Vast is looking for a Tooling and Fixture Specialist reporting to the Production Manager, Structures to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of human-rated space stations.
This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
- Design, fabricate, and modify tools, fixtures, jigs, and other manufacturing aids to support a variety of special projects across mechanical assembly and structural integration
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Manufacturing and cross-functional engineering teams to understand build requirements and translate them into practical tooling solutions
- Support prototype and R&D builds from early concept through completion, adapting tooling approaches as designs evolve
- Operate manual and CNC machine tools including mills, lathes, grinders, and other shop equipment with a high degree of accuracy and craftsmanship
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, CAD models, and technical specifications to produce tooling that meets tight tolerances
- Troubleshoot tooling and fixturing issues on the fly and propose effective, timely solutions
- Maintain, repair, and organize tooling inventory and shop equipment
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, tooling efficiency, and build quality
- Work safely and maintain a clean, organized work environment in accordance with company safety standards
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Toolmaker, Machinist, and Welder or similar hands-on fabrication role
- Background in an R&D, prototype, or low-volume production environment, you are comfortable working with incomplete information and evolving requirements
- Strong proficiency with manual and/or CNC machining equipment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models
- High mechanical aptitude and a meticulous eye for quality and precision
- Self-starter mentality, able to take on loosely defined tasks and drive them to completion with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across engineering and manufacturing team
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries
- Familiarity with a broad range of materials including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and composites
- Exposure to assembly tooling for large-scale or complex structural builds
- Experience with CAM software and/or basic CAD modeling (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar)
- Understanding of manufacturing quality systems and documentation practice
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
- Comfortable working in and around large-scale hardware and manufacturing equipment

- Tooling and Fixture Specialist II: $42 - $59

ABOUT THE TEAM
Anduril’s Maritime Manufacturing Technology Team is responsible for rapidly developing and implementing manufacturing technologies, processes, and materials for cutting-edge defense hardware. The team is developing deployable static and moving surfaces, undersea and sea to air vehicles, and scaling these products in our new manufacturing facilities.
We are seeking an experienced Machinist to join the team, working in a cutting-edge production environment to advance the state-of-the-possible in maritime manufacturing. You will play a key role in delivering our products to our customers by working hands-on with our engineering team on a multi-disciplinary workflow. This role will include fabricating high-quality parts in a cutting-edge machine shop as well as building assemblies to support the production floor.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models.
- Set-up/operate CNC multi-axis cutting machines (3/4/5 axis mills, lathes, and mill-turns).
- Design/spec out and implement various work holding and fixture methods.
- Troubleshoot issues and make adjustments during the manufacturing process.
- Perform quality control both during and at completion of the manufacturing process.
- Help lead the organization, machine maintenance and cleanliness of the work area.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years experience as a machinist/operator.
- Experience with CAD software like Siemens NX (Unigraphics)
- Experience with 3/4/5 axis milling machines and lathes.
- Experience with Fanuc and Siemens controls
- High level of familiarity with various alloys, metals, plastics, etc.
- High level of tooling and fixture experience.
- Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Proficient in using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, protractors, tape measures).
- Can own the completion of an assigned manufacturing project from start to finish.
- Ability to flex between R&D fabrication and production tasks.
- Able and willing to jump in on production assembly integration tasks as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience integrating mechanical assemblies.
- Experience working with exotic materials like Inconel, Monel, Titanium, and HY-80).
- General metal fabrication experience (cutting, forming, welding).
- Forklift and/or overhead crane certification or ability to obtain.
- CMM/measurement arm experience (Hexagon, Faro).
- Experience using CAM software.
- Prior work with architecture and infrastructure engineering partners and/or general contractors to build, improve or modify machining systems
- Hobbyist fabricator, welder, builder.

Vast is looking for a Senior Welder - 2nd Shift reporting to the Shop Floor Supervisor - 2nd Shift, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.
This will be a full-time, non-exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
2nd Shift Hours: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Responsibilities:
- Weld the Haven Structure for Human spaceflight
- Operate mechanized and robotic welding equipment
- Ability to quickly fabricate, weld tooling to support Haven.
- Inspect fabricated parts for geometry acceptance and weld conformance
- Fit, form parts, and clean parts as required and setup welding equipment in preparation for welding
- Perform Class A quality Aluminum weld
- Diagnose weld defects and suggest corrective actions, both in repair and process optimization
- Work with Engineering to improve tools and problem solve
- Material handling of raw goods and finished weldments
- Experience with a wide variety of metal fabrication equipment such as vertical bandsaw, Sanding equipment, Capability to efficiently set up jig tables
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with Class A TIG
- 5+ years of experience with fabrication, and forming experience
- Experience reading engineering blueprints
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
- Familiar working with x-ray technicians and other NDT techniques
- Automated/robotic welding experience Preferred VPPAW
- Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Self-starter, highly motivated working in a fast-paced department
- 5+ or more years with Class A aerospace welding
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted

A Welder is responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape. Their duties include reviewing blueprints, cutting metal into the appropriate shape, and smoothing molten metal to remove creases.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
- Prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and timecards in an accurate and timely manner.
- Reading and understanding blueprints prior to starting a project.
- Sourcing the materials to be used in the project.
- Measuring and cutting materials to specifications.
- Welding materials using the correct materials to join the metals together.
- Checking finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints.
- Perform assigned tasks in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
- Follow manufacturer and company service guidelines and procedures to ensure safe quality work and to preserve and document component failure information for accurate failure analysis.
- Maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
- Math and Measurement Skills: Tape measure, Scale, Calipers, Fillet weld gauge.
- Communicate with equipment manager and field managers in a manner which promotes a positive relationship.
- Work overtime as needed and within labor law guidelines.
- Operate heavy power-driven equipment.
- Ability to obtain forklift and boom lift certification.

Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Five (5) or more years of welding experience.
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive on behalf of company business.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred knowledge on the following topics:
- Operational characteristics of a variety of heavy, power-driven equipment.
- Maintenance requirements of heavy, power-driven equipment.
- Methods and materials used in general construction and maintenance work.
- Principles and techniques of field maintenance activities.
- Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in heavy equipment operation.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Welding Machine set-up: Mig/Tig welding and hard facing of carbon; low alloy steels using solid and flux-cored wire; finishing of welds (chipping, grinding, sanding).
- Fabricating carbon, stainless and low alloy steels; Blueprint Reading and Weld Symbols (AWS and ISO); Weld joint prep; Hand plasma and oxy/fuel torches.
- The following safety training is preferred, but not mandatory. Company will provide additional training, as necessary.
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER training.
- Competent Person Safety Training
- 8-Hour Supervisory Training
- 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
- First Aid and CPR
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
