About the Team
As part of our team, you'll leverage your diverse skills to support both Software Engineers and QA Engineers, tackling the daily challenges of their roles. Your specialist knowledge, combined with the use of AI technologies, will be invaluable in suggesting improvements to enhance quality and streamline workflows, ensuring we continue to exceed our customers' expectations.
What you'll be doing
- Contribute to tools and technology
- Design, develop, and maintain AI-driven automation systems
- Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to understand and deliver AI-based solutions.
- Build new tools and technology
- Debug failing tests to improve the quality of automated test tools and frameworks
- Conduct code reviews for improve code quality and optimization
- Promote coding conventions and standards for code re-usability and cleanliness
- Assist in monitoring and maintenance of critical systems
We're excited if you have
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with automation systems
- 3+ years of Python programming experience
- 2+ years of experience developing test plans and test cases
- Ability to write simple Python scripts to preprocess data or interact with ML APIs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with remote teams
- Some knowledge of continuous integration tools (Jenkins/Hudson, TeamCity, Maven, Gradle)
- Hands on experience and proficiency in Linux/Unix systems
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly

Roku’s embedded software automation and tools team has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in building automation framework and tools for embedded devices. The role involves developing and maintaining software and tools that help various internal teams to test and manage Roku’s products. Working closely with internal stakeholders to enhance existing automation toolset with new capabilities and advanced features that empower all engineering and accelerate validation efforts for SW releases.

You will work cross-functionally with various engineering teams, using your automation tooling expertise to help both firmware developers and QA to create and deliver the highest quality products that provide valuable end-user feedback to improve customer experience. This position requires Python expertise with strong experience using web frameworks, excellent debugging, written, and organizational skills. You will be joining a talented, high-performance team of developers with a history of delivery. We are looking for someone who can help us maintain this pace and continue delivering high quality as we grow.
We are looking for a keen problem solver and a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and collaborative skills who is eager to learn and grow in the consumer electronics space. As an engineer on the team, you will require the skills and confidence to undertake the challenges of working in a fast-paced environment, frequently be taken out of your comfort zone, and relish getting your hands dirty working with user-facing products.
What you will be doing:
- Develop and release new E2E automation support and tools
- Debug issues to improve the quality of automated test tools and frameworks
- Conduct code reviews to improve code quality and optimization

- Document feature guides, identify and formulate user requirements, and define product behavior

- 10+ years of hands-on experience with automation systems
- 10+ years of programming experience, preferably with Python
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
- Proficient in Linux, Python-based test automation frameworks, and tools using REST APIs
- Hands-on experience in development/integration of E2E test automation frameworks and tools for embedded software devices
- Proficient use of AI tools and technologies with a proven track record as a promoter and advocate for AI adoption in software development and testing automation.
- Agentic workflow familiarity: Working knowledge of multi-step AI orchestration frameworks and the practical use of AI agents to support and streamline day-to-day development workflows.
- Experienced in developing and maintaining web-based tools using JavaScript and React/Next.js
- Experience with DevOps and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Docker, and Kubernetes)
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline development and deployment via AWS or GCP cloud technologies
- Experience with unit testing frameworks – pytest/pyunit and Cypress for UI testing
- Experience developing web applications using Flask, FastAPI, Django, and Nginx
- Knowledge in using AI for increasing test automation coverage and productivity
- Experience with retail Consumer Electronic (CE) devices, ideally in the Over The Top (OTT) streaming domain
- Expert problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills

About the Team
We’re a distributed team working across multiple continents and time zones, focused on building high-quality software releases for Roku’s latest player devices. We move fast, adapt quickly, and care deeply about making products that are easy—and joyful—for customers to use. Interns are treated as real contributors: you’ll work with engineers, QA, product managers, and other partners, and you’ll get support through mentoring, feedback, and structured onboarding.
About the role
This internship is a great fit for a student going into their Placement Year who’s interested in embedded software development and software quality. You’ll help improve product quality and developer efficiency by contributing to automatable tests, debugging issues, and improving testing workflows for C/C++ applications running on embedded/Linux-based systems.
We offer a paid 12 month internship, starting in September 2026.
What you'll be doing
With guidance from the team, you will:
- Develop and maintain automated tests for applications written in C/C++
- Write scripts/tools (Python and/or Bash) to support test automation and analysis
- Learn how to use logs, KPIs, and failure analysis to help reproduce, isolate, and understand issues
- Review and improve existing test cases and automation code with support from mentors
- Document test procedures, results, and learnings clearly and concisely
- Collaborate with remote team members across time zones and communicate progress effectively
We're excited if you have:
- Current enrolment in a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Available for a 12 month period starting in September 2026
- Some experience programming in C and/or C++ (coursework, projects, labs, or internships)
- Familiarity with Linux fundamentals and basic command-line tools
- Basic scripting skills in Python and/or Bash/Shell
- Interest in debugging and problem-solving (e.g., reading logs, reproducing issues, step-by-step investigation)
- Comfort working collaboratively and communicating clearly in a distributed environment
- A self-driven mindset and willingness to learn quickly in a fast-paced team
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to embedded Linux development (e.g., Raspberry Pi, development boards, or coursework)

About the Team

We are seeking an experienced and versatile Software Development Engineer in Test to own quality of ad features on Roku Platform. You will be responsible for end-to-end execution of ad product which includes cross-team collaboration for feature testing, developing test plans, coordinate testing with manual QA, create an automation strategy, deployment of library/feature and more. You should be able to represent automation and QA concerns in meetings with cross-functional, project team members and provide valuable end-user feedback to improve the customer experience. This position requires a solid understanding of software development life-cycle experience with a variety of testing techniques, strong debugging, written and organizational skills, and automation experience.

