Job Summary  

Reporting to a Team Lead in the frameworks team you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, optimising, maintaining and supporting the software required to ensure the machine learning accelerators that Graphcore develop enjoy first-class support in state-of-the-art machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and Triton (note: “Triton” here refers to the Triton language/compiler and not the inference framework).

The Role

This is a non-traditional engineering leadership role. Your Impact at LILA

As a Principal Security Engineer focused on AI Security, you will define and drive the technical strategy for securing how AI is used across Lila's enterprise. CMT is looking for a Principal Backend Software Engineer to produce scalable software solutions to reliably collect and manage data from sensors on smartphones and connected devices in vehicles. In this role, you will design architecture and backend infrastructure, and build features and applications that meet the needs of our customers. You will design and scale high-throughput data pipelines, REST APIs, and real-time event processing systems that handle millions of device connections daily. You will partner with ML and Data Science teams to build the compute and data infrastructure that supports model training, feature engineering, and large-scale inference — including GPU-accelerated workloads. You will drive infrastructure-as-code practices, CI/CD reliability, and system observability to ensure our platform remains performant and resilient as we grow. As a technical leader, you will mentor engineers, set technical direction, and collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to deliver solutions that keep tens of millions of drivers safe.

• Participate throughout the planning process, collaborating with product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to balance technical feasibility with customer needs

• Experience building and operating data pipelines (ETL/ELT) at scale, and designing the data infrastructure that ML/Data Science teams rely on for feature engineering, model training, and production inference 
• Hands-on experience designing and operating high-throughput backend systems handling millions of API requests and device connections daily, including real-time data ingestion and event-driven architectures (message queues, streaming platforms) 
• Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), container orchestration (AWS ECS or Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code using Terraform for managing cloud environments at scale

THE ROLE

As a Principal Backend Engineer, you’ll be a technical leader responsible for architecting, building, and scaling the core backend systems that power our platform. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own Core Backend Systems – Design, build, and maintain scalable services, APIs, and platform infrastructure. Ensure reliability, observability, and maintainability.

• Lead Third-Party Integrations – Build and maintain integrations with external vendors, ensuring reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS 

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience.

• Strong expertise in backend languages and frameworks (Node.js/TypeScript, Go, Python, or similar).
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.

About the Role

• Serve as the lead electrical engineer responsible for the design, development, and integration of electronics for Nanopath’s diagnostic platform
• Own system-level electrical architecture, including PCB design, power management, signal integrity, and integration with embedded software and mechanical subsystems
• Design and develop circuits supporting motion control, fluid actuation, thermal management, and optical detection systems
• Lead bring-up, debugging, and validation of prototypes and production hardware

Technical Qualifications
