What’s Exciting About the Role
Verifone is seeking a Kafka DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This is an operations-first role with a strong emphasis on scripting, automation, and pipeline development. You’ll be hands-on with day-to-day Kafka operations, reliability, tuning, and high availability for payment gateway solutions that process billions of transactions annually on-prem and in AWS Cloud. Beyond keeping the lights on, you’ll play a key role in building the data pipelines—of which Kafka is a core component—that power Verifone’s new AI, machine learning, and analytics initiatives. You’ll also be part of an active effort to migrate Kafka and related services to Kubernetes, giving you hands-on experience with a meaningful infrastructure modernization project. As part of the Data Infrastructure team you will be supporting mission critical big data platforms, to ensure they are fully performant, reliable, available and secure. We call it data infrastructure engineering, also known as DataOps or Database Administration or SRE.
The role is a mixture of development of tooling and operational support for our platforms, two aspects that go hand-in-hand. It requires attention to detail and curiousity about how the systems work under the hood, and gives you a wide base of skills from low level system tuning to general coding.
We manage four main storage platforms, namely:
These platforms are all open source, written in Java, Scala or C, and we maintain in-house builds and patching of them. We use a variety of open-source and in-house developed tooling to manage these services, mostly written in Rust and Python, which run primarily on hundreds of servers in multiple data centres and in the cloud.
We maintain a balance between project work and operational/ad-hoc work for all members in the team, whether they are senior or recent graduates, and your day-to-day work will be a mix of these.
The exact project work will depend on your experience, but we will scope it out collectively to ensure it is both achievable and delivers benefit. Some example projects given to recent graduates are:
If you're joining the team as a graduate engineer we'll be focusing on developing your knowledge of the storage platforms, how to program against them and how to troubleshoot issues. The aim is that you'd be able to help with the staging support by 3-6 months, and join the rest of the team supporting the production systems in 12 months. You'll also be expected to take a full part in the life of the team and, as your experience grows, start designing the infrastructure we run.
This role is based in Brighton, UK, but working remotely will be possible once the initial 6-12 months of training is complete.

This is a 0-to-1 role. You'll work alongside Rick (Founding Engineer), Max (Head of Marketplace), and JD (Product & Ops) to own meaningful product surface areas from day one — not tickets in a backlog, but real decisions that shape how creators earn and how talent gets discovered.
Wonder TV — Stage 2 and beyond
We're live on Circle (Stage 1). Stage 2 is a custom NextJS frontend reading from Circle's backend — a proper VOD experience with discovery, watch pages, and creator profiles. Stage 3 takes us off Circle entirely. You'll be instrumental in both.

We are looking for a Principal Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to take extreme ownership of our critical database infrastructure. Working within our Technical Operations team, you will act as the definitive Subject Matter Expert for our highly available MySQL and PostgreSQL estates, operating with a high degree of autonomy to design, build, and optimise our data tier.
This is a high-impact role where you will predominantly lead the database strategy, bridging the gap between traditional database administration and modern Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). You will architect resilient data systems, automate toil through Infrastructure as Code, manage our event-streaming platforms (Kafka), and empower our wider engineering teams with database best practices. Own the Data Estate: Serve as the primary architect and technical lead for our highly available, distributed MySQL and PostgreSQL environments.
