disease. In 2025, we ran a public Request for Information (RFI) that resulted in 18 pilot grants to 12 implementing partners across six African countries, totaling roughly $20 million. In 2026, we are beginning to pivot from a narrow focus on chlorination toward a broader exploration of the water sector. This includes investigating alternative water quality interventions (e.g., filtration, in-line ultraviolet disinfection, chemical contamination remediation), different clean water delivery models (e.g. diarrheal outbreak prevention and response, safe water enterprises), exploring water access and infrastructure layering with multilaterals such as the World Bank, market shaping for chlorine supply chains and measurement technology, and R&D for hardware and better service delivery models.
As a Senior Water Researcher, you'll create and lead ambitious research agendas related to our portfolios of work and answer complex questions that will inform GiveWell's grantmaking decisions. The researchers on our team combine rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment.
We're open to a wide variety of professional development pathways depending on your preferences and our needs.
You will be joining a small grantmaking team to contribute to our ambitious research agenda on water. You'll sift through the countless questions we could try to answer, and hone in on those that matter most. You'll also communicate externally about your work and mentor and advise other researchers on the team.
You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions the GiveWell water team faces. Your work will combine empirical evidence review and critical synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment.
What you might work on in your first year:
The Senior Water Researcher will help shape a major annual grantmaking portfolio, own grant investigations end-to-end (from research question through grant recommendation), and represent GiveWell to external counterparts. You'll have significant latitude to propose new areas of work.
Our research department has over 60 people, and is currently organized into eight teams:
There are currently three people on our water team.
We think our research team has unique qualities:
We expect the Senior Water Researcher to have
We expect that people with the soft qualities below will be the most successful and happy on our team. This isn’t a full list, but hopefully it conveys the gist of our team’s professional personality:
If you’re interested in working on GiveWell’s research team but don’t have water expertise, consider applying to our generalist Senior Researcher role, or our Researcher role if you have limited post-graduation experience.
Miscellaneous details:
GiveWell is dedicated to finding and funding outstanding giving opportunities in global health and development, sharing the full details of our analysis with everyone for free. Our giving funds enable donors to contribute to the most impactful and cost-effective programs our researchers identify.
Since 2007, we’ve directed over $2.6 billion to cost-effective programs and interventions. In the last two years, we’ve made more than $500 million in grants. GiveWell is one of the world’s largest private funders of global development efforts, and we estimate that the funding we’ve directed will save more than 340,000 lives.
GiveWell is most well-known for recommending a small number of Top Charities, which currently support seasonal malaria chemoprevention, antimalarial nets, vaccine incentivization, and vitamin A supplementation. However, most of our research capacity is devoted to finding cost-effective opportunities outside of those programs.
GiveWell grants have:
We never take for granted that GiveWell’s work is good for the world. We make our reasoning public and transparent so others can challenge it (sometimes we even pay people to point out our errors). We go to unusual lengths to check our assumptions and assess our impact, including funding research and external analysis to address our uncertainties and insisting that our grantees conduct rigorous monitoring and evaluation. We change our minds when the evidence demands it.
We don’t want to miss candidates that could do great things at GiveWell. Practically, that means a GiveWell staff member reviews every application carefully, considering the whole picture of your background and potential. If you’re on the fence about applying because you meet some but not 100% of our preferred qualifications (some studies suggest this hesitation is especially common for women and people of color), we encourage you to apply anyway.
GiveWell is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer by choice. At minimum, this means that we comply with all federal, state, and local EEO and employment laws. Beyond the requirements of those laws, we value our team’s diversity in all respects, and we desire to maintain a work environment free of harassment or discrimination—we want our team members to thrive at GiveWell. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, contact us at careers@givewell.org. We will consider employment for qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
By submitting an application, you acknowledge that you have read and consent to GiveWell’s Privacy Statement for Applicants. By completing an application exercise, you acknowledge and assent to GiveWell’s Work Trial Policy.

