Principal Thermal Protection System Engineer 

Location: Playa Vista, California (in-person, five days per week)

The Role 

The Principal Thermal Protection System Engineer (TPS) will lead the design, analysis, and implementation of the (TPS) for our Carryall reentry vehicle. This role sits at the intersection of high-temperature materials science, aerothermal analysis, and mechanical design. You will own the primary barrier that allows our vehicles to survive the extreme environments of reentry, turning the "impossible" physics of returning from orbit into a repeatable, reusable operation. 

You will work closely with engineering leadership and the mechanical engineering team, to architect a TPS that is robust enough to handle hypersonic heat fluxes and flexible enough to stow and deploy on orbit. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who is ready to take ownership of a flight-critical subsystem from design through to flight qualification. 

Responsibilities 

• Lead TPS Architecture: Define the TPS architecture and thermal protection strategy for the Carryall vehicle, selecting materials and material stack-ups that balance thermal performance, mass, and mechanical flexibility.
• Aerothermal Analysis: Perform and guide high-fidelity aeroheating analysis (CFD) and thermal response modeling to validate specifications and predict performance under reentry loads.
• Material Qualification: Lead the testing and characterization of flexible and rigid TPS materials, including arc-jet testing, radiant heat testing, and mechanical load testing.
• Design for Manufacturability: Oversee the transition from theoretical design to flight hardware, managing vendor relationships for TPS materials including fabrics, thermal barriers, and adhesives.
• Validation & Verification: Develop and support the verification plan for the TPS subsystem, ensuring all requirements are met prior to flight.
• Technical Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical roadmap for future scaled up re-entry vehicle generations 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering (or related field).
• 10+ years of experience in the development of thermal protection systems, hypersonic aerodynamics, or high-temperature structural materials.
• Deep understanding of heat transfer mechanisms (convection, radiation, conduction) specifically during atmospheric entry.
• Simulation expertise: Proficiency with thermal and ablation modeling tools (e.g., FIAT, CMA, Thermal Desktop, or custom solvers) and analysis software (ANSYS, MATLAB/Python).
• Hands-on experience with hardware testing, specifically environmental or arc-jet testing of TPS materials.
• Proven ability to manage complex trade studies involving mass, volume, and thermal performance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex thermal risks to the broader engineering team.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where requirements may evolve and urgency is key. 

Preferred Experience 

• Active U.S. Government Security Clearance (Not required, but beneficial)
• Experience with Deployable Aerodynamic Decelerators (HIAD/ADEPT) or flexible thermal protection systems for reentry at extreme thermal heat. 
• Direct experience with hypersonic vehicle flight hardware from concept to post-flight analysis.
• Familiarity with government or commercial spaceflight standards (NASA/DoD) for thermal protection.
• Experience in a "Design, Build, Fly" environment with rapid iteration cycles.

About This Role

As a Civil Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in executing a state-of-the-art enrichment facility from concept through commissioning. This role will ensure that our enrichment facilities meet safety, efficiency and environmental standards. 

You will have the opportunity to work on a greenfield project collaborating with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, architects, and both internal and external partners to develop detailed structural designs and specifications. You will wear multiple hats and supporting your design work through vendor activity and constructions administration. Responsibilities

• Preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and design plans for projects using engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and equipment.
• Use site visits, reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of our facilities
• Implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities.
• Take full ownership of civil permitting processes, working directly with regulatory agencies, municipalities, and environmental consultants
• Ensure project compliance with federal, state, and local zoning, land use, and environmental regulations
• Conduct civil engineering risk assessments, ensuring mitigation measures are in place for hydrology, land grading, and flood zone constraints
• Collaborate with EPC project managers, construction teams, and subcontractors to refine site development strategies

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or similar discipline. 
• 8+ years of industry experience. 
•  EPC project experience.
• Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
• Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

• Prepare and review code-compliant designs up to permit level, create comprehensive drawing sets (Revit/AutoCAD), and produce calculations, specifications, and technical reports for design validation.
• Review and approve work by junior engineers, BIM specialists, and contractors; serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) as needed, ensuring adherence to internal and regulatory quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance during construction and commissioning, including responding to RFIs, city plan checks, submittals, and on-site inspections to resolve design issues.
• Contribute to project concept development, feasibility studies, and scope definition, delivering structural solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule goals.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or similar discipline. 
• 8+ years of industry experience. 
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
• Structural Engineer (SE) license is required.
• Experience working with reinforced concrete, steel structures, and seismic analysis.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

The Team

As Senior Software Engineer, you will be working with all aspects of the Outpost software stack, from application layer flight code, GNC integration, embedded systems, all the way to Ground Software. You'll collaborate closely with avionics hardware engineers, GNC specialists, and other team members to create efficient and sustainable solutions. This position offers the chance to engage in all aspects of spacecraft development, from system architecture and rapid prototyping to full flight/Earth-Return projects, managing flight hardware during ground tests, and providing mission operations support. 

