About This Role:

We’re hiring an Actuarial Data Scientist to lead loss cost modeling for Hippo's Homeowners program. This role will own the design, development, and deployment of predictive models for frequency and severity, ensuring strong alignment with pricing strategy and business objectives. You'll build and scale Python-and SQL-based tooling that embeds expected loss ratio and segmentation analytics into reusable, production-ready workflows. In addition to leading loss cost modeling, you'll have the opportunity to expand the team's modeling capabilities across the demand and aggregation models to inform broader pricing and business mix decisions. 

About You:

You are a hands-on leader with a strong background in loss modeling. You bring structure to ambiguity, enjoy building scalable work, and take pride in developing people on your team. You think critically about model maintenance cost and you balance scientific rigor with practical business impact. You communicate clearly, document thoroughly, and operate with a strong sense of ownership.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead a homeowners insurance modeling, setting clear priorities, technical standards, and best practices while fostering a culture of ownership, rigor, and continuous improvement 
• Own the design and annual build of our by-peril loss models
• Expand modeling capabilities across conversion, retention, and aggregation to inform pricing strategy, business mix, and portfolio performance 
• Implement and scale models within our Airflow-based Python modeling pipeline, ensuring robust testing, validation, reproducibility, and long-term maintainability
• Develop reusable analytical tooling and workflows that improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability across the actuarial team
• Partner cross-functionally with Insurance Product, Underwriting, and Engineering to translate complex modeling insights into clear business recommendations and ensure successful production deployment

Must Haves:

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, or another quantitative field
• 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or actuarial modeling within personal lines P&C insurance
• Strong experience with loss cost modeling; exposure to demand, underwriting, and/or claims modeling
• Knowledge of actuarial principles as they relate to insurance pricing
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with stakeholders at all levels

Nice to Haves:

• Actuarial credentials - ACAS/FCAS
• Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline
• Experience working in modern data platforms, including familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS) and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow)

The base pay range for this role is $145,000- $160,000 for our Texas (Austin and Dallas regions). The SF Bay Area (and New Jersey) base pay range for this role is $155,000- $180,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several job-related factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, experience, education/training, location, business needs and market demands.

AI Governance Team, Responsible AI/ML Data Scientist

We are seeking a Vice President, Responsible AI/ML Data Scientist on our AI Governance Team who combines technical expertise in Data Science and Machine Learning with a strong advisory lens to help drive trustworthy AI solution development across Accordion's practices. In this role, you will serve as an internal subject matter expert, embedding responsible AI principles and controls across the AI development lifecycle to drive validated, explainable, compliant, and auditable AI solutions. Drawing on your experience with AI policy, regulatory standards, and testing methodologies, you will translate governance requirements into actionable and testable playbooks that teams across the business can apply consistently. This position is critical to co-designing AI solutions with embedded Responsible AI practices aligned to Accordion's AI Governance principles. As Accordion scales AI capabilities across its practice areas, this role will provide the validation rigor and oversight needed to ensure we develop AI solutions our clients and firm can trust.

What You’ll Do:

Governance & Technical Standards

• Translate AI governance, regulatory, and compliance requirements into testable operational Responsible AI playbooks with quantifiable standards for transparency, accuracy, fairness, privacy, and accountability — tailored to Accordion's AI solutions and business model
• Develop frameworks and guidance supporting systematic evaluation, testing, and risk mitigation that enable auditability, lineage, and transparent decision records
• Build evaluation frameworks that guide data scientists and engineering teams in developing, testing, and monitoring AI systems requirements; define mitigation strategies, detection methodologies, and acceptability thresholds
• Develop and implement testing principles for bias detection, model robustness evaluation, privacy preservation, and AI/privacy regulation alignment across different AI architectures and data types

Testing & Validation

• Collaborate with data science and engineering teams across our AI solution practices to embed responsible AI controls throughout the development lifecycle
• Develop repeatable testing and validation playbooks and evaluation frameworks for use across practice areas
• Pressure test AI solutions for accuracy, reliability, and trustworthiness, including output anomaly detection, logging, and observability mechanisms

Cross-Functional Advisory

You Have:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in data and ML, including developing, deploying, and evaluating solutions using a range of skillsets (e.g., statistics, machine learning, NLP, data visualization)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
• Proven technical experience in regulated or complex industries with demonstrated collaboration across Legal/Risk/Compliance, Security, and AI/ML engineering teams
• Track record of operationalizing responsible AI through technical development frameworks, testing protocols, and quantitative evaluation that embed fairness, transparency, and accountability into production AI systems
• Strong programming proficiency in Python, R, or similar languages, with experience in ML frameworks and responsible AI tooling

AI Governance Team, AI Risk and Operations 

We are seeking a Vice President, AI Risk and Operations on our AI Governance Team who will play a critical role in maturing and scaling Accordion's enterprise-wide AI Governance risk and operations program. In this role, you will serve as an internal governance practitioner and cross-functional advisor, embedding AI governance policies, procedures, and controls across our operating model for internal AI solutions — with the expectation that this scope will evolve to include client-facing engagements over time. Drawing on your experience with AI policy, frameworks, and risk program design, you will translate complex governance requirements into actionable, scalable implementation systems. This position requires seamlessly bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI development and responsible governance, partnering with senior stakeholders across Practices, Technology, Legal, and Emerging Technology to enabling trusted use and development of AI.

