About the Role

The PJ (Business Account) team is a rapidly scaling unit within Nubank. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join this high-impact team, strategically helping the growth in Brazil and beyond.

In this role, you will sit at the intersection of Product and Platform. While we are a business-focused team dedicated to moving core metrics, you will also navigate global platform challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and implementation of scalable systems that power the PJ app experience for millions of business customers.
• Partner with Global Platform teams to integrate core services while maintaining a product-driven focus.
• Drive business outcomes by translating entrepreneur-specific challenges into robust, high-performance software solutions.
• Maintain technical excellence within the team through architectural discussions, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Collaborate cross-functionally across different Business Units to ensure seamless integration and a unified customer experience.

Required qualifications

• Ideally, has experience in Flutter and mobile architecture, and is equally comfortable navigating Clojure/BDC backend systems, from authentication flows and token management to BDC expressions and backend providers
• Wants to own the architectural vision for how PJ customers access, navigate, and experience their business finances, shaping decisions that will define how PJ scales across products, segments, and countries
• Can hold the platform and product tension simultaneously, thinking in systems while staying close to the customer experience, because the foundations you design directly determine what AXP can build and how fast they can ship
• Has a track record of driving alignment on hard architectural problems across multiple teams and stakeholders, bringing clarity to spaces where the path forward is genuinely unclear
• Wants to work on a horizontal, high-visibility role where your technical decisions have reach well beyond your own squad, influencing how authentication, app experience, and platform infrastructure evolve across PJ and Nubank

This role can be based in our offices in São Paulo and Campinas (Brazil) in a hybrid model (2x per week in the office), or according to current policies for the PJ team.

Opportunity

We are hiring a Senior Staff or Principal Engineer to support driving the technical vision and execution for Nubank’s Digital Ecosystem division, with initial focus on NuPay, Ads & Rewards and Insurance. This is a division‑level leadership role: you will work with exceptional engineers (including staff engineers), lead cross‑org architectural decisions, negotiate trade‑offs with product/finance/legal, and enable scalable delivery of high‑impact products (checkout & wallet, advertiser platform and benefits hub, and 1‑click insurance products).

2026's vision and (how this role contributes) 

In 2026 we will transform the Digital Ecosystem into a place where customers discover advantages, pay effortlessly and feel protected, and where merchants grow through data‑driven integrated partnerships. Our priorities are: (1) elevating app quality, (2) deepening customer engagement with contextual and personalized experiences, (3) making Nubank the preferred payments partner and growth engine for merchants, and (4) ensuring scalable, compliant, and financially healthy foundations. This role will own the technical plan to deliver that vision across NuPay, Ads & Rewards and Insurance.

Mission design and operationalize the 2–3 year technical end‑state for the Digital Ecosystem so that:

• NuPay scales to become the de facto checkout and wallet for Nubank customers (TPV ×2 by Dec/26; wallet >3M MAU),
• Ads & Rewards delivers the Advantages Tab, a performant advertiser platform and Ads POC with merchants, and drives material ecosystem revenue,
• Insurance launches and scales high‑quality one‑click complements (Mobile Insurance Relaunch, Pix Protegido evolution), while maintaining aggressive SLOs, strong observability, controlled TCO and an elevated engineering culture.

Core responsibilities

• Support defining the division’s technical end‑state (2–3 years): architecture, shard/partition strategy, migration path (one‑stack) and explicit trade‑offs (cost × latency × availability).
• Co-own availability and performance: set SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, runbooks, incident playbooks and an observability strategy that supports merchants with strict SLAs.
• Support Ads & Rewards platform design: advertiser platform (audience & campaign management), decision/bidding service, real‑time vs batch decisioning, measurement & attribution (ROAS/incrementality), and minimise impact on app UX.
• Drive NuPay ↔ Ads integration for aspirational purchases: real‑time underwriting, multi‑source funding, take‑rate modelling, card‑on‑file / wallet flows and onboarding for flagship merchants.
• Enable Insurance delivery: technical enablement for one‑click products, partner integration and governance (e.g., Chubb), migration to subscription/billing platform where applicable, and app quality improvements (TTFD, dashboards, NPS).
• Support one‑stack discovery and phased migration: balance platformization with pragmatic delivery and tech‑debt management to avoid blocking growth.
• Catalyse product quality culture: introduce and operationalize Product Quality Reviews, drive app excellence rituals, and ensure UX/technical quality are considered across the product lifecycle.
• Mentor and grow engineering leaders and staff engineers; run RFCs, tech talks and post‑mortems; design career paths and enable managers to deliver cross‑BU initiatives.
• Represent the division in cross‑org negotiations and external partner discussions (merchants, partners, regulators), aligning stakeholders and escalating risks proactively.
• Track and report technical impact against business metrics and engineering health indicators.