Our livelihoods team is organized around thematic verticals, which includes cash transfers, broader social protection programs, education programs, and support for small and medium sized businesses in low-income countries. About Tailscale
Tailscale is building the new Internet by delivering software that makes it easy to securely interconnect people and their devices, no matter where they are. From hobbyists to multinational corporations, teams of every size use Tailscale each day to protect their networks, share access to internal tools, and more. We're building a future for the Internet that's easy, sensible, and safe, like it used to be. Founded in 2019 and fully distributed, we're backed by Accel, CRV, Insight, Heavybit, and Uncork Capital.
Job Description
We are looking for a Staff Product Designer to join the design team at Tailscale. You will primarily partner with the Network Features team, which owns one of the most technically complex and strategically important surfaces in the product: how traffic finds its destination, how networks are segmented and connected, and how operators control that behavior at scale.
That spans a wide range. On the user-facing side, Admin users orchestrate their networks by configuring settings related to: subnet routing, exit nodes, App Connectors, Services, and DNS. On the infrastructure side, you’ll interface with topics like: traffic steering, high availability, DERP servers, and cloud networking primitives. These are not features with obvious consumer analogues. The users are network engineers, IT administrators, and developers building on top of Tailscale, and the problems they bring are genuinely hard to make simple.
At the staff level, scope is not handed to you. You will define where design attention is needed across this space, lead discovery on problems that don't yet have clear answers, and shape product direction alongside your engineering and PM partners. A significant part of that work is translation: taking abstract technical systems and surfacing the design problems hidden inside them clearly enough that engineers, PMs, and stakeholders can align on what to solve and why. Diagramming, system mapping, and other artifacts that make complexity legible are tools you reach for naturally, not as documentation but as a way of driving shared understanding and unblocking decisions. Your influence will extend beyond your immediate projects, affecting how the broader design team approaches craft, process, and product thinking.
You will report to the product design manager and work closely with a team of five product designers and one design researcher. Most of your time will be spent embedded with the Network Features team, with some involvement in wider design team or product initiatives.
People who do well here are genuinely curious about networking and security, comfortable going deep on technically complex domains, and fluent working asynchronously with highly technical teammates.
Key Responsibilities
What We Are Looking For
As a company, we strive to maintain fair and equitable compensation practices within our team across all roles and all levels. Tailscale's compensation package includes base salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits. The salary range displayed on each job posting represents the target range for a new hire's base salary. Individual offers may vary based on experience and skill set.
Frequently cited statistics show that people who identify with historically marginalized groups are likely to apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to help us break that statistic!

You will be joining a small grantmaking team to contribute to our ambitious research agenda on malaria. You’ll sift through the countless questions we could try to answer, and honing in on those that matter most. You’ll also communicate externally about your work and mentor and advise other researchers on the team.
You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions the GiveWell malaria team faces. Your work will combine empirical evidence review and critical synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment. In the course of your work, you might approach questions like these:
Our research department has over 60 people, and is currently organized into seven teams:
Our malaria team has three subteams: two of them focus on grantmaking in vector control and chemoprevention, respectively, and the third is focused on cross-team research questions. You might sit on any of the three teams.
We think our research team has unique qualities:
We expect the Senior Malaria Researcher to have
We expect that people with the soft qualities below will be the most successful and happy on our team. This isn’t a full list, but hopefully it conveys the gist of our team’s professional personality:
If you’re interested in working on GiveWell’s research team but don’t have malaria expertise, consider applying to our generalist Senior Researcher role.

Our work is funded by tens of thousands of donors who rely on our research to inform their giving. We’ve grown from directing $1.5 million in 2010 to directing more than $400 million in 2025.

This is primarily a project management role, providing key support to GiveWell researchers during their research and grant investigations.
Responsibilities include:
We are growing and changing quickly, so above all we seek a team player who is flexible, organized, and eager to proactively seek out ways to support the team so that we can do more work, better.
In addition, we expect you will be characterized by many of the below qualities. Exceptions may be made for excellent applicants who do not meet these criteria:
Why this role might not be a good fit:
This Project Manager role is primarily focused on project management and operational excellence. We want to be transparent about some situations where candidates may struggle or be unsatisfied:
After the initial application, our application process uses a mixture of interviews and work trials, the first of which is anonymized before grading.
The work trials in our process allow us to better understand how applicants’ skills will translate to the work we do and allows you to learn more about our work. They also reduce bias in our hiring process — we’re better able to hire candidates with nontraditional backgrounds who nonetheless excel in our trials.
Our typical interview process for this role includes the following stages, though we may adjust based on the specific needs of the search:
You will receive communication about whether you are advancing after each stage of the process. We strive to respond to applications within two weeks across all stages of the process; however, we expect a large volume of applications for this particular position and may not be able to achieve our desired response times. Let us know if you have specific circumstances (e.g., a competing offer or tighter timeline) that could impact timing.
Please note that this role was previously titled "Program Associate." The position itself remains unchanged — we updated the title to "Project Manager" to better reflect the nature of the work.
If you have questions about the process before you begin, feel free to reach out to us at careers@givewell.org.

