CMT is looking for a creative, collaborative, and highly motivated Machine Learning Intern to help develop applied machine learning capabilities using real-world mobility and behavioral data. This internship is ideal for someone who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, building practical ML workflows, working with messy real-world datasets, and translating technical findings into clear recommendations.

The intern will work on a 12-week applied ML project involving data exploration, labeling strategy, feature engineering, model development, evaluation, and stakeholder-facing analysis. The ideal candidate has strong Python skills, a solid foundation in machine learning, strong initiative, and the ability to make progress in open-ended problem spaces.

Responsibilities:

• Explore real-world mobility datasets and identify useful behavioral, temporal, contextual, and aggregate patterns
• Help define practical data labeling guidelines, quality criteria, and edge-case handling rules
• Build and validate datasets for supervised machine learning experiments
• Develop baseline and improved ML models using Python and standard data science workflows

Qualifications:

Job Summary  

Reporting to a Team Lead in the frameworks team you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, optimising, maintaining and supporting the software required to ensure the machine learning accelerators that Graphcore develop enjoy first-class support in state-of-the-art machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and Triton (note: “Triton” here refers to the Triton language/compiler and not the inference framework).  

This role sees you joining our Triton team, where you will be part of a SCRUM team working on delivering new features, optimise performance, reviewing code changes, writing technical documentation, working with upstream communities, maintaining the code base and supporting users.  

In this role you will closely collaborate with other engineers, both within the Triton team as well as other engineering teams. You help the team coordinate and deliver complex, open-ended technical tasks. You are pro-active and an excellent communicator. As a Senior or Principal Machine Learning Scientist, you will play a prominent role in developing generative AI/ML models for multi-modal, multiscale biology from virtual cells to agentic target assessment.  We are looking for a hands-on, creative, and collaborative individual to join our multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers focused on transforming how we treat aging and disease. Responsibilities

• Pioneer novel machine learning methodologies and statistical frameworks (e.g., generative models, causal inference, diffusion models, and advanced transformer architectures) to address fundamental challenges in cell health and rejuvenation
• Contribute to setting the long-term technical vision and research strategy for a core domain (e.g., multi-modal data fusion, perturbation modeling) within the Institute of Computation

What You Will Contribute To Altos

As a Senior or Principal Machine Learning Scientist, you will play a prominent role in developing generative AI/ML models for multi-modal, multiscale biology from virtual cells to agentic target assessment.  We are looking for a hands-on, creative, and collaborative individual to join our multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers focused on transforming how we treat aging and disease. Responsibilities

• Pioneer novel machine learning methodologies and statistical frameworks (e.g., generative models, causal inference, diffusion models, and advanced transformer architectures) to address fundamental challenges in cell health and rejuvenation
• Contribute to setting the long-term technical vision and research strategy for a core domain (e.g., multi-modal data fusion, perturbation modeling) within the Institute of Computation
• Translate your deep understanding of the mathematical and theoretical underpinnings of cutting-edge AI research into high-impact applications
• Design, implement, and optimize large-scale machine learning systems using modern frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, JAX) and  agile practices

Minimum Qualifications

• 6+ years of of relevant post-PhD work experience in either an academic or industry setting
• Proven experience developing and applying complex machine learning models, preferably with a significant portion of that time spent in a fast-paced industry or translational research environment.
• A strong track record of leading and publishing innovative, peer-reviewed research in top-tier ML conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) or high-impact scientific journals.
• Excellent scientific communication skills: verbally and in writing; with computational and non-computational audiences, in informal 1-1 settings, team meetings, and formal seminars

In this role, you will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary teams enabling Altos to achieve its mission. You will partner and collaborate with other Machine Learning Scientists and Engineers, as well as other computational scientists and biologists, across the Institute of Computation to contribute to the Altos research and translation ecosystem.
