The Role
Xos is seeking a Vehicle Controls Software Engineer to help design, develop, and validate control software for our next generation electric vehicle platforms.This role involves defining software requirements, implementing and testing control algorithms, and preparing technical documentation with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and reliability. The position collaborates closely with cross-functional engineering teams to gather subsystem requirements and translate them into robust, production-ready control strategies. The Vehicle Controls Software Engineer plays an integral role in both the design and testing phase of development and regularly travels to Xos manufacturing facilities and customer sites to support vehicle commissioning, system testing, and on-site troubleshooting.
**This is an on-site based role at our Los Angeles, CA HQ**
What You'll Do
- Define, interpret, and refine vehicle control system requirements, ensuring alignment with performance, safety, and compliance goals.
- Design, implement, and integrate embedded control algorithms for electric powertrain and vehicle systems using model-based development tools (MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow).
- Develop and execute system-level tests on HIL benches, simulators, and actual vehicles to validate control logic, and software performance.
- Support vehicle commissioning, end-of-line testing, and troubleshooting activities at Xos manufacturing facilities and customer locations, including diagnostics and root cause analysis.
- Create comprehensive documentation for control software design, implementation, and testing to meet internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Review and assess the impact of software changes, participating in design and requirement reviews to ensure system-level consistency and reliability.
- Support change control, version control, and requirements traceability in accordance with internal processes.
- Provide technical feedback to support improvement tools, procedures, and software development standards.
- Additional duties and special projects as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience developing and validating vehicle-level control systems.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow for real-time embedded control design.
- Familiarity with C/C++ programming and automotive communication protocols (CAN,LIN, J1939)
- Hands-on experience with HIL systems, diagnostic tools (ETAS INCA, Vector CANalyzer), and vehicle testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
- Experience in fast-paced environments, with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
- A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for this position, as driving is an essential function of the role.
- Ability to travel as required to support vehicle commissioning and field activities; position requires up to 60% travel
Preferred
- Experience in electric vehicle systems and architecture.
- Familiarity with ISO 26262 functional safety standards
The salary range for this role is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Xos Inc. reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skillset, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, geographic location, and other business or organizational factors. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.

The Role
Xos is seeking a Senior Vehicle Controls Software Engineer to lead the development, integration, and validation of control systems across our electric vehicle platforms. In this role, you'll design and implement embedded control software that powers core vehicle systems including propulsion, energy management, thermal control, and safety.
Success in this role requires strong expertise in embedded software and EV systems, couple with the ability to tackle complex engineering challenges with precision and creativity. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready software that meets rigorous automotive standards and drive performance across our growing vehicle lineup.
**This is an on-site based role at our Los Angeles, CA HQ**
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and integration of vehicle control software across multiple electric vehicle platforms.
- Define and maintain system and software architecture for propulsion, regenerative braking, energy management, and thermal control systems.
- Oversee the validation and verification of control software, ensuring functionality, performance, and safety compliance.
- Translate system level and stakeholder requirements into detailed technical specifications and software requirements.
- Conduct system-level trade studies, simulations, and analyses to support design decisions and mitigate technical risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, including electrical, mechanical, and test, to ensure seamless system integration and traceability.
- Support root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues using structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 8D, DMAIC).
- Participate in supplier assessment and integration of critical components and subsystems affecting vehicle control performance.
- Ensure adherence to functional safety processes (ISO 26262) and contribute to the development of safety-related work products.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of software development, verification, and validation practices within the vehicle systems engineering function.
- Additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in embedded software development, with at least 3 years in vehicle control systems for electric or hybrid vehicles
- Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow, and experience with software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of EV systems, including propulsion, motor/inverter control, battery management systems (BMS), and vehicle-level energy management.
- Experience with functional safety standards (ISO 26262) and automotive development lifecycles.
- Familiarity with software requirements management tools such as JIRA, Jama, Polarion, and version control systems
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
- Experience with model-based design workflows and code generation ( e.g. Embedded Coder)
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet
- Ability to travel domestically up to 20% as required to support testing, validation, and launch activities.

$20.00/hr paid weekly
Tuesday-Saturday 5am-1:30pm
Must have experience driving a 16' box truck or similar vehicle and have held a driver’s license for at least 4 years with no major violations in the past 7 years.
What your shift will look like:
- Deliver dairy and cafe supplies to coffee houses and restaurants throughout Chino CA
- Drive a 16' refrigerated box truck while following all safety protocols and local driving laws
- Enter and exit the vehicle from the driver’s door/cargo bay doors to pull the customer’s order and stack it on the dolly, ensuring no product is damaged in the process
- Communicate with customers to determine placement of merchandise while following safety and lifting protocols during deliveries
- Use a hand truck to move cases and loose items across various building obstacles such as stairs, ramps, and sidewalks
- Correctly identify any order issues and resolve them in real-time
- Utilize a handheld device for routing and obtaining or submitting customer information
- Using an RF scanner, identify and pull items to build customer orders
- Frequently move boxes weighing up to 60 pounds throughout the fulfillment center and delivery vehicle
- Operate a hand truck, pallet jack, or electric pallet jack to move inventory across the fulfillment center and delivery vehicle
- Assist with the loading and unloading of merchandise and non-inventory in and out of delivery vehicles, trucks, and vans
- Perform all tasks as assigned
- Need to write, read, speak/understand English

The Role
Xos is hiring an experienced Field Service Technician responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and reporting on Xos vehicles. Operating primarily in the field, this role requires a high level of productivity and self-reliance while traveling. The Field Service Technician is responsible for taking customers' stated concerns and quantifying those into actionable technical issues. Detailed reporting on the cause, root cause, and corrective actions will drive improved production quality as well as field fix development. Exceptional customer service, knowledge of the complete vehicle, in addition to battery systems, is key to success in this position.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and report on quality and design concerns on Xos vehicles and products.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as design, engineering, software, and external partners.
- Demonstrate proficiency in low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) electrical diagnosis, controls, and module programming.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of basic electrical concepts, including the use of various volt-ohm meters.
- Possess strong mechanical knowledge of commercial truck mechanical systems with experience in motors and harness systems preferred.
- Provide professional customer facing support face-to-face interactions and through phone and email communications.
- Complete timely and accurate case notes, repair orders, and initiate new cases as required.
- Demonstrate professional appearance and effective communication skills with customers on-site and in remote interactions.
- Complete training objectives and certifications as assigned by management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proven proficiency with high and low voltage electrical systems.
- Associates Degree or Vocational Certificate in automotive service technology related field or 4+ years of relevant experience.
- ASE Certifications are a plus
- CDL class A or B preferred
- Proficiency in Google Suite applications
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for this position, as driving is an essential function of the role.
- Ability to meet security clearance requirements for employment and comply with all applicable pre-employment conditions, including those required by federal or customer-regulated work environments.
- Must be available to travel as business needs require (typically 60-80% of the time including overnight stays) , including weekends, holidays, and outside standard business hours.