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is hiring an AI Researcher to join the HAIL team. HAIL (HRT AI Labs) is the team at HRT responsible for developing and maintaining our most powerful models, which are used by our trading teams to drive a significant fraction of our trading. We are building and deploying "foundation models for markets", that ingest and train on vast amounts of market data, to make predictions about future market state. We are seeking experienced AI researchers to join our team to accelerate our efforts.
Researchers have great independence to pursue the research directions they think would be most impactful as part of a small focused team with minimal bureaucracy. They are enabled by state-of-the-art research clusters with very high GPU-to-researcher ratios, and supported by excellent engineering, hardware, and systems teams to realize their vision. Your work will be directly, clearly, highly impactful on the business, and it will be challenging: this is a field with no easy or obvious solutions. You'll be responsible for improving every part of our models: from featurization of data, to architecture design, to training dynamics, to how trading decisions are made.
Qualifications
The estimated base salary range for this position is 200,000 to 300,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and enrollment in our company’s retirement savings plans. Employees will receive sick and parental leave, as well as other paid time off (including 20 vacation days and 10 paid holidays in the US). Please note that benefits and time off policies will vary across non-US locations.

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
Every time Anthropic releases a model, we publish a system card: a long-form technical document that describes the model's capabilities, safety properties, evaluation results, and the reasoning behind our deployment decisions. System cards are some of the most consequential and widely read documents we produce, and they are one way we hold ourselves publicly accountable for the safety claims we make.
We're hiring a Research Operations Specialist to help own system card production. You'll work embedded with research and safety teams through each launch, coordinating contributions from dozens of researchers, holding the schedule and the open-threads list, and making sure the document ships on time as a single, accurate, internally consistent whole. Along the way you'll do real editorial work: turning results and researcher notes into clear, honest prose and pushing back when an explanation doesn't hold together.
System cards sit within a wider family of external safety artifacts, including risk reports and Responsible Scaling Policy updates. Part of this role is keeping the system card consistent with those documents so that Anthropic's public safety story reads as one coherent account rather than several.
This role sits in Research Operations and works closely with Alignment, Safeguards, Frontier Red Team, and capabilities research. The core of the job is part project management, part translation: keeping a complex, many-author, hard-deadline document on track while making frontier safety research legible to researchers, policymakers, journalists, and the public — without sacrificing precision.
The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate Anthropic recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit anthropic.com/careers directly for confirmed position openings.
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. At Upstart, we’re united by a mission that matters: to radically reduce the cost and complexity of borrowing for all Americans. Every day, we bring creativity, experimentation, and advanced AI to reshape access to credit, helping millions move forward financially with clarity and confidence.
As the leading AI lending marketplace, we partner with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit through technology that’s both radically intelligent and deeply human. We’re proudly digital-first, giving most Upstarters the flexibility to do their best work from wherever they thrive, alongside teammates across 80+ cities in the US and Canada. Digital-first doesn’t mean distant. We’re intentional about in-person connection through team onsites, planning sessions, and moments that spark creativity and trust. And whether you choose to work primarily from home or collaborate in-person from one of our offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City (opening Summer 2026), you’ll have the support to work in the way that works best for you.
If you’re energized by tackling meaningful problems, excited to innovate with purpose, and motivated by work that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.
The Team:
Upstart's Product Experience team brings together product design, research, and content strategy to shape the future of lending. Content Design and User Research are cross-cutting craft specialties that serve every pillar — essential to journey quality and informed decision-making across the team.
As the Principal UX Researcher reporting to the VP of Product Design, you will establish Upstart's dedicated UX research practice. Today, product designers conduct their own research as needed and the Consumer Insights team provides market and customer intelligence — but there's no shared UX research methodology or consistent way to connect customer behavior insights to product design decisions. You'll bridge that gap: defining how UX research gets done, equipping designers and PMs to conduct foundational research well, and leading the strategic studies that influence decisions across Upstart's lending products.
