What You’ll Be Doing 

We're looking for an Engineering Team Lead to lead one of our product engineering teams here at Capital on Tap.

This is a people-first leadership role. You'll be responsible for the growth, wellbeing, and performance of a team of engineers, while staying technically credible enough to shape direction, remove blockers, and raise the bar on quality. You won't be the best coder in the room you'll be the person who makes the whole room better.

If you're an experienced Team Lead Engineer looking to own a team in a scaling fintech, this role is built for you.

What You'll Own

Your team. Hiring, developing, and retaining engineers. Running 1:1s that actually matter. Spotting who's ready to grow and creating the space for them to do it.

Delivery. Partnering with Product and QA to plan and ship reliably not by micromanaging, but by removing obstacles, managing risk, and keeping the team focused on what matters.

Culture. Setting the tone for how the team communicates, gives feedback, and holds itself accountable. Building psychological safety without sacrificing standards.

Technical credibility. You won't be heads-down in the codebase every day, but you'll understand the trade-offs your team is navigating architecture decisions, technical debt, build vs buy and contribute meaningfully to those conversations.

What We're Looking For

Leadership first. You've managed engineers before and have a point of view on what good looks like. You know how to have hard conversations, give developmental feedback, and motivate people.

Technical foundation in .NET. Our backend is C#/.NET Core and you'll need enough depth to earn trust with your engineers, review decisions, and spot risks. You don't need to be across every layer of the stack you need to be honest about what you know and curious about what you don't.

Product mindset. You think about engineering in the context of business outcomes, not just technical correctness. You can push back on scope, advocate for quality, and translate between engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

Comfort with ambiguity. Capital on Tap is growing. Priorities shift. We want someone who creates clarity for their team rather than waiting for it.

Required:

• 3+ in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML — and ideally additional experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
• Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed code (.NET) and native code.
• Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications, with an emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation or similar), and a dedication to building accessible and inclusive software.
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading or asynchronous programming (where relevant).
• Experience leading technical design, mentoring other engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
• Strong communication skills; ability to articulate tradeoffs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive consensus.

• Experience with writing automated tests for UI — unit tests, integration tests, UI automation tests; familiarity with relevant testing frameworks.
• Experience with performance optimization for desktop apps (memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, responsiveness under load).
• Experience with localization/globalization, right-to-left UI support, internationalization, accessibility for multiple regions.
• Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications.
• Previous experience in shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop applications.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of feature areas or modules and drive them long-term, including maintenance, refactoring, and technical debt management.

About the Role 

We are looking for a Senior .NET Developer who combines deep technical expertise with a passion for code quality, mentorship, and collaborative delivery. In this role you will lead efforts to modernize and evolve our platform, drive engineering best practices, and work alongside product, design, and data teams to ship reliable software at scale.

Core Responsibilities 

Technical Leadership & Code Modernization 

• Lead architectural decisions for migrating a legacy single tenant .NET 8 application into an existing multitenant framework. 
• Champion clean code principles and drive technical roadmaps that reduce technical debt while maintaining delivery velocity. 
• Evaluate and introduce tooling, libraries, and frameworks that improve developer experience and system reliability. 
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pairing, design reviews, and structured knowledge-sharing sessions. 

Code Review & Quality Assurance 

• Conduct constructive code reviews that uphold team standards and serve as teaching opportunities. 
• Define and enforce coding standards, naming conventions, and architectural guidelines across the team. 
• Identify systemic quality issues through review patterns and proactively propose process improvements. 
• Act as a trusted technical reviewer for high-risk or cross-cutting changes before they reach production. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

• Partner closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into accurate technical estimates and clear implementation plans. 
• Collaborate with data engineers on warehouse integrations and backend data pipelines, ensuring scalable and maintainable interfaces. 
• Work with DevOps and platform teams to define deployment patterns and promote infrastructure-as-code practices.

Quality Engineering & Testing with TDD

• Champion a shift-left testing culture by embedding quality practices into every stage of development, not just QA cycles. 
• Ensure test coverage benchmarks are defined, tracked, and continuously improved. 

Communication & Process Leadership 

• Lead sprint ceremonies including planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming with clarity and accountability. 
• Produce high-quality technical documentation including runbooks, API contracts, and onboarding guides. 
• Surface blockers and dependencies early, communicating status and risk proactively to stakeholders. 
• Contribute to a culture of psychological safety where candid, constructive feedback is the norm. 

Required Qualifications 

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on .NET. 
• .NET proficiency, including ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core, and the modern .NET runtime ecosystem. 
• Demonstrated experience modernizing legacy web applications — refactoring, re-architecting, or re-platforming from older monolithic web applications to modern platform fabrics. 
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, including pipeline design, automated test gating, artifact management, and deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, rolling). 
• Clear understanding of single-tenancy vs. multi-tenancy architecture patterns and the trade-offs in security, isolation, scalability, and cost. 
• Experience with test-driven development and a strong testing philosophy covering unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to write clear technical documentation and lead design discussions. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Claude code, Copilot, or the leverage of any AI platform to increase production output is a strong plus. 
• Experience with large-scale data warehousing solutions; Google BigQuery experience is a strong plus. 
• Frontend experience with Vue.js 3 — component architecture, Composition API, and state management patterns.

We're building a small team of ~3 AI-specialist software engineers who embed directly within product teams to deliver intelligent features. Rather than operating as a separate unit, you'll work alongside existing teams as an internal consultant, helping them deliver AI-powered capabilities whilst building their skills through hands-on collaboration and structured training. Part of the role has a hand in upskilling the wider Engineering department through workshops, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