Responsibilities

• Design and develop all flight, ground, & operations software for Outpost missions.
• Work cross functionally with all other disciplines (GNC, Power, Propulsion, and Thermal) to support algorithm implementation and integration into the software.
• Write quality bare metal, RTOS, or Linux based software for embedded processors in C/C++.
• Develop driver-level code to interface with sensors and actuators onboard the vehicle.
• Own the complete lifecycle of software development, from design, testing, to integration.
• Conduct bring-up activities in SITL and HITL environments to test avionics & software integration.

Qualifications 

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or another related field.
• Experience writing flight software that has flown in space.
• Minimum of 6 years of spacecraft software engineering or software development experience in C++ or a similar language.
• Work on-site in Playa Vista, CA.

Preferred Experience   

• Experience with FAA Part 450 commercial space launch and reentry licensing requirements.
• Experience writing safety-critical software, especially for aerospace applications.
• Strong understanding of computer architecture and operating systems.
• Experience integrating GNC algorithms into FSW.
• Extensive spacecraft software development experience across a range of languages (e.g. C++/Python).
• Hands-on experience with serial protocols such as UART, CAN, I2C, SPI, and/or Ethernet(TCP/UDP).

• Familiarity with Docker, Git, CMake, and GNU tools.

The Team

The Avionics team is responsible for the design, testing, and production of electronic systems for Outpost’s Earth return vehicles and ground support equipment. You'll collaborate closely with engineers across multiple domains to create efficient and sustainable solutions. This position offers the chance to engage in all aspects of spacecraft development and own avionics subsystems from end to end, from architecture and requirements definition through design, test, integration, and providing support during flight and re-entry.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical architectures, design circuits, capture schematics, and lay out PCBAs.
• Design custom electrical harnesses and oversee harness builds.
• Make build vs. buy decisions to best satisfy design, schedule, and budget requirements.
• Develop and support electrical ground equipment and test hardware, including HITL and FlatSat setups.
• Drive root-cause analysis and troubleshooting of electronics-related issues in spacecraft and ground systems.
• Interface directly with external vendors to ensure that hardware is delivered on time and with expected quality.
• Contribute to defining avionics team best practices such as documentation, design reviews, and hardware-related development processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience designing and building electrical hardware for high-reliability applications such as aerospace, defense, or automotive.

The Role 

Outpost's vehicles are unlike anything in the market, reusable, fabric-shielded, paraglider-guided Earth-return spacecraft. We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer who will own the design and delivery of flight and ground hardware for our Atmospheric Entry (ATMO) subsystem, the hardware that keeps customer payloads safe from launch through landing. 

This role spans the full engineering lifecycle, design, analysis, drawing release, build support, and test. You'll work alongside an integrated team and have meaningful ownership of your hardware from day one. 

What You’ll Do 

• Design and develop mechanical systems for atmospheric recovery, including deployable structures, aerodynamic decelerators, recovery mechanisms, airframe interfaces, and precision landing hardware from requirements through release, build support, and qualification.
• Develop CDR-level design packages: CAD, drawings, specifications, analysis, and test plans.
• Define and manage hardware requirements, interface with mission operations and payload customers.
• Perform or coordinate structural and thermal analysis to verify hardware margins.
• Write and execute qualification and acceptance test procedures, support environmental test campaigns.
• Participate in peer reviews and formal milestone reviews (CDR, TRR, etc.).
• Drive design reviews (PDR/CDR) and prepare clear documentation, drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
• Perform other duties as required.

 Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
• 5-10 years designing flight hardware structures and mechanisms.
• Experience taking hardware from concept to production and/or flight.
• Strong proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, NX, or similar) and mechanical analysis tools (structural/thermal in Ansys - Solidworks).
• Experience designing structures, mechanisms, deployables, or aerodynamic structures (parachutes/paragliders, flaps, linkages, hinges, etc.).
• Understanding of load path, interfaces, and environmental requirements for high-energy flight environments.
• Experience executing rapid, hands-on prototypes to support fast design–build–test cycles.

• Experience taking hardware through at least one formal design review (PDR or CDR); exposure to qualification testing strongly preferred. 
• Experience with reentry systems, atmospheric flight vehicles, TPS interfaces, or parachute/paraglider systems.
• Background integrating soft goods with rigid structures.
• Experience in hypersonic, supersonic, or high-aero-load environments.

The Role 

Outpost's vehicles are unlike anything in the market - reusable, fabric-shielded, paraglider-guided Earth-return spacecraft. We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Structures and Mechanism team who will design and build the test and qualification process for spacecraft components and vehicles - from concept through execution and data analysis. This is a deep mechanical role with elements of instrumentation and data acquisition, and strong ownership over how our hardware earns its right to fly. 

This role spans the full engineering lifecycle - design, analysis, drawing release, build support, and test. You'll work alongside an integrated team and have meaningful ownership of your hardware from day one.   

What You’ll Do  

• Design, model, and fabricate mechanical components and test fixtures for spacecraft assemblies, including heat shield, payload containment, parachute and paraglider systems, and primary and secondary structure.
• Select materials, fasteners, and mechanical interfaces that satisfy flight boundary conditions.
• Produce engineering drawings and documentation for in-house build or vendor fabrication.
• Iterate designs rapidly based on test outcomes and anomalies, build, test, learn, improve.
• Set up and execute test, including apply instrumentation (load cells, strain gauges, displacement sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers), and verifying boundary conditions prior to every test run.
• Troubleshoot mechanical test anomalies hands-on: trace failures to root cause, propose corrective actions, and retest to closure Participate in peer reviews and formal milestone reviews (CDR, TRR, etc.).

 Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 2-5+ years of hands-on experience designing flight hardware structures and mechanisms.
• Experience in hardware test development.
• Familiarity with spacecraft or launch vehicle components, or other space/aviation hardware where qualification and reliability are critical.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (Siemens NX, CATIA, SolidWorks or similar) and GD&T.
• Experience taking hardware from design to build to test in an aerospace or space environment.

• Strong documentation habits and familiarity with following structured standards and guidelines.

The Role 

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer who will own the mechanical test and qualification process for spacecraft components and vehicles from concept through execution and data analysis. You will design and build test fixtures and portable test racks, define test plans (qualification, acceptance, drop, load, vibration, deployment, etc.), execute tests, and analyze results to inform design and certification decisions. Responsibilities

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will serve as the technical authority for the primary and secondary structures of Outpost’s Carryall. This is a role for a veteran structural engineer who has expertise on full-scale flight vehicles whether launch vehicles, satellites, or re-entry capsules. Unlike traditional space vehicle roles where the structure simply needs to survive launch, you are designing for the round trip: launch vibration, the harsh vacuum of orbit, and the extreme thermal and mechanical loads of hypersonic re-entry and landing. You will own the structural architecture of the vehicle, moving rapidly from trade studies to detailed analysis, and finally to hands-on integration. We need someone with the deep intuition that comes from 15+ years of seeing hardware fly (and fail). 

Responsibilities 

• Structural Architect: Lead the mechanical design of the entire vehicle structure, including primary structure, interfaces to the deployable heatshield, secondary structures, and payload bay
• High-Fidelity Analysis: Perform and sign off on detailed hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS/FEMAP/NASTRAN). You will be the final check on stiffness, buckling, and thermal expansion compatibility.
• Drawing & GD&T: Create and approve high-quality manufacturing drawings with appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) to ensure parts fit the first time.
• Build & Test Leadership: "Get your hands dirty" leading the assembly of your designs. Own the structural test campaign (static load, random vibration, shock, and deployment testing) to qualify hardware for flight.
• Vendor & Partner Management: Work directly with machine shops, composite vendors, and external partners to resolve fabrication conflicts and ensure on-time delivery of precision parts.

You will lead the design, development, and testing of high-performance paraglider & parachute systems. You will work at the intersection of soft-goods engineering, aerodynamics, and GNC, ensuring that our recovery system can deploy reliably at altitude and navigate to a precise landing zone. 

