THE JOB

As an Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician, you’re part of a team that thrives on the front lines of emergency veterinary care where every second counts. You’ll handle a wide range of cases, from minor to complex emergencies, collaborating with our doctors and team in delivering gold standard, emotionally intelligent care. You’ll jump into triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical care nursing, all while being a steady, compassionate presence for pet parents in their most stressful moments. WHAT YOU’LL DO

WHAT YOU NEED

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited program strongly preferred
• Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the state the VEG practice is located is required; VTS in ECC, internal medicine or anesthesia/analgesia is a plus and will lead to extra considerations in compensation
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician role; experience in emergency or specialty medicine preferred
• Basic computer skills and a comprehension of practice management software and electronic medical record keeping

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO

• Treat each patient and customer with the highest level of compassion and care.
• Perform basic to intermediate nursing care tasks, patient monitoring, and treatments.
• Use understanding of common diseases and conditions, physical assessment, and monitoring parameters to accurately triage incoming patients.
• Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications and understand potential adverse effects of medications.
• Set-up, monitor, and administer intravenous fluid therapy including constant rate infusions and blood transfusion therapy.
• Contribute as a team member to incoming outpatient care and ongoing inpatient care.
• Participate in giving and receiving patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
• Be trained to properly perform all aspects of CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer.
• Collect samples and perform diagnostic tests including in-house and point-of-care tests and diagnostic imaging.
• Assist in setting-up, performing, monitoring sedation and surgical anesthesia with LVT or DVM supervision.
• Perform nursing care tasks such as placing and maintaining urinary catheters and nasal oxygen tubes, and
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot oxygen cages and other oxygen administration techniques.
• Work alongside licensed veterinary technicians as a vital member of the nursing care team.
• Obtain additional training along guided growth pathways offering roles in addition to direct nursing care such as veterinary technician credentialing, trainer role, community outreach, and leadership.

Veterinary Assistants can additionally (where permitted by law):

• Administer, monitor, and maintain patients under general anesthesia with or without mechanical ventilation for patients with varied levels of risk.
• Perform advanced vascular access techniques including jugular catheter placement, sampling line placement, central line placement, intraosseous catheterization, and arterial catheterization.
• Perform advanced diagnostic techniques including ultrasonography and paracentesis,
• Participate in formulating treatment, anesthetic, and nursing care plans.
• Obtain additional training along guided growth pathways offering roles in addition to direct nursing care such as a trainer role, coordination of care, community outreach, and leadership.

THE JOB

As a per diem Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician, you’re part of a team that thrives on the front lines of emergency veterinary care where every second counts. You’ll handle a wide range of cases, from minor to complex emergencies, collaborating with our doctors and team in delivering gold standard, emotionally intelligent care. You’ll jump into triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical care nursing, all while being a steady, compassionate presence for pet parents in their most stressful moments. THE JOB

As a Sonographer, your focus is on ultrasound support for VEG hospitals and training facilities. This means working closely with our emergency doctors to provide same-day ultrasound scans for pets when they need it most. You’ll deal with a variety of patient types and scans, so being comfortable adapting to new scenarios and willing to learn new techniques and think outside the box are all part of your day-to-day. You’ll also assist in coordinating education opportunities and overall ultrasound training for your home and regional hospitals, inspire and motivate your fellow VEGgies to grow their ultrasound skills, and be ready to pitch in at the hospital whenever and wherever needed.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at your home hospital and regional hospitals
• Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists reading your studies (e.g., Antech, SonoPath, IDEXX, VetsChoice, etc.)
• Ensure all training content and activities are in alignment with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques
• Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist
• Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation practices to modify and enhance VEG’s ultrasound training programs
• Regularly meet with the medical directors, nursing trainer, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and additional needs
• Regularly meet with the hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and team concerns
• Coordinate weekly schedule to work on the floor shifts with the hospital manager and medical director and devote time to training responsibilities
• May assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material, such as PowerPoints, videos, simulations, and assessments to be implemented across the doctor and nursing team training programs
• May provide educational demonstrations for doctors and nurses at other VEGs, including ultrasound topics, such as abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, and musculoskeletal studies 

WHAT YOU NEED

• Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), and/or equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates)
• 3+ years veterinary ultrasound experience
• Previous training experience and the patience to teach and develop doctors, nurses, and fellow sonographers
• Comfortable mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues
• Adaptability to changing environments
• Excellent communicator with peers, customers, and VEGgies
• Embrace the VEG Way and be excited to share your perspective and experience
• Eagerness to grow as a sonographer through training and continuing education
• Desire to travel to regional hospitals and off-site training facilities (e.g., Fort Collins, CO; Las Vegas, NV; White Plains, NY, etc.)
