Project/Job description
In the Department of ComplexSE, we are now offering a postdoctoral position within the Q-VERSE EU project, which aims to provide a ready-to-use quantum software toolkit that supports various APIs and HPC interfaces in an open and transparent manner for Europe’s quantum developers and industry stakeholders. Q-VERSE will develop dedicated GAIA-X-compliant quantum interfaces and will build its foundation on the first fully European-developed, open-source quantum software development kit, Eclipse Qrisp.
The postdoctoral fellow will carry out research on software infrastructure and enabling components for hybrid quantum–classical computing. The work will concentrate on creating frameworks and middleware that facilitate the integration of quantum computing with traditional HPC and cloud environments. Main activities include designing quantum–classical workflow frameworks, developing testing and benchmarking platforms for quantum applications and platforms, and building integration middleware to support European HPC and cloud infrastructures.
The postdoctoral researcher will coordinate the work package led by Simula, monitor task progress, and lead the preparation of project deliverables for which Simula is responsible, while also contributing to deliverables led by other project partners in which Simula is a contributor. The position involves close collaboration with international academic and industrial partners and contributions to the development of open-source tools and experimental platforms for real-world quantum computing applications.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for interested candidates who have:
- PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong programming and system development skills and experience with quantum computing software architectures or middleware.

Project/Job description
In the Department of ComplexSE, we are currently looking for a PhD candidate at the Norwegian Quantum Software Center, a national research initiative dedicated to advancing quantum software research. The center concentrates on foundational research in software abstractions, automated quantum software development, circuit optimization, noise reduction, execution on near-term quantum hardware, and quantum artificial intelligence. NorQSoft partners with leading academic and industry nationally and internationally.
This PhD project will focus on one of the following two topics:
Developing AI-based methods and tools for automated quantum software development. The research will investigate how techniques such as large language models and search-based methods can assist quantum programmers by helping with circuit generation, error detection, optimization, and providing meaningful explanations of quantum code.
Research automated quantum testing and debugging methods for quantum software, tackling challenges like the test oracle problem, creating effective test cases, and fault localization in quantum circuits. AI-powered techniques will be examined for detecting possible bugs, estimating quantum states during execution, and automatically generating and ranking candidate patches.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for interested candidates who have:
- Strong programming skills.
- Solid background in software engineering, such as software development, testing, or debugging.
- Strong background in AI-based software engineering (e.g., LLMs).
- Some experience with quantum computing platforms, such as IBM’s Qiskit
- Motivation to work on emerging technologies, particularly quantum computing.