About the role

Our Engineering team helps Nubank to create and use the technology that provides us to build the best financial products. We strive for state-of-the-art software development practices that currently include a variety of technologies. • Strong background in object-oriented or functional programming languages, with ability to work across multiple languages
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives across multiple teams without direct authority
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and raising the technical bar across organizations
• Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies and previous experience with CI/CD

Principal Engineer, Mobile Platforms

The Opportunity:

This position is for an Engineer Principal (IC9) to join the Mobile Platforms BU.

Mobile Platforms is the BU responsible for Nubank’s entire mobile foundation: we design, build, and operate the platforms that power the Nubank app across all markets. The BU is organized in three business areas – App Foundations (core architecture, app startup, developer experience), App Enablement (navigation performance, Backend Driven Content/BDC, design system infra & Rosetta), and App Release (CI/CD, release train, observability, app analytics & data). Together, these areas provide the canonical Flutter + BDC architecture, tooling, and guardrails that enable product teams to ship a fast, reliable, and consistent app at global scale.

• Has deep expertise in mobile architecture (Flutter/Dart, native bridges, modularization, mono-repo architectures) and can design end‑to‑end solutions spanning app startup, navigation, state management, and release lifecycle.
• Understands and can evolve BDC (Backend Driven Content) as Nubank’s main server‑driven UI platform, defining how BDC, Flutter and NuDS work together to enable safe, fast iteration without depending on store releases.
• Is capable of setting the technical vision for the three Mobile Platforms business areas (App Foundations, App Enablement, App Release), connecting architecture choices with company‑level goals such as App Excellence, Magic App and Destination Architecture.
• Has a strong track record of leading large, ambiguous cross‑org initiatives – e.g., native‑to‑Flutter/BDC migrations, app startup refactors, navigation performance programs, or observability/analytics redesigns – influencing dozens of squads and multiple BUs.
• Drives platform engineering at scale: defines canonical patterns, RFCs and reference implementations; creates reusable tools/libraries; and ensures that internal customers can adopt the platform with low friction and high quality.
• Is comfortable leading through influence: aligning PMs, EMs, Staff/Principal engineers and leadership on trade‑offs (performance vs. flexibility, platform vs. product), and making tough calls grounded in data, risk and long‑term sustainability.
• Invests heavily in technical leadership and mentorship, raising the bar for senior engineers across Mobile Platforms and product BUs, and building a strong culture around architecture reviews, design docs, and post‑incident learning.
• Cares deeply about observability, reliability and release health for mobile: tying together app metrics (startup, TTFD, crashes, jank), CI/CD, feature rollout (BDC + app releases) and on‑call practices into a coherent strategy.
• Is motivated by working on a horizontal, high‑impact platform that directly shapes how every experience in the Nubank app is built, released and monitored, across Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and future markets.

The Role

We’re looking for our first engineer on the ground in Brazil — a builder at heart who thrives on ownership and impact. This isn’t just another engineering role; it’s a chance to lay the foundations of our presence in Latin America while shaping the future of telecom globally. 

At Gigs, you won’t just be integrating APIs or solving backend puzzles (though you’ll do plenty of that). You’ll be building the backbone of products that empower millions to connect in new ways. As the first engineering hire in Brazil, you’ll also be a culture-setter: collaborating closely with teams in Europe and the US, helping us define best practices locally, and proving that world-class innovation doesn’t stop at Silicon Valley or Berlin.

We’ve already built a stellar early team in Brazil, with experience from top local companies like Nubank and other high-performing scale-ups. We’re now looking for the first engineer on the ground to help define how we build, ship, and operate locally.

What You Will Do

• Own complex problems end-to-end, from designing and building robust, scalable solutions to ensuring a high standard of quality across our engineering practice.
• Integrate with and maintain a wide range of APIs and external systems, primarily in Ruby. You'll architect solutions that abstract diverse external behaviors and manage the complexities of asynchronous flows, distributed state synchronization, and dynamic data validation.
• Tackle the unique challenge of building a new telco operating system. This involves deep integration with existing telecom networks and a high degree of cross-organizational collaboration to push projects forward and develop innovative products.
• Maintain the reliability of our systems, building for observability and participating in incident response. This includes coordinating advanced retry logic and contributing to support rotations for intricate external system interactions.