Responsibilities 

• Recovery System Architect: Lead the design and development of the parachute & paraglider recovery system, including canopy sizing, reefing strategies, and riser geometry.
• Textile & Manufacturing: Develop fabrication processes for complex soft goods. You will own material selection (ripstop nylon, Kevlar, Dyneema), patterning, and integration of hardware (steering lines, toggles, releases).
• Deployment Sequence: Design the deployment sequence for transitioning from the heatshield configuration, to drogue parachute flight, and on to stable paraglider flight, ensuring no entanglement during the critical handover.
• Flight Test Lead: Plan and execute flight tests (dropped from crane, aircraft, and balloon platforms) to validate opening characteristics and flight performance.

• Establish and enforce analysis standards across the team, hand calculations, FEA (ANSYS/FEMAP/NASTRAN), stiffness, buckling, fatigue, and thermal expansion compatibility. Be the final technical check on margin policy and verification logic.
• Own the release process and quality bar for mechanical manufacturing drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) across the department.
• Coordinate with the production team on structural qualification campaign end-to-end, static load, random vibration, shock, deployment, and environmental testing, to certify hardware for flight.
• Coordinate with the production team to stablish strategic relationships with machine shops, composite vendors, and external partners. Support make-vs-buy decisions and ensure supply chain resilience for precision flight hardware.
• Brief the CEO, board, customers, and government partners on structural design, risk posture, and program status. 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in the design and analysis of complex aerospace structures and mechanisms, with at least 3+ years in a management or technical leadership role leading multi-disciplined engineering teams.
• Proven track record leading structures on full space vehicles or rockets (not just subsystems).
• Demonstrated experience hiring, scaling, and mentoring engineering teams of 5+ engineers; comfortable setting OKRs, running performance reviews, and managing costs.
• Expert-level fluency in Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar parametric modeling software, with the ability to drive standards across the team.
• Deep background in structural analysis (FEA) and classical hand calculations. You must trust your hand calcs before you trust the solver.
• Extensive understanding of aerospace materials (aluminum, titanium, inconel, composites) and their behavior in extreme thermal environments.
• Deep command of CNC machining, sheet metal, and welding with a design-for-manufacturing mindset you can instill across the org.

Preferred Experience 

• Active U.S. Government Security Clearance (not required, but beneficial).
• Experience with deployable space structures and mechanisms (booms, solar arrays, antennas, or aerobrakes).
• Experience in taking primary structure from concept through PDR/CDR to flight.
• Experience designing for high-heat environments or integrating with Thermal Protection Systems (TPS).
• Deep knowledge of aerospace standards (NASA-STD-5000 series, SMC-S-016) for structural margins and testing.
• Prior experience as a Director, Chief Engineer, or department head at a launch, reentry, satellite, or hypersonics company.

Position Description Summary
The Electrical/IT Construction Inspector is responsible for performing inspections of electrical and low-voltage systems within public works rights-of-way, buildings, tenant improvement projects, and civil/electrical construction. Essential Job Duties
• Conducts inspections in public works right of ways, buildings, tenant improvement renovations & civil electrical work, shall possess experience & have knowledge of the materials and understanding methods used in the installation of electrical components & local code requirements.
• Shall possess knowledge in low voltage IT systems including interpretation of code requirements.
• Experience desired in inspection of electrical rough and finishes not limited to, underground utilities, high voltage gear & electrical panels, 400 HZ conduit racks, conductors, grounding systems, breakers, interior & exterior lighting, fire life & safety systems, smoke & heat sensors, FM-200 installations, lock out tag out requirements, electrical panel shutdowns, IT door card readers and components, security cameras, communication P.A. systems, etc.

Hardware/Software Knowledge
• Basic computer skills and knowledge with Word, excel spreadsheets and the ability to utilize email and functions.

Professional Experience Level/Other Qualifications
• Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have at least 3 years or more of experience performing electrical/IT inspections; For tasks on the Airfield, 3 years or more of experience with airfield lighting is required.
• Electrical/IT inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing electrical/IT inspections for Building Construction.                                                                                                                                                • Candidate must possess the ability to work well with others in large programs, is kind, well mannered & respectful all times with colleagues, stakeholders, construction community & the non-construction personnel.

• Advance multimodal human representations & understanding : Research and implement novel models and other multimodal techniques for a more holistic understanding of humans across visual, audio, and textual data.
