The Unified Platform - Risk team is looking for an outstanding Senior Software Engineer with diverse technical and interpersonal skills to join us in the next step of our development as we significantly expand our technical capabilities, enabling us to have an even greater impact across the firm.

This team builds and maintains services which:

- calculate portfolio sensitivities and value-at-risk (VaR) across many asset classes
- predict theoretical market outcomes based on user-defined what-if scenarios
- return risk reports for any time horizon

We collaborate closely with risk managers and trading desks to measure option and rate sensitivities and create applications to monitor, manage, and report analytic measures. While previous experience in the trading and finance industry is beneficial, we're looking for talented software engineers with or without industry-specific expertise.

Responsibilities:

- Designing, developing and maintaining greenfield and legacy API, service, and application platforms
- Testing at the unit, functional, and integration level
- Code in multiple languages, paradigms, and platforms
- Collaborating with various business, development, IT, and trading support teams
- Provide on-call support as part of our team-wide rotation
- Keep open communication with our users for support, testing, and ensuring understanding of their needs

Qualifications:

- Experience with financial terminology, VaR methodology, multiple varieties of analytic measures
- Designing software for detail-oriented but non-technical finance users
- Fluent in functional, object-oriented, or imperative programming languages
- Competent in distributed version control, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes

Familiarity with:

- One of the following programming languages: Elixir, Python, Java, C#, C++, Rust
- One of the following data formats: Parquet, Delta Lake, Iceberg
- Pricing, risk management, and portfolio analytics
- Exchange-traded financial assets, statistics, or financial engineering
- Data structures and design/analysis of algorithms
- Where LLM-assisted development accelerates progress, and where it poses risks

Senior Platform Engineer – Platform Operations London (Hybrid) | Engineering | Full Time

The Role

As PhysicsX scales, the operational health, cost efficiency and developer experience of our platform become as important as the underlying infrastructure. Our Platform Operations team is responsible for everything that makes the platform observable, governable and pleasant to work with, from the monitoring stack and alerting pipelines through to the developer portal, CI/CD tooling and cloud cost management.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join Platform Operations. This is a role for someone with a strong DevOps background who cares deeply about operational excellence, developer experience and the sustainable cost of running infrastructure at scale. You will work closely with Platform SRE, Core Infrastructure and product engineering teams to ensure the platform is always observable, efficient and easy to consume.

What You Will Do

• Own and evolve the platform monitoring and observability stack, including Grafana, Loki, Mimir and associated alerting and dashboarding practices.
• Define and maintain SLO dashboards and alerting policies that give platform and product teams clear visibility into system health.
• Lead the adoption and operation of Backstage as the internal developer portal, building and maintaining plugins, service catalogue entries and golden path templates that improve the developer experience across PhysicsX.
• Drive FinOps practices across the platform, including cloud cost attribution, showback and chargeback reporting, and cost anomaly detection across multi cloud environments.
• Implement and maintain IAM and permissions policies across AWS, GCP, Azure and equivalent cloud providers, ensuring least privilege access is enforced consistently.
• Contribute to lightweight security practices including audit logging, vulnerability scanning integration in CI pipelines and policy enforcement using tools such as OPA or Kyverno.
• Collaborate with Core Infrastructure and Runtime teams to surface operational insights and feed operational learnings back into infrastructure and runtime design.
• Drive incident response practices, including runbook creation, post mortem facilitation and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Contribute automation and tooling in Python or Golang to reduce toil and improve platform operability.

What You Bring to the Table

• DevOps and platform operations background – significant experience in a platform operations, DevOps or SRE role, with a track record of improving reliability, observability and developer experience in a fast moving engineering environment.
• Observability stack expertise – deep familiarity with the Grafana ecosystem, including Loki for log aggregation, Mimir or Prometheus for metrics, and Grafana for dashboarding and alerting. Experience designing observability strategies for distributed systems.
• FinOps and cost observability – practical experience implementing cloud cost attribution and reporting across multi cloud or multi tenant environments, including familiarity with tools such as OpenCost, Kubecost or cloud native cost management consoles.
• Kubernetes knowledge – solid operational familiarity with Kubernetes, sufficient to deploy, debug and manage platform components and understand how infrastructure decisions affect operational outcomes.
• Security awareness – lightweight but genuine experience with security tooling, including policy enforcement (OPA, Kyverno or equivalent), audit logging and vulnerability scanning integrated into delivery pipelines.
• Multi cloud familiarity – experience working across more than one cloud provider, with an appreciation for the differences in IAM, networking and cost models.
• Software engineering capability – you are comfortable writing scripts and tooling to automate operational tasks. Python is the primary language expected; Golang familiarity is a bonus. Interviews will include a coding element.
• Communication and collaboration – you can translate operational data and platform health into clear, actionable insight for engineering teams and leadership.