- Own and execute the feature testing, create test plan documentation, collaborate with developers, product lead and other manual QA

About the Role
This is a great role for a Software Engineer, Python / SDET , with a background in developing automated tools and tests on resource constrained hardware platforms. These tools and tests will be used daily to further improve our products and help deliver the highest quality software releases that will be deployed to devices in the field. In this role, you will develop tools that test, monitor, and analyse metrics of millions of players and TV products.
Roku is seeking a versatile Software Engineer, to build out fully automated test suites as well as performance monitoring tools. You will build automation that validates both Roku OS system software and the largest, top‑tier streaming applications that run across Roku TVs and Players, and all the required infrastructure surrounding it. This includes extending existing tests and building new ones to reliably measure memory usage, playback performance, conformance to specifications and so on. You will be also responsible for building and maintaining a small multi-platform device farm that can be used by test and firmware engineers to build and run tests.
You will work cross-functionally with various engineering teams. The role requires an energetic and self-motivated individual with excellent communication, organisation, and technical skills.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Design, implement, and maintain robust test infrastructure and automation for a complex ML software stack.
- Architect and evolve test frameworks and tooling with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and developer experience.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines targeting simulators, emulators (e.g. QEMU), and physical hardware.
- Create representative ML workloads and gain insights from their execution. (Numerical accuracy, performance analysis and benchmarking).
- Work closely with all Software development teams, supporting a culture of quality, security and maintainability.
- Review code and designs, setting a high bar for software engineering best practices.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, helping raise the overall technical capability of the team.

Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Experience in production-quality software engineering roles.
- Strong software design and architecture skills, with experience working on large or complex systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python, including experience building and maintaining production codebases.
- Solid experience with CI/CD systems and automated testing (preferably GitHub-based workflows).
- Experience working in Linux environments.
- Familiarity with C or C++, with the ability to read, debug, and reason about low-level code when needed.

The ideal candidate is an experienced ML engineer who understands how contemporary models are trained and executed, and who has hands-on experience debugging functional and performance issues in ML systems. This person will be comfortable working with industry-standard frameworks and state-of-the-art models, bringing them up on internal infrastructure, and collaborating closely with software and hardware teams in a technically demanding environment spanning ML frameworks, infrastructure, and AI accelerator hardware.
The Team
The ML QA team is composed of highly skilled software engineers with a strong focus on automation, software quality, and data-driven validation. The team works closely with industry-standard machine learning frameworks and models, contributing to upstream open-source projects and collaborating across the wider software organization.
Operating in a fast-paced environment, the team plays a critical role in ensuring reliability, performance, and maintainability across the ML software stack, helping to deliver robust and high-quality products to customers.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Benchmark ML models and frameworks, analysing results to identify regressions, performance bottlenecks, and correctness issues.
• Work hands-on with industry-standard ML frameworks to validate functionality and performance across different execution environments.
• Build and maintain automated testing and benchmarking pipelines targeting simulators, emulators, and physical hardware.
• Collaborate closely with software teams to ensure adequate test coverage for new and existing features.
• Develop tooling and scripts (primarily in Python) to support testing, benchmarking, and functional reporting.
• Take ownership over aspects of our testing and infrastructure, owning the roadmap and driving innovation independently.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
• Experience working in Machine Learning or ML-adjacent engineering roles.
• Strong foundation in core AI and ML concepts (e.g. neural networks, training vs inference, numerical precision, performance trade-offs).
• Hands-on experience with one or more major ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar.
• Strong proficiency in Python for ML workflows, experimentation, and automation.
• Experience designing, running, and analysing ML benchmarks or experiments.
• Experience working in Linux environments.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to reason about model behaviour and system performance.
• Bachelor/Master's/PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Maths, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related field.
Desirable
• Experience with MLOps pipelines, model deployment, or production ML systems.
• Familiarity with performance analysis, profiling tools, or numerical accuracy validation.
• Exposure to distributed training or inference systems.
• Experience with hardware-accelerated ML, compilers, or system-level performance considerations.
• Familiarity with CI/CD systems used for ML workflows.

What You'll Be Building
- Build Kubernetes-based infrastructure supporting scientific services, ML pipelines, and platform workloads; including production hardening, RBAC, network policies, and Pod Security Standards
- CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions/GitLab CI implementing best practices: build attestations, SBOM generation, dependency scanning, and container image hardening
- Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform and Helm; policy-as-code guardrails (OPA/Kyverno/Checkov) with drift detection
- AWS cloud infrastructure: EKS clusters, IAM least privilege, VPC/PrivateLink networking, KMS/Secrets Manager, ECR, S3, and centralized logging/monitoring
