We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, to collaborate with other developers in writing well-designed, testable code. You will be working with a team of passionate technology professionals, developing with modern technologies, and solving tough problems. Our team is hands-on, collaborative and driven. Your role and responsibilities 

Software Development Quality & Standards 

• Participating in regular code reviews
• Standardisation of technologies, approaches, and architectures across teams
• Active engagement with the development teams on all areas of software development

Agile Collaboration & Team Enablement 

• Liaise with agile coaches and product owners in order to resolve team impediments
• Working with agile coaches, technical leads, development managers, and the executive team to drive architectural changes in projects and deliver on initiatives
• Understanding the interdependency of work items and teams

Process Improvement & Operational Efficiency 

• Active monitoring of the software development process and continuous improvement thereof
• Work with the various development and technical support teams to resolve any production issues timeously and efficiently, keeping business impact to a minimum

You are an ideal candidate if you have 

• At least 7 years of work-related experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer
• Ideally have an IT Diploma or Degree
• Ability to develop software in .Net 8 C#, Javascript, ReactJs, HTML, CSS and other programming languages (polyglots preferred)
• Excellent knowledge of Postgres, Mssql technologies (EF, NHibernate)
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases such as Redis, Riak, MongoDB, and others.
• Experience developing web applications, with a good understanding of how the web works
• Proven experience in high-scale applications and an understanding of the practices and approaches that are employed in scaling applications beneficial.
• Experience with unit testing, knowledge of applying test-driven development beneficial
• Understanding DevOps principals and how to apply them practically beneficial.
• Experience in cloud services preferred – AWS, Azure.
• Experience with containerisation (Docker, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, Appveyor) highly beneficial.
• Experience working with agile methodologies – a true believer.

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineer III to serve as a key individual contributor responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining robust Data Technology Systems across the entire Modern Data Stack (Data Integration, Storage, Transformation, and Governance). This role demands deep technical proficiency and architectural foresight, requiring the candidate to be hands-on, capable of diving deep into any part of the stack, and executing complex technical work efficiently. 

As a senior member of the team, you will spearhead technical and infrastructure innovation, mature our code base and development processes, and provide essential technical guidance and mentorship to Junior and Intermediate Data Engineers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Analytics Engineers and Product Managers, to ensure the delivery of optimized data pipelines and reliable, high-impact data products.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Technical
• Design and build robust, scalable, and high-performance ETL/ELT data pipelines
• Develop and implement solutions using advanced programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, DBT)
• Optimize and performance-tune complex data workflows and queries to handle massive data volumes and ensure minimal latency
• Assist with the design and implementation of data models for Data Warehouses (Snowflake etc.)
• Implement data quality frameworks (validation, monitoring, and testing) to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness
• Establish comprehensive error logging and alerting systems for pipeline health and failure remediation
• Apply DevOps practices to data infrastructure, often involving Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

• 5+ years experience in the Data industry
  • 4+ years experience in a Data Engineering role
• Expert in SQL to then implement where needed in Data Warehousing systems and Data Pipelines
• PostgreSQL / MySQL / Python / R / Redshift / Snowflake experience
• Experience in database design and database management
• A sound understanding of data management principles, including data quality assurance and data governance
• Experience in source code and version control systems
• Experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform) 
• Familiarity working with containerized services (Docker and Kubernetes)
• Experience in the shipment of data using various methods, such as ETL/ELT, within tools such as Airflow (MWAA), Argo, dbt
• Experience using services within the AWS ecosystem (e.g, RDS, EC2, Redshift, EKS)
• Understanding or knowledge of Linux commands (bash scripting)
• Manages multiple projects, resolves challenges swiftly, delivers adaptable approaches, and values diverse opinions.
• Takes ownership, anticipates new problems, tests solutions, and mentors on effective problem-solving techniques.
• Sets quarterly goals aligned with team objectives, tracks progress in Workday, and communicates barriers to the manager. Takes personal responsibility for quality and timeliness of work, correcting mistakes and learning from them.

About the role: 

The Engineering Manager for the DevTools team leads a group focused on building internal developer platforms (IDPs), tooling, and services that enable product delivery teams to move quickly, safely, and efficiently. This role is designed for a technical leader who thrives at the intersection of high-scale systems architecture and people development. You will champion our developer portal, treating our internal developers as customers to build seamless, self-service tooling that removes cognitive load and accelerates product delivery. You ensure your team delivers high quality, secure, and reliable software aligned with product and infrastructure roadmaps. You partner closely with Product Management, Platform Engineering, and internal delivery teams to define, build, and operate foundational tooling such as containerized application systems, CI/CD workflows, platform integrations, and shared infrastructure capabilities.  

Your contribution will be: 

Engineering Leadership: 

- Ensure the team produces high-quality, secure, well tested code. 

- Provide technical direction for developer platforms and shared tooling. 

- Guide design and architecture decisions with clear tradeoffs. 

- Promote best practices for scalability, resilience, security, performance, and reliability. 

- Oversee service reliability and ensure systems meet SLOs and SLIs. 

- Ensure CI/CD pipelines and automation support delivery teams. 

Delivery & Execution: 

- Run the team using agile principles with meaningful metrics. 

- Maintain visibility into risks, technical debt, dependencies. 

- Partner with Product Management to shape and prioritize the backlog. 

- Ensure timely delivery of features and platform capabilities. 

- Participate in incident management and follow-up improvements. 

Team Management: 

- Coach and develop engineers with growth plans. 

- Lead hiring and workforce planning. 

- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. 

Technical Expertise: 

- IDP Tooling: Experience with ArgoCD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Pulumi). Experience with Backstage or similar internal portals is a significant plus. 

- Cloud Native Ecosystem: Understanding of Kubernetes, container security, and service mesh within Azure/AWS environments. 

- DevEx Metrics: Familiarity with tracking DORA metrics and Developer Experience (DevEx) signals to measure the platform's impact on velocity and quality. 

To be successful, we think you need:   

• 2+ years experience in leading a team
• 6+ years of strong experience and background in software engineering (Javascript, NodeJS, ReactJS, Relational and Non-Relational Databases)
• Strong experience in Kubernetes & Containerization.

• Lead design and implementation of A/B tests on Data Science projects/models implemented to determine and size success of solutions. 
• Collaborate with engineers and ML engineers to support productionization efforts, including code development, testing, and integration into the 2U software ecosystem.
• Partner with stakeholders and product to gain domain knowledge, understand requirements, and contribute to planning development tasks and projects.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

• Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics or other quantitative field required
• 5-10 years of experience in data science or related role
• Proven track record of delivering production-grade machine learning models and data science products that drove significant business impact
• Demonstrated experience designing and analyzing online controlled experiments (A/B testing)
• Proven experience applying analytical techniques such as classification, regression, cluster analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive modeling 
• Strong proficiency in Python and other object-oriented programming languages (R, Java, Scala, or similar)
• Advanced SQL skills and experience querying relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Solid understanding of applied statistics
• Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, Domo, or similar platforms) 
• Familiarity with data engineering concepts and ETL processes 
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while receiving moderate guidance and direction
