Summary
The Software Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining software systems that support Shift4’s products. This role focuses on implementing reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions while collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers. The engineer contributes to multiple phases of the development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, and deployment, while continuously improving technical skills and contributing to engineering best practices.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to design, build, and enhance software solutions that deliver measurable customer and business impact.
- Develop and maintain internal applications through hands-on coding, testing, debugging, and deployment of maintainable and reusable software.
- Contribute to system design discussions and implement technical solutions aligned with established architectural standards.
- Work within an agile development process, participating in two-week sprints with the goal of delivering release-ready software each cycle.
- Integrate applications with backend services, APIs, and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Operate independently when required, exercising sound judgment in decision-making and ensuring proper documentation of technical designs and workflows.
- Write clean, well-documented, and testable code following team coding standards and best practices.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain quality and consistency across the codebase.
- Identify opportunities to improve application performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot issues, debug software defects, and support resolution of production incidents when needed.
- Stay up to date with modern development practices, frameworks, and technologies.
- Ensure compliance with software governance, security, and quality policies.
- Perform additional tasks within the department as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React Native, and related libraries (e.g., Redux, React Navigation).
- Experience integrating with backend systems (REST APIs or equivalent) and working with cloud services such as AWS or similar platforms.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management practices.
- Understanding of mobile performance considerations and debugging techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical technical solutions.
- Motivation to take on increasing responsibility and ownership within an agile development team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of modern web application development using TypeScript with frameworks such as React or Ember.
- Experience working with AWS-hosted backends and databases.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience working with native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) or Android (Kotlin/Java) codebases.
- Familiarity with mobile security, data encryption, and compliance practices.
- Experience with a distributed software system.
- Relevant professional certifications are advantageous but not required.

The salary range for this position is starting at 4000 Eur Gross. The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience.

Overview
With the growth of our Android app, being the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, we find the need for a Senior Android Engineer to help us support the new user base as well as work on new and exciting projects to push us forward.
This is a key role and ideal for someone who thinks strategically, enjoys fast-paced environments, passionate about making product decisions, and has experience building great user experiences that delight users.

What You’ll Do
- Owning major features and working closely with our design team - take ownership of features inside the app and become responsible of delivering high quality features
- Shape the future of our Android team
- Own, maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features
- Participate in discussions across different teams - Product, Design, Engineering
- Review pull requests, and support other teammates
- Handle critical issues or cope with unexpected challenges
- Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for the QA team
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Familiarity with Android components
- Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
- Product design intuition and user empathy
- Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
- Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing tests
- Self-drive to improve the app and codebase above and beyond what's outlined in the spec
- Rock solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit tests
- Excellent communication skills

About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced QA Automation Engineer (Mobile/Android) to take the lead in ensuring our global security products meet the highest bars of reliability. In this role, you won’t just run tests; you’ll architect and scale automation solutions for our VPN portfolio (HotspotShield, Betternet) and our flagship antivirus (UltraAV). We are agile, work quickly, and focus on outcomes. We trust our team to build the best solution to help us scale for the future.
Day to Day:
- Architect and evolve our Android automation framework (Espresso/Kakao-Cup) to support a growing portfolio of security products.
- Design sophisticated testing strategies for VPN-specific challenges, including network-dependent flows and testing under unstable or switching connection states.
- Work closely with developers and other QAs to troubleshoot and resolve issues, offering detailed bug reports.
- Uphold QA best practices and contribute to driving the QA strategy.
- Continuously explore new testing tools and methodologies to enhance the QA process.
What you bring to the table:
- At least 3 years of experience in automating UI tests for Android apps written in Kotlin
- Strong hands-on expertise with Espresso and Kakao-Cup, with the ability to test screens built in both Jetpack Compose and classic XML.
- Experience with Robolectric and Mockito for test infrastructure and mocking dependencies.
- You’re comfortable building and maintaining pipelines in CircleCI and using Bash/sh scripting for automation and result processing.
- Experience sharding and parallelizing tests using Flank, and configuring device matrices within Firebase Test Lab or similar emulators.
- An understanding of the specific challenges of testing VPN apps, such as network-dependent flows and handling connection-state flakiness.
- At least upper-intermediate level of spoken and written English
It would be great if you also had:
- Experience maintaining UI test suites across multiple apps in both mono- and multi-repo setups.
- High level of comfort with ADB, log analysis, and a working understanding of the Android build process via Gradle (Kotlin DSL).
- Experience testing A/B frameworks, including covering feature-flagged flows and variant-dependent UI.
- Familiarity with testing Google Play Billing integrations (subscriptions, purchase flows, and edge cases).

Overview
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Experiences Team. This team builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s product experience across platforms. It's a critical role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of product and infrastructure, thinks strategically, and is passionate about designing clear, reliable APIs and simple systems that directly enhance the user experience.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, find ways to reduce scope to get faster feedback from customers, navigate the integration/UX tradeoffs relevant to different product teams, and deliver solutions via our cross-platform SDK
- Optimize existing functionality to ship things like faster loading and more intelligent parsing by designing more efficient abstractions and improving our algorithms
- Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and jobs using Kotlin

Overview
With the growth of our Android app, being the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, we find the need for a Senior Android Engineer to help us support the new user base as well as work on new and exciting projects to push us forward.
This is a key role and ideal for someone who thinks strategically, enjoys fast-paced environments, passionate about making product decisions, and has experience building great user experiences that delight users.

What You’ll Do
- Owning major features and working closely with our design team - take ownership of features inside the app and become responsible of delivering high quality features
- Shape the future of our Android team
- Own, maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features
- Participate in discussions across different teams - Product, Design, Engineering
- Review pull requests, and support other teammates
- Handle critical issues or cope with unexpected challenges
- Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for the QA team
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Familiarity with Android components
- Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
- Product design intuition and user empathy
- Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
- Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing tests
- Self-drive to improve the app and codebase above and beyond what's outlined in the spec
- Rock solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit tests
- Excellent communication skills
- User oriented problem solving approach
- Driven with continuous feedback from leaders
