To strengthen our finance team, we are looking for a General Ledger Accountant to support accounting activities for Bulgaria and the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Daily accounting activities
• Month-end closing in accordance with US GAAP and Bulgarian GAAP
• Preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
• Account reconciliation and analysis of balance sheet and P&L accounts
• Support in consolidation processes according to US GAAP
• Coordination with internal teams, HQ and external stakeholders (auditors, tax advisors)
• Participation in the development and improvement of accounting processes
• Documentation of accounting processes and internal procedures

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in General Ledger
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Bulgarian GAAP
• Basic tax knowledge (Bulgaria)
• Experience with month-end closing processes
• Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
• Experience with ERP systems and strong Excel skills
• Hands-on and proactive approach
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently

The Opportunity

We are looking for a proactive Senior Accountant to join our growing accounting and finance team.  The Senior Accountant will be a key contributor to the monthly and year-end closing processes, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reports. This role will also be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and the subsequent booking of all payroll-related journal entries. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GAAP, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record of managing complex accounting tasks. In this role, you will gain broad exposure to the Company’s full-cycle accounting processes and provide support for the Sr. Corporate Accounting Manager. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to scale up in their accounting career.

What You'll Do:

• Execute monthly and quarterly accounting close tasks including preparing/reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Perform monthly and ad-hoc analyses of financial trends.
• Process payroll on a timely and accurate basis for all employees and book the related journal entries.
• Resolve any payroll-related issues and inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
• Assist in the preparation of various supporting schedules and analyses for internal financial and external financial statements, tax, and audits.
• Act as a mentor for junior accounting staff, providing guidance and training on accounting principles and best practices.
• Assist with maintaining and scaling our accounting and reporting process.
• Support optimization and automation efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting processes.
• Collaborate and serve as a liaison to other departments on accounting matters, including but not limited to engineering, sales, IT, HR, marketing, etc.
• Participate in ad-hoc projects and assignments as needed.

What You'll Need:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 5 years experience in audit with a mid to large size public accounting firm or 3-5 years experience with a small to mid size technology/software company.
• Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Self-starter with a proven track record of grit and determination to drive process improvements.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, including the ability to work collaboratively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel (vlookup and pivot tables).
• Ability to work on a cross functional basis, build and nurture relationships across the organization.

A Plus if you have:

• Working knowledge of NetSuite.
• Experience in payroll processing and payroll accounting.
• CPA or on track to get your CPA.

Location -  Sofia, Bulgaria - Hybrid in office 1-2 days a week
