Position Overview
Woolpert is hiring a hiring a Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic Transportation team at any of our Pennsylvania offices. This position reports to the National Traffic Team Lead and is responsible for completing traffic signal design plans and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) services, in addition to, but not limited to signing and pavement marking plans, traffic control design, traffic impact studies, crash analysis, traffic calming designs, HOP reviews, etc.
Candidate is preferred to sit in one of our Pennsylvania offices (Harrisburg, Sharpsburg or King of Prussia). This is still a hybrid role and time in the office is negotiable.
We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.
Qualified candidates may be eligible for a signing bonus of up to $5,000, based on experience and role alignment. Bonus eligibility is contingent upon 12 months of service and must be repaid if the employee leaves the company within one year of hire.
What You Will Do:
- Performs engineering computations, conducts evaluations, design analyses, and design development.
- Prepares reports, recommendations and opinions for approval.
- Aid in design or oversee staff in the design of projects.
- Applies standard engineering practices and techniques to adjust and correlate data; recognizes and resolves discrepancies in results and follows operations through a series of related steps or processes.
- Works as a member of project team in the development of data and/or applications.
- Willing and able to sign and seal plans in the State of Pennsylvania or the ability to file for reciprocity.
- Ability and willingness to work across geographies. This is in terms of work type, not necessarily required to travel.
- Able to help train and mentor less experienced staff.
What You Will Bring:
- Must have 4 years related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
- Experience in the field of Traffic Engineering is required.
- PE License or the ability to obtain one is required.
- Experience in Civil 3D or Bentley/Microsoft products is required.
- Must be able to read, analyze and interpret basic scientific, technical, financial and legal documents.
- Must be able to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
- Must have average verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external relationships.
- Must be able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the business community.
- Must have Microsoft Office suite skills.
- Must be familiar with discipline related software applications.

Roadway Project Engineer
We have an exciting career opportunity for a Project Engineer with our Civil Roadway team. The ideal candidate has experience with civil transportation design and comprehensive knowledge of roadway projects and developing plans in accordance with local DOT standards.
Location
This position will be a hybrid position in any of our Pennsylvania offices including Allentown, King of Prussia, Pittsburgh, Pottsville, or Wilkes-Barre.

Structural Designer
Join our growing Structural team as a Structural Bridge Designer. In this role you will work on various structural design projects with state and local transportation agencies. As a Designer you will perform engineering models, analysis and/or designs, and supporting calculations / documentation. You will also coordinate the drafting of project elements for various clients. This role will be located at any of our Pennsylvania offices - Pottsville, Allentown, and King of Prussia
The Impact You Will Have
- Collect and assimilate data and perform modeling, analysis and/or design calculations of project elements.
- Draw design details under direction of Project Managers.
- Compute quantities and demonstrate awareness of relationships to pay items.
- Organize calculations to be included in design files, following project standards.
- Coordinate drafting of an element.
- Perform field or site visits as needed.
- Develop knowledge of applicable codes and standards and use of applicable CADD and Microsoft software.
What You Will Need
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
- E.I.T (or desire to obtain P.E. in the future) preferred.
- Knowledgeable in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a team environment on challenging projects.
- Willingness to be adaptable to office and field inspection tasks.
- The position may include the need to perform Field Inspection and may require travel to project sites.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written - e-mails, project memos, reports, etc.)
- Detailed, and organized individual who thrives in environments that are deadline driven.

Structural Project Engineer
Our Pottsville office is looking to hire a Structural Project Engineer. The ideal candidate will be a licensed PE in Pennsylvania, have a minimum of 6 years of experience and will work within a team of professionals designing, load rating and inspecting bridge structures preferably with PennDOT and PTC. We are looking for someone who is highly and internally motivated, wants to work on complex and engaging projects, and desires increasing levels of responsibility. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, a team player and looking to advance their career.
Location
This position will have a hybrid work schedule and, when in the office, will work from any of our Pennsylvania offices.
The Impact You Will Have
- Serve as lead engineer on a variety of bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects
- Mentor junior staff and assist with the growth and development of the structural staff in the Pottsville office
- Prepare and review structural and geometrical calculations for bridge design projects
- Assume responsibility for assigned design calculation files and plans assuring adequate independent QC reviews on that work
- Manage the process of compiling and coordinating plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items in accordance with PennDOT/PTC standards
- Prepare and review bridge load rating reports to PennDOT/PTC design standards
- Plan and perform bridge inspections to PennDOT/PTC design standards
- Prepare and review bridge inspection reports to PennDOT/PTC design standards
- Coordinate the above tasks with the Project Manager
- Lead structural designers and inspectors on bridge design, load rating and inspection projects
What We Are Looking For
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
- PE License in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain through reciprocity
- Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI) – not required, but preferred
- Minimum of 6 years of bridge design, load rating and inspection experience
- Experience working with PennDOT, PA Turnpike, PTC and/or municipalities
- Excellent communication and client relation skills
- Progressive experience with developing contract and utilizing MicroStation Connects, Open Roads and Open Bridge Design software
