Join Anduril AIRS (American Infrared Solutions), a leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance cooled infrared cameras and components.
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design and development of advanced complex electro-mechanical systems, structural components, and electronic packaging. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own hardware from concept generation to real-world use.
- Utilize first principles physics as a basis for all decisions.
- Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful projects into production.
- Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed.
- Contribute to the development of new optical systems by assisting in design and implementation efforts.
- Design and document fixturing for prototyping and production efforts.
- Create and maintain manufacturing and process documentation to support efficient workflow.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in mechanical design, hardware development, or integrated product development and testing, ideally with complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo) and a willingness to quickly adapt to new tools.
- Demonstrated ability to create high-quality engineering drawings that meet industry standards, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with thermal and structural analysis (e.g., FEA) for robust design validation.
- Ability to integrate electronic components into mechanical designs (motors, controllers, sensors, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities

- Develop and Optimize IDCA Manufacturing Processes: Lead the full lifecycle of manufacturing process design, documentation, and continuous improvement for IDCAs, ensuring high quality and efficiency.
- Drive Production Capacity Growth: Strategize and implement initiatives to achieve a significant increase in production capacity.
- Innovate with Automation & Control Systems: Design and deploy new equipment, automation solutions, data collection, and process control systems to enhance quality, reduce cycle time, and expand test coverage.
- Ensure Operational Excellence & Uptime: Develop and manage comprehensive Preventive Maintenance (PM) and equipment spares procedures to maximize equipment uptime and overall operational efficiency.
- Lead New Equipment Integration: Oversee the specification, sourcing, installation, and qualification of new process equipment.
- Support New Product & Program Launches: Provide critical design feedback for new IDCA products and lead the qualification of new designs and processes for program introductions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in a technical field such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, math, or a hard science.
- 5+ years of Operations experience in these areas: Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or in design of electromechanical hardware.
- Professional experience in high vacuum systems and or the cooled thermal imaging industry, specifically with Dewars and Coolers.
- Proven track record of yield and process improvement, ideally supported by a Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent.
- Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities

ABOUT THE TEAM
The Anduril Imaging team develops state-of-the-art imaging systems, deployed to tackle the most significant security challenges of America and its allies. The team is looking for a Firmware Engineer to lead the architecture, standardization, and development of new capabilities all the way from conceptualization to production. We are interested in candidates that are excited to build Anduril's next generation of imaging products from the ground up.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Imaging team is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to design a new product lines. In this role, you will work closely with an interdisciplinary technical team to define, complete the design and analysis, build prototypes leading to ground and flight testing, and mature the prototypes into products.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead FPGA architecture, standards, development and review processes
- FPGA Development: Designing, architecting, simulating, and integrating VHDL designs into FPGAs or Systems on Chip (SoC) for optimized performance, resource utilization, and power efficiency.
- Hardware/Software Integration: Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (electrical engineers, software engineers, systems engineers) to ensure seamless integration of the firmware with the overall system, including processor bring-up and board support packages.
- Testing and Validation: Developing robust test benches in VHDL/Verilog and utilizing lab tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers for rigorous testing and validation of designs against functional specifications and performance requirements.
- Optimization: Optimizing the algorithms for hardware acceleration, including MIPS optimization and efficient use of on-chip bus protocols like AXI or AXI-Stream.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: A Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience developing HDL firmware for FPGA devices
- Hardware Description Languages: Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog is essential for RTL (Register Transfer Level) design.
- FPGA Tools: Experience with industry-standard FPGA design tools such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
- Debugging Skills: Strong hardware/software debugging skills using standard lab equipment.
- Version Control: Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) for collaborative development.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated experience designing with multi-gigabit SERDES, DDR memory busses, Ethernet MAC and PHY interfaces, FPGAs, and common communication busses like SPI and I2C
- Embedded software development experience with the use of timers, interrupts, hardware peripherals such as SPI controllers and ADCs
- Knowledge of embedded Linux development, including device trees, hardware drivers, bootloaders, and basic Unix/Linux tools
- Familiar with common programming languages like Python and MATLAB
- Familiarity with infrared image sensor technology