What You’ll Do 

Governance & Frameworks 

• Enhance the enterprise AI Risk Management Framework, including AI use case and supply chain inventory management, use case risk classification taxonomies, and risk-tiering mechanisms aligned to internal standards and emerging regulatory expectations 
• Design and operationalize scalable, end-to-end governance processes across the AI lifecycle  
• Build and maintain AI governance playbooks, risk appetite frameworks, and responsible AI standards  
• Identify opportunities to strengthen controls and oversight through process automation, tooling improvements, and governance workflow optimization 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

• Partner with Legal, Technology, and Consulting Practice Groups to embed explainability, bias mitigation, and ethical AI principles directly into use case development and delivery workflows 
• Manage the firm's AI Governance obligations and processes end-to-end, including supporting AI and related vendor management supply chain   
• Coordinate with Legal teams to ensure AI systems meet applicable jurisdictional and regulatory requirements, including proactive engagement on evolving global AI legislation 
• Facilitate stakeholder working groups, cross-functional governance forums, and executive communications on AI risk priorities, testing outcomes, and documentation requirements 
• Maintain the internal AI risk register and escalate issues through appropriate governance channels 
• Liaise with Technology and Practices to ensure data lineage and quality standards are met for AI solutions 

Monitoring & Oversight 

• Establish, track, and report on key risk indicators (KRIs) for AI systems in partnership with the Responsible AI Data Scientist and AI Governance Lead, across internal and client-facing AI solutions and products 
• Monitor alignment with global AI regulatory frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF) and support responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, or reviews 
• Evaluate risks associated with third-party and vendor AI solutions across the full sourcing lifecycle — including procurement, onboarding, integration, and ongoing performance oversight — and identify operational guardrails and controls 
• Assess design and operating effectiveness of AI controls against internal policy and external standards, especially for AI, privacy, and industry regulations, under Legal's guidance 
• Produce high-quality audit findings reports with clear recommendations for remediation and monitor implementation of agreed action plans 
• Stay current on AI regulation, industry standards, and emerging best practices 

Internal Enablement (Evolving) 

• Support the development of AI Governance updates, training/awareness programs, and culture-building initiatives to embed responsible AI practices across the organization 
• Contribute to Accordion's Trustworthy AI methodology and internal IP development 
• Over time, support client-facing AI governance assessments, risk remediation roadmaps, and responsible AI frameworks as the program matures and scope expands  

You Have 

• Bachelors degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field  
• 7+ years’ experience in Risk Operations, Privacy Programs, or PMO/IMO, with at least 3 years directly focused on AI governance or oversight - preferably within professional services, consulting, or PE-backed environments. 
• Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-jurisdictional integrations and/or global expansion programs, with a track record of building and running structured governance. 
• Strong knowledge of AI and privacy regulations and standards — including EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, GDPR, CCPA, and ISO 42001 — and the ability to translate regulatory mandates into operational controls 
• Strong grasp of AI/ML technical risks (e.g., bias, model drift, robustness) and associated controls 
• Strong familiarity with regulatory and operational considerations relevant to cross-border professional services (e.g., data/privacy, employment, tax, licensing), and the ability to operationalize them into business processes.

Working closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Clinical Operations, and Medical Science, you will design and execute analyses that demonstrate the value of Target’s data, support customers across life sciences, regulatory, and academic settings, and build scalable, standardized analytic approaches for real-world evidence generation.

What You’ll Do

1. Data Ownership and Quality 

• You will establish Target’s data as a trusted, validated scientific asset.
• Ensure Target’s data are accurate, complete, and fit for regulatory and scientific use by building systems and practices that establish trust in data integrity and readiness for analysis.
• Develop deep expertise in Target’s data, understanding its structure, provenance, strengths, and limitations.
• Design and implement validation frameworks, data quality checks, and “fitness-for-use” assessments.
• Create and maintain data dictionaries and documentation that promote transparency and reproducibility.

2. Analytical excellence 

• You will apply advanced analytic methods and scientific rigor to generate reliable, reproducible, and regulatory-grade real-world evidence from Target’s data assets.
  • Support the design and execution of retrospective and prospective studies using Target’s data assets.
  • Develop statistical analysis plans and analytic code for descriptive, comparative, and predictive analyses.
  • Design and implement scalable, reusable analytic frameworks and modular code structures that support consistent execution across therapeutic areas and data products.
  • Apply best practices in methodology, version control, code review, and documentation to ensure reproducibility.
  • Translate complex results into clear visualizations and insights for scientific, regulatory, and client audiences.
  • Contribute to publications, abstracts, and collaborations that advance Target’s scientific reputation and influence.

3. Cross functional partnership

• You will work cross-functionally to connect data, science, and strategy, ensuring Target’s evidence generation aligns with customer needs and business goals.
• Partner closely with Commercial, Medical Science, Product, Data Insights, Engineering, and Clinical Operations teams to align on data strategy and analytic priorities.
• Serve as the internal “voice of the customer,” anticipating how clients, regulators, and researchers will use Target’s data.
• Participate in client and partner meetings to demonstrate the validity and value of Target’s data products.
• Leverage your deep knowledge of Target’s data assets to guide internal teams and external partners, anticipating analytical and operational challenges and helping to shape data use strategies.
• Translate analytic findings and data characteristics into clear, client-facing materials that demonstrate Target’s data quality, representativeness, and scientific utility.

What You’ll Bring

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in biostatistics, epidemiology, health economics, bioinformatics, data science, or a related quantitative field. 
• 5-10+ years of experience working with real-world data (e.g., EMR, claims, registry, or clinical trial data).
• Strong programming expertise in R, and experience with reproducible analytic frameworks.
• Proven expertise in data quality assessment, validation, and curation workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain reproducible coding practices and scalable analytic processes that enable efficiency, transparency, and consistency across studies.
• Strong communication, presentation and collaboration skills with cross-functional technical and scientific teams.
• Demonstrated ability to translate data insights into actionable scientific or business recommendations.