Ideally

• Experience with Terraform or Crossplane for infrastructure provisioning, even if infrastructure ownership sits with a separate team.
• Familiarity with GitOps workflows using Argo CD, Flux or equivalent tooling.
• Experience with on premises or hybrid infrastructure environments.
• Background in ML platform, simulation or HPC operational environments.
• Kubernetes certifications such as CKAD or CKA are a welcome indication of structured Kubernetes knowledge.
• Exposure to functional programming languages such as Erlang, Elixir or OCaml.

Senior Software Engineer – SRE Core Infra London (Hybrid) | Engineering | Full Time

The Role

PhysicsX is growing rapidly and so is the infrastructure that underpins our platform. We are building core infrastructure that is reliable, secure, scalable and reproducible across multiple cloud providers and on premises environments. As the platform evolves to serve increasingly complex engineering workloads, the foundational infrastructure layer becomes ever more critical.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform SRE Core Infrastructure team. This role is responsible for the design, provisioning and operation of the shared infrastructure that the entire PhysicsX platform depends on. You will work across infrastructure as code, Kubernetes cluster management, secrets management, GPU drivers, networking and multi tenancy architecture to ensure the platform is dependable, scalable and secure.

This is a role for an engineer who combines deep infrastructure expertise with a reliability engineering mindset and an appreciation for the developer experience of the teams that consume the platform.

What You Will Do

• Own the design and delivery of core infrastructure across multi cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and on premises environments using Terraform and Crossplane.
• Architect and operate Kubernetes clusters supporting both single tenant and multi tenant workloads, with a strong emphasis on isolation, performance and reliability.
• Define and implement infrastructure provisioning patterns using Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules, ensuring reproducibility and auditability across environments.
• Design and operate secrets management solutions, including dynamic secret provisioning, rotation and fine grained access control integrated with cluster identity.
• Manage and maintain GPU driver configurations and accelerated compute node pools, ensuring compatibility and performance for AI and simulation workloads.
• Own cluster networking design including CNI selection, Istio service mesh integration, ingress strategy and cross cluster connectivity.
• Implement and maintain vCluster based multi tenancy to provide strong workload isolation within shared infrastructure.
• Develop lightweight Kubernetes Operators or controllers where automation of infrastructure lifecycle tasks requires it.
• Establish SLOs and reliability targets for core infrastructure components and lead the response to production incidents.
• Partner with security and platform teams to enforce infrastructure governance, network policies and compliance controls.
• Contribute to and uphold engineering standards across the platform organisation.

What You Bring to the Table

• Kubernetes depth – 5 or more years of professional experience operating Kubernetes in production. You have a thorough understanding of cluster architecture, the scheduler, networking, storage and the API lifecycle. Kubernetes certifications such as CKAD, CKA or CKS are highly desirable.
• Crossplane expertise – significant hands on experience designing and operating Crossplane compositions, providers and managed resources in production environments.
• Terraform proficiency – strong experience authoring, structuring and operating Terraform at scale, including state management, module design and CI integration.
• Multi cloud and on premises – practical experience operating infrastructure across more than one cloud provider and on premises environments, with an understanding of the differences in identity, networking and storage.
• Multi tenancy architecture – experience designing and implementing both single tenant and multi tenant Kubernetes architectures, with strong views on isolation, resource governance and operational overhead.
• Secrets management – experience with tools such as Vault, External Secrets Operator or cloud native secret stores, including dynamic provisioning and rotation.
• Networking – solid knowledge of Kubernetes networking, CNI plugins, Istio service mesh and ingress patterns. Experience with cross cluster or hybrid connectivity is valuable.
• vCluster and virtual clusters – experience using vCluster or similar tooling to provide lightweight, isolated Kubernetes environments within shared clusters.
• GPU and accelerated compute – familiarity with GPU driver management, device plugins and the operational considerations of running accelerated workloads in Kubernetes.
• Kubernetes Operators – at least lightweight experience writing or extending Kubernetes Operators or controllers, ideally in Golang or Python.
• Software engineering capability – you are comfortable writing code to automate and extend infrastructure. Python and Golang are the primary languages used across the platform. Exposure to functional programming languages such as Erlang, Elixir or OCaml is appreciated.
• Platform engineering mindset – you think about infrastructure as a product consumed by engineering teams and prioritise usability, documentation and long term maintainability.
• Distributed systems experience – a solid grounding in distributed systems concepts, including failure modes, consistency and the operational challenges of running systems at scale.

Ideally

• Experience with GitOps workflows using tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
• Contributions to open source infrastructure or Kubernetes ecosystem projects.
