Job Overview:

We're looking for a strong Senior Full-stack PHP Software Engineer to join our team. You'll primarily extend and enhance both the backend services and frontend interfaces that power our funnel and onboarding builder—work that directly impacts how thousands of customers create and manage their checkout experiences.

You'll be working in a mix of modern (object-oriented PHP, Laravel/Symfony, React) and legacy code, shipping features that matter while helping us incrementally modernize the stack. 

You'll work alongside a team of skilled engineers who care about clean code, pragmatism, and shipping reliable, usable systems.

You'll have real impact on a system serving 65,000+ businesses, with the autonomy to incrementally modernize it.

The Team & Codebase

Editor 2.0 team is focused on our funnel and onboarding builder - a visual editor customers use to create their checkout experiences. It's a complex UI with real-time preview, component management, and integrations with the rest of the platform.

The stack:

• PHP (Laravel/Symfony, OOP)
• React components for editor UI
• MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ
• REST APIs, Composer, PHPUnit, Docker, CI/CD pipelines
• Deployments multiple times per week
• We use PHPStan, PSR standards, and structured code reviews to maintain quality.

The environment:

• Small, autonomous team (4–5 engineers)
• Real ownership of work – not just executing tickets
• Direct collaboration with product and design
• Thorough but constructive code reviews
• Remote-first, async-friendly culture

Key Responsibilities:

• Week to week:
  • Extend backend APIs, business logic, and database queries in PHP
  • Build and enhance UI components using React and modern JS
  • Ship features end-to-end: from requirements to production deployment
  • Debug and fix issues in both legacy and modern code
  • Write automated tests for backend and frontend flows
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Over time:
  • Take ownership of specific backend services, API endpoints, or frontend modules
  • Help migrate legacy PHP/jQuery code to modern full-stack patterns
  • Improve performance, reliability, and scalability across the stack
  • Mentor other engineers through pairing and feedback

Required Skills:

• Technical:
  • 5+ years of professional experience building and maintaining web applications at scale
  • Strong PHP fundamentals: OOP, MVC, Laravel/Symfony or similar frameworks
  • Experience with full-stack development (PHP backend + JS frontend)
  • Comfortable navigating legacy PHP codebases and modernizing them
  • Experience with REST APIs, relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and caching systems (Redis, Memcached)
  • Can write automated tests (PHPUnit, Jest, or similar)
  • Understanding of frontend basics: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Familiarity with deployment pipelines, Git, and CI/CD
  • Experience of using AI Agents and implementing and building AI tools and Agents
• Approach:
  • You default to shipping incremental improvements over big rewrites
  • You ask good questions when requirements are unclear
  • You balance code quality with business needs
  • You're comfortable working in codebases that aren't perfect
  • You can explain technical tradeoffs to non-engineers

Nice to Haves:

• Experience building SaaS or e-commerce platforms
• Migrating legacy PHP apps to modern frameworks
• Experience with React or other modern frontend frameworks
• Familiarity with microservices, modular architectures, or API-first designs
• Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP)

• Ship at least one meaningful full-stack improvement
• Understand key backend services and frontend flows
• Comfortable navigating legacy and modern code

• Independently own and ship medium-sized features across the stack
• Provide helpful code reviews to the team
• Identify and propose improvements to full-stack workflows or code

First 90 days:

• Have deep context in 1-2 areas and a roadmap for improvements you'd like to drive.
• Lead a refactor or performance/quality improvement initiative
• Measurably improve performance, reliability, or test coverage in your areas

The Team: Forward Deployed Engineering – Delivery

Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) sit at the intersection of customers, cloud platforms, and DoiT Cloud Intelligence™. In the Delivery capacity, FDEs are embedded technical partners for existing customers, focused on:

• Making DCI trusted and indispensable in day-to-day cloud operations
• Removing technical barriers to adoption across cost, reliability, security, and performance
• Turning one-off solutions into reusable patterns ("Gravel Roads") that improve both customer outcomes and the product
• FDEs operate as part of integrated account teams or as pulled FDEs, working closely with Customer Success Managers (CSMs), Account Managers (AMs), Technical Account Managers (TAMs), other FDEs, and Product Support Specialists (PSS) to deliver impactful outcomes across customer segments and tiers.

The Opportunity
Hire, onboard and manage a team of Senior Cloud Architects specializing in Kubernetes and container orchestration, data and analytics, machine learning, cost optimization and empower them to become the best version of themselves. Enable your team to guide customers on how to configure and deploy their products or services on Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud and act as an escalation point and provide technical support to customers on innovative/complex cloud topics.

Responsibilities

Customer-Facing Delivery

• Build, lead, and manage a strong team of Cloud Architects/FDEs that help customers design, deploy, and optimize production-grade cloud workloads on AWS, Google Cloud, and/or Azure.
• Ensure your team serves as the primary technical delivery partner for customers, with a focus on CloudOps/FinOps, reliability, security, and performance.
• Act as an escalation point for complex cloud topics and ensure high-quality, well-explained resolutions.
• Drive your team to plan and deliver structured engagements such as cost optimization workshops, architecture deep dives, security/reliability reviews, and product adoption sessions.

Proactive Engagement & Account Team Alignment

• Shift your team's model from reactive to proactive
•  by driving signal-based outreach (usage, health, roadmap gaps, known risks).
• Embed FDEs into account teams and ensure they participate in defined account activities -  TKOs, quarterly reviews, objective setting, and customer syncs.
• Coordinate with TPOs, CSMs, AMs, TAMs, and other FDEs to deliver measurable impact across customer segments.

DCI Product Expertise & Adoption

• Coach your team to become experts in DCI - Cloud Analytics, Insights, Cloud Composer, CloudFlow, DataHub, and Enterprise Platforms such as PerfectScale and SELECT and use these tools hands-on with customers.
• Drive your team to embed DCI into customers' FinOps, observability, CI/CD, and governance workflows.

Paving "Gravel Roads" & Product Feedback

• Foster a builder culture: expect every FDE to turn one-off customer solutions into reusable patterns - playbooks, Terraform modules, CloudFlow templates, Composer Recipes, and internal docs or build products alongside our R&D team.
• Ensure your team provides structured feedback to Product and Engineering on product gaps, friction points, automation and improvement opportunities.
• Support the FDE model by enabling FDEs to partner deeply with R&D and product stakeholders

People Leadership & Career Development

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Mentor and coach FDEs, providing regular feedback and performance evaluations to drive career development and growth.
• Drive team engagement, define clear role expectations, and align individual growth plans with the FDE career ladder.
• Lead the OKR process for the team, including setting, tracking, and ensuring alignment with broader company objectives.

Qualifications

• 10+ year of experience architecting, developing, and troubleshooting internet-scale, production-grade distributed systems
• 5+ year of experience in cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services and/or Google Cloud with the focus on selecting appropriate tools to tackle the business problem at the right scale
• Proven people leadership experience
• Experience with container technologies, e.g. Kubernetes
• Experience with networking, e.g. TCP/IP, routing, network topologies, and VPN
• Experience with Linux operating systems administration and internals such as filesystems, system calls.
• Great verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills in English

Bonus Points

• AWS Certified Professional Solution Architect
• Some experience in software development in one or more languages such as Java, Python, PHP, Go, or Rust; as well as shell scripting
