The Director, Development is responsible for leading and executing all project development efforts in their market from Greenfield to Notice to Proceed for construction.

You will oversee project execution from late term development through final completion and hand off to Portfolio Operations, ensuring contract compliance, budget adherence, schedule performance, scope accuracy, and stakeholder alignment. The position plays a critical role in driving a portfolio of project governance, identifying and mitigating risks, resolving escalated issues, and ensuring consistent execution practices across the national portfolio.

Please Note: Most of the Construction team is based in the Boise HQ, so we have a strong preference of having this person in Boise. However, we are open to considering remote arrangements for exceptionally qualified individuals. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Report directly to the VP of Construction on portfolio health and associated risks. Provide weekly reports sufficient to be shared with executive leadership.
• Lead and manage a team of owner’s project managers, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and performance oversight across multiple concurrent projects.
• Oversee the successful execution of EPC and subcontractor contracts, ensuring compliance with commercial terms, scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for solar project issues, facilitating resolution through collaboration with internal departments and external partners.
• Develop and implement solar project execution strategies that align with corporate objectives and drive consistency, efficiency, and risk mitigation.
• Monitor project performance metrics, budgets, and schedules, and provide executive-level reporting on regional portfolio health.
• Coordinate with development, engineering, supply chain, pre-construction and legal teams to ensure seamless project handoffs and execution readiness.
• Support change order management and claims resolution in collaboration with legal and commercial teams.
• Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including utilities, local authorities, and community representatives.
• Ensure adherence to corporate governance, safety, and environmental standards across all regional projects.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process gaps and implementing best practices in project delivery.
• Responsible for aspects of hiring, training, mentoring and developing employees, holding weekly project review meetings and team meetings.
• Creating standardization processes, work plans, and tools for successful project delivery.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, business, public administration, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience managing the construction of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
• Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, P6, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
• Skills/Attributes:
  • Proven experience assessing, understanding the potential impacts to the project, reporting project risks, and providing strategic recommendations to executive level leadership.
  • Deep understanding of contract estimates, change order negotiation, schedule and budget for utility-scale solar and storage projects, and has extensive experience leading the strategy around scheduling and budgeting inputs during execution.
  • Strategically makes contractual decisions associated with the EPC Agreement, and has a deep understanding of the innerworkings between project agreements.
  • Strong existing relationships with EPCs, subcontractors, Unions and other regional contractors.
  • Deep understanding of cost, schedule, and scope of the project and has the ability to see, understand, and communicate to project teams how company-level strategy impacts project-level decisions.
  • Knowledge of construction deliverables, including the ability to interpret requirements and support project teams in executing deliverables and compliance.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Engineer will provide performance analysis and design expertise on utility-scale solar and energy storage projects during the early-stage development and design phases. You will partner with internal and external contacts to be a subject matter expert on technical specifications for PV and energy storage projects.  

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Evaluate equipment performance, specifications, and roadmap by working with our internal Procurement team and equipment suppliers to drive technology evolution.
• Create photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage production estimates using commercial software programs, like PVsyst, or in-house models.  
• Coordinate Independent Engineer (IE) due diligence including contract management, reviewing IE reports, IE energy assessments, and providing feedback as needed.  
• Provide Owner Engineering review for projects in all stages of design.
• Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge on new technologies and energy assessment techniques for both PV, and energy storage. 
• Provide technical review and input for key contracts and agreements including Interconnection, Equipment Procurement, Power Purchase, EPC, and O&M.
• Create conceptual system design and site layouts for PV and energy storage.
• Communicate technical specifications and track scope of work for engineering design contracts, while also supporting technical review of contractor-supplied deliverables.
• Collaborate with individual department, as well as cross-functionally with other departments within the organization.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Development Director, Data Centers is responsible for leading the market positioning, commercial development, and strategic growth of the company’s data center business. This role identifies and drives new partnership opportunities, evaluates and prioritizes powered data center sites, structures commercial deals, and engages with industry leaders to expand the company’s presence in the responsible data center market. The Director works cross-functionally to convert strategic opportunities into viable, bankable, and scalable projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead the development and execution of the company’s data center growth strategy.
• Leverage Clenera’s development platform including but not limited to utility scale solar and storage assets to accelerate online timelines for large load customers.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with hyperscalers, colocation providers, and other large‑scale digital infrastructure stakeholders.
• Support evaluation and prioritization of prospective data center sites based on power availability, interconnection potential, land partnerships, permitting feasibility, cooling strategies, and market demand.
• Oversee preparation of customer-facing materials, including RFP responses, commercial proposals, and strategic presentations for datacenter opportunities.
• Lead cross-functional deal teams through origination, feasibility studies, commercial structuring, negotiations, and contract execution for data center-related projects.
• Collaborate with development, engineering, transmission & interconnection, and finance teams to define project concepts, cost structures, timelines, and economic value for datacenter customers.
• Monitor and analyze market trends in hyperscaler power needs, behind-the-meter and co-located generation structures, energy pricing, and responsible data center development (LEED, PUE, water use, etc.), to guide corporate strategy.
• Represent the company in data center industry networks, conferences, and customer engagements.
• Track the performance of the datacenter business pipeline, providing regular updates to executive leadership, and recommending strategic adjustments as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Computer Science, or other relevant field.
• Experience: 7+ years of experience in business/project development and 2+ years of experience within the data center industry.
• Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
